That penalty save was even more awesome due to the fact Bahrain had started celebrating when the penalty was awarded. Riled me right up,believe my words were "havent scored yet you ******* *******!!" Then Paston saved, awesome!

And how about the Bahraini rolling around on the ground near the start, got our player (forget who) booked, then he leaps right up acrobatically and with a lot of energy, landing right on his 'sore' foot.

The Bahraini supporters are great guys. But their players really are w**kers

Yep, absolutely incredible night in aisle 19. The legs are suffering today from jumping around celebrating the goal, penalty save and final whistle. I haven't seen it on TV yet but would love to know if the crowd could be heard. It was deafening for the whole game.
Amazing night in Wellington that I'll never forget.

They muted the crowd somewhat, which caused a funny delay in the commentary

but yeah kinda sad to be muted, but guess they had to else the commentary couldnt be heard at all

This isn't the first time though, I noticed watching highlights of the Phoenix - Gold Coast game that the commentary was a bit weird? Almost sounded like the commentators weren't at the game!

I think they must have to run it through a program or something that mutes the crowd and makes the commentary audible, leading to a time lapse. I dont know though, but it is noticeable whenever they mute the crowd.

It's a pity really, I don't think they had to mute it that much, didn't sound as loud as a result (obviously).

Another video, this time taken taken by me of the goal and crowd reaction.  The first 15 seconds is lining up the corner, goal scored, mentalness ensues...... :)  Farkin' brilliant night! :)

Just got back to Palmy from the gratest night ever... so much to say, but words still fail me....

Brilliance from Pasty, Nelsen, Fallon, Killen, Brownie, Leo, Woody... and all the rest!! I really feared the worst after Siggy got booked after 2 mins, thought it was gong to be a long night, have never been more stoked to be wrong!!! As for Bahrain... sorry, but I lost all sympathy and respect for them the way they went over the top on winning the penalty, beautiful save from Pasty, for some reason though, I never thought they would score fromt he penalty... weird!!! Best crowd I have ever seen at a football game... a real football crowd!!! And well done  to the WN boys for organising the white out, looked bloody brilliant!!! Waiting with eager anticipation to see Saville's reaction on the news tonight now!!

Watching replays now.... love the penalty even more.... and absolutely love the way Pasty calmly gets up afterwards, no over the top celebrations, just walks away to redistribute!! Class!!! Leeds_Chris2009-11-15 16:11:32

Extraordinary night. My dad died late on Friday night, after long fight with cancer, and we , all parts of the family, thought going to the match  might be a sort of tribute to him. My dad was eighty three and carried a fever card. My mother had no ticket as she'd been planning on being at home, watching on the TV, with him.
We'd arranged for some friends to stay with my mother and THEN just five minutes before departure a friend of my sister's, who had come down ill called, and said "I'd like your mum to have my ticket". My mother was delighted. In her words "the best match of my life".

OK, here are my thoughts on the match

First half
Bahrain started positively in the first 10 minutes looking for a goal (as coach Macala stated before the match). But from then on, New Zealand stepped it up and started to play better with Chris Killen's volley hitting the crossbar. Bahrain then played their quick counter attack and forced Paston into a good save.

Fallon probably should have scored that first header. But that was a great save by Bahrain keeper Jaafar. Nice goal by Fallon to make it 1-0. Adnan was at fault for letting him getting away.

At the end of the half, New Zealand were the better side.

Second half
Bahrain went for it at the start of the second 45 and got a penalty. Lochhead clipped Omar, IMO. As for the penalty kick itself, the less said the better. Absolutely pathetic penalty for such a situation. Adnan looked so nervous I knew he was going to miss.

As expected, New Zealand were defending strongly at the back as they knew that any slip up and the Bahraini's can capitalise on the counter. New Zealand probably should have scored a goal themselves in the second half as Smeltz had a chance to seal it.

You could tell Bahrain were frustrated in the 2nd half and that foul throw summed it up.

And then, the whistle blows and Westpac Stadium erupts. Good on the Kiwis!!! Felt really happy for them.

For Bahrain, this is the second consecutive time theyve fallen at this hurdle in World Cup qualification. They just lack that mental toughness to lift on such occasions. They did a remarkable job to get past the Saudis, but it just wasnt to be for them, again. They will look back at those missed chances in the first leg and the missed penalty in the second leg and ponder what might have been.

To end my thoughts, congratulations to New Zealand. What an effort. What courage. Well done to Ricki Herbert and his players. Ricki has done so well with what he has. Im so happy for him and New Zealands presence next year will do great wonders to lift New Zealand football and give good exposure to the A-League. The Kiwis can now sit back and enjoy the ride from now until next year. Theyll love it and it will be great to see the All Whites get more exposure than the All Blacks.

My next door neighbours are Kiwis and werent home when the match was on. While Im not sure if theyre into football, I reckon they would have been watching the match and celebrating.

I know exactly what you guys are going through after we (Australia) ended our World Cup drought in 2005. Go on enjoy the moment. You deserve it.

I think the Bahrainis put a lot of pressure on their penalty taker by celebrating like idiots before having even scored it.

Just got back to Christchurh from Wellington - excelent weekend. Was worried for first 10 minutes of game but then we got in to the game - created more chances, thoroughly deserved win. All our boys played so well - gave it all.
And the crowd & atmosphere - what can I say.
The noise was huge, the team are so genuine in thanking the supporters.

Great to see  members so of the 82 team before the game and when Ricki & BT went over to shake their hands - what a moment .

So proud of the boys.

Well done Wellington

Er, any sack Ricki statement was made in regards to the performance of Wellington Phoenix, not the All Whites.

Lets just wait till the end of the A-League season eh?

Fair play to him for guiding you guys to the World Cup though.

Yeah seperate jobs. If we finished last in the A league, you wouldnt keep him just because of 2 AW games. But at the same time,it should have some recognition of his ability as a manager.

He's done well, no doubt, but club football is a different ball game to international football. There are arguably better A-League sides than some of the teams the All Whites have played in qualification. You can only beat who's put in front of you though, so don't think I am diminishing the achievement in any way when I say that.
