So Bahrain beat Jordan 4-0 in qualifying, and we beat them 3-1 in a friendly with a man off.
Should be close.
Does anyone know anything about what the Bahrani (?) capital will be like to play in?
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Quite chilly, possibly a frigid 15C:
"In common with the rest of Bahrain, Manama experiences extreme climatic conditions, with summer temperatures up to 48 C and winter as low as 15 C with even hail at rare occasions. Average temperatures of the summer and winter seasons are generally from 17 C (63 F) to about 45 C (113 F). The most pleasant time in Bahrain is autumn when sunshine is low, along with warm temperatures tempered by soft breezes."
Averave temp in Mid-october is 35C.
By the way, as it is called Manama, there is a muppets song just damn BEGGING to be sung.
"Manamana do do de do-do" Manamana!

Ok first of all, for technical reasons we say the match is in the Capital, but its actually in south in Riffa (not far away from the Formula 1 track)
But Bahrain is small, so form the airport to the stadium shouldnt take more than half an hour.
Alcahol is legal in clubs and bars, pork is legal in restaurants (even prostitution is somewhat looked over)
We have a somewhat significant Aussie population, I think they have their own bar called Warbler's
For accommodation, bars and all that look for hotels and apartments in the 'Juffair' area its a safe area with lots fast food joints and a high expat population
other than that.. I hope u lose to a last minute goal

3 grand (ish) on Emirates. Qantas/BA can also get you there but I haven't checked fares.
And from a google search of "drinking in Bahrain": Bahrain has relatively liberal laws regarding alcohol and has long been a favorite getaway for visitors from Saudi Arabia and other nearby "dry" countries don't be surprised to see Arabs in thobe and gutra sipping cool brewskis as they watch dancers strut their stuff in the hotel nightclub. However, since May 2007 all this debauchery has been restricted to five-star hotels, and you will not find "regular" restaurants offering alcohol.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Royal Brunei $1,699 return to Dubai. Looks like you can get a flight from Dubai to Bahrain for $273 (think US) return around the same time. A bit over 2k NZ, anyone interested at this stage? I'm very, very tempted...but can't commit to it yet.

In competitive matches vs Thailand Bahrain drew 1-1 at home and won 3-2 away.
We lost to Thailand 3-1 I think although it was with a far weaker side. Note Thailand drew 0-0 away vs Jordon in an Asain Cup match this year.

Hey all
I spent some time in Bahrain in 2001.... its seems the bar scene (outside of hotels) has changed, but from memory (scetchy at best) The hotels were pretty good.
Lots of expats based in Saudi travel there on the weekends. Its a darn good time.
You can't really be legless in public, and I'm pretty sure urinating on the street will see you put in a dodgy jail.
Defintely recommend going there.

Tickets to the game are likely to be around 50nz equivalent and will go very fast.
Drinking is fine over here in the middle east, so long as you are sensible and don't shag a stranger on the beach, get told to leave by the police and continue any ways... stupid brits!!
Accomodation is expensive though.
I will be heading across from Dubai to watch the game, so if any one out there who is coming can bring us an aww whites shirt ( black) i will tee you up in Bahrain.
Also i have a mate who taught there for ten years so i will try to get a list of all the dodgy places to visit for those who make the trip.

Ok lads, I live in dubai and regarding the alcohol over here, as the yellow fever lads would know i like my drink, but i have never been moore boozed in my life then as i get over here, so to put problems to rest, drinking is absolutely fine over here as long as you don't go doing anything too rediculous in front of a policeman. Saying this, I haven't been to bahrain yet but hear drinking is just as good over there and there are a couple of good local basrs with super cheap bars - and i have heard word of a possible dentist chair for drinking similar to that of one certain paul gascoigne.
Flights, royal brunei is the cheapest option - downside is no drinks served on the plane. I came here on thai and it was pretty good and ya get to stop over in thailand for a couple of late night vodka red bull buckets.. that wil get you to dubai and then from dubai you can fly jazeera dubai to bahrain return for about 120 nz dollars as they have awesome deals with free flights and u just pay tax. check out www.jazeeraairways.com.
if people needa place to stay in dubai, let me know and i can try sort something out.. for all the ladies men like mr mike greeneand d.warburton i would say get here as the ladies are amazing or for the taken men like news, dont tell ya wife, just say ya going on business..
tickets to the match i would expect to be dirt cheap too, so all in its not gona cost too much for a once in a lifetime trip..
