I think the Bahrainis put a lot of pressure on their penalty taker by celebrating like idiots before having even scored it.

From where I was sitting, there was absolutely gobsmacked fans everywhere in sight, at their behaviour before the kick was taken. One player was even kissing the ground. Talk about count ones chickens.

Paston has said he had a guess because he couldn't hear the sideline call. Modesty, face it Mark, you are a better keeper than you take credit for. I'm also thinking of that 18 yard rocket shot you also saved.

The only thing that annoyed me was the number of people on the concourse and later that night that said "oh yeah but we'll get smashed at the cup" and stuff. FFS just savour the moment and stop being so pessimistic.

Other than that, fantastic weekend, great buildup week just awesome.

Think it was HN,seems to think it was stadium ticket holders who basically own those seats (they were on halfway at the top just below where the cameras are),and they just didnt show, probably more into rugby i figure. Still shoulda given them up to someone who wanted to go.

SBS Aussie TV have paid tribute to the All Whites and there entry into next years World Cup but it never ceases to amaze me (rightly or wrongly LOL) that they are also taking credit for the win, noting that the A-League has played a significant contribution to the AW team. The only true Aussie to pay homage to our success was ex Aussie Liverpool player Craig Johnson who says that the Kiwis did really well considered the population was around 3M. We even got to see Mick Waite on the snippet too LOL!!!!

I agree but its just the way Aussies are - they like to back a winner (and take some credit) but they also like to have a laugh at our own expense when they can....point in case - when the Kiwis drew with Bahrain in Bahrain, there were scenes of jubilation from the coaching staff, players etc ....well the same SBS team laughed us off when they saw these scenes saying "it was like the kiwis had just won the world cup" LOL....

Just got home from Welly after a mammoth trip home, just over 12 hours taxi/boat/bus/train and car.

Great night, got lost in Welly 100 times on Saturday but what about FALLON! and PASTON!

f**ken brilliant, lads from Taranaki next to me were awesome too!

Just watched ESPNsoccernet presspass, Derek Rae gave Rory his top performer of the day. Over all of the African and European players involved in qualifiers.
They've got Ricki on the show tomorrow, should be a good interview.

They are the ones that we never see at the Nix games, so negative and expecting EPL quality footie. Ignore them, As you said, enjoy the moment and we now have a reason to get up at somer ungodly hour to watch them - if we are not there. Watching "Sunday" on one, I felt moistened eyes at the end of the article. There was an important comment there. "A sense of family" well I hope us fans will join toigether at the future Nix and NZ games and try and replicate the atmosphere. I'm not expecting a miracle but we now have something to strive for and a role to play. Atmosphere counts.

Great dedication Tim, was a magical time in Wellywood indeed. How did you go in the Freestyle Football Champs? Was down there Saturday morning watching the warm ups and didn't realise you were in it until I bumped into some of the other Spirit lads who had seen you perform.

There were about 10 empty seats by me which is dissappointing given the number of people that were breaking their neck to go and couldn't get seats.

NZ will not be "smashed" at the World Cup.  I can see this team improving in the next few months with some quality opposition/ build up games and a fantastic leader in Ryan Nelsen.  Inspiration can be drawn from the under 17's.  Kids can now look up to the AW'S as heroes.  They will not be there to "make up the numbers".

New Zealanders always like to crash parties, I say, we got to SA and spring a surprise or two!! We have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Let's cause a shock for all the right reasons.

That's a fair point, it's a bit like the older brother keeping the younger brash brother in check. I can tell you though that every one of my football mates were cheering for you guys last night.

What I find a bit rich is SBS eulogising over the a-league being responsible for the Aw success. This is the same station that is happy to kick the league ion the guts every time it gets a chance because it is still bitter that it missed out on the rights.

And don't listen to the crap about getting smashed in SA. You have a very decent first eleven but do lack depth. However, if your stars can remain injury-free, especially Nelsen, Killen and Smeltzy, you will do a lot better than the Confeds cup last year.

Finally, I know a lot of the kudos went to Pasty and Fallon, but did anyone else think Smeltzy was brilliant in the second half, with the way he held the ball up?

Yeah i did notice smeltzy was a bit invisible in the first half, but really came good in the 2nd. He really is a touch of class.

Smeltz was certainly good in the last half hour especially as Bahrain were forced to ease off the tight marking which had kept him quiet till then. But the man who impressed me overall on second viewing was Killen who showed every ounce of his experience to help get us across the line.

Once again, congrats guys. You deserve it. Enjoy the moment like we did in November 2005. Was looking at the pics from the parade in Wellington and had the song "Slice of Heaven" playing in the background.

Just a couple of quick questions guys:
1.) Does anyone have a video to the national anthems being played yesterday? The stream I watched the match on yesterday didn't show the anthems.  Would have liked to see the New Zealand being played.
2.) Was "Slice of Heaven" played at Westpac Stadium after the match?

On the opposite side of the field to us there were a lot of empty seats, partic in first half and some into the 2nd. I queried this and was told they were probably stadium season holders who prefer to stay in lounges ...

Oh man. Words actually cannot describe how amazing that was. Paston- I f**king love you. So humble afterwards too, and when all those fans were grabbing him. Mate, you did us proud. Rory Fallon- what a moment! Bullet header after a perfect cross and a killer time in the game too. That is every kid's dream- so well done!! The back line- quality. Siggy, I love him so much!! What a run to win the corner, rubbish yellow card and you're just the man. A Kiwi through and through. Nelsen- incredble player. Pure class. A captain. He was focussed, and that kiss of the badge before kick off summed it up for me. He wanted it so badly, to be the captain of a New Zealand World Cup team. And didn't he perofrm. Just breathtaking. Gah, I could go on about all the players. Bertos was top, the midfield never stopped running, put in good tackles too. The front three never stopped working etc etc. I'm sure its all ready been covered.

Superb atmosphere. Must have been amazing to be there! Great job to everyone involved. Everybody supported them and believed- pressured the Bahrainis and I think that went on the pitch too. The players played with their heart and never stopped running.

Also, I had to laugh at Vicelich's interview when asked what he'd say to West Auckland: "Yeah, I'd just like to give a big thumbs up" (or words tothat effect). Good on ya mate, although I'm not sure you heard the question properly!

We are going to the World Cup. Fan-f*cking-tastic.
