Unfortunate we were unable to spoil the party, but honestly losing by only a single goal to Australia on their home turf is not too bad, if only De Jong was able to put away that early chance. Also really glad Leckie didn't make it 2-0 towards the end there. We have a chance at Eden Park with a big crowd building and hopefully Libby is alright, he Just and Garbett did very well.
Any plans to score goals from anyone? Geeez we have got skills, but our team is on a major goal slump. Wood is out of confidence. Tuiloma and Reid are goal scorers from deeper or corners. Waine needed to be starting imo. Think Old is better than de Jong, that may be one eyed Phoenix fan talk.
Not sure really who was at fault for the goal. Well placed, maybe Payne’s positioning is out?
Distribution fell off a cliff after subs. De jong and Ingham are questionable starters. Actually thought Bell held the midfield better despite some mistakes - he's barely played so maybe rusty. We don't have much depth at full backs nothing we can do about that.. not being able to score is a real problem.
Unfortunate slip, well placed shot. Pity. We burst through there defenses a few times, but couldn’t put it away. Maybe we need to teach all our strikers that Smeltz feint/jink to the right? That seemed to work better than it had a right too!
hi lads from ARGENTINA, i woke up at 7 am in my free day of professor to watch the match after SPRING DAY/ STUDENT'S DAY which is a holiday for students and teachers.
I watched the game I must tell you, very impressed by the NZ performance, to be sincere even though he was caught in possession and was punished I THINK BELL is by far your best player by a mile then a bit the next GARBER AND CACACE, but the BELL influence in the team is notorious, when he is replaced the team gets a bit disjointed he is one of those players who makes his teammates better. i think DE JONG was very good and did an awesone turn and feint to ´put WOOD one on one with RYAN only for the ball to hit WOOD backfoot. i SENSED wood a bit rusty tbf, IN MY OPINION THE achilles heel of the NZ team is still de keeper. he was at fault vs C.R and today, it was a great goal but the keeper could have done better, I really doubt his positioning, that's why for me was always MARINOVIC, i think SAIL is playing with pressure on himself, he seems always very nervous, he in a way is too young a goalkeeper, but in 10 more caps make he is settled, that is it, he looks unsettled of course he saved a goal at the end after a free kick like vsCR the team was already 0-1
the back 3 was ok, the right back was correct, even though I THInk ROUX is the better player and he can bring and outlet for attacking in a SEAMUS COLEMAN mould.
MIDFIELD WAS ok, BELL was the best player bar that mistake and GARBETT is gonna be a class player in my opinion.
MY ARGENTINA RATINGS for the all whites
SAIL 5 PAYNE 6 BOXALL 7 PINJAKER 6 INGHAM 6 BELL 8 GARBETT 7 CACACE 7 JUST 6 WOOD 5 DE JONG 6
the goals will arrive nz is going on the right direction, just the killing instinct, NZ IS PLAYING football very nicely, nice movements dribles, passes in progression in advance, very lovely football indeed , as with CR NZ WAS THE BETTER TEAM , just need the killing touch , that if they keep playing together they will find, it is just a matter of time and playing together , cohesion and the goals will flood again similar opposition
I WILL START the following IF injury free
SAIL /( because Marinovic was not called up WOUD could be too TUILOMA REID PINKJAKER ROUX BELL GARBETT CACACE GRIEVE/jJUST WOOD DE JONG
best regards KIWIS , enjoy the SPRINGTIME, slds JAVIER F
Hay was a defender, as a coach he likes 5 at the back and hopes for a break away snatch and grab win. Yet, the worst part of the team is the very thing that should be the strongest - defence. Hay owns that problem. The younger players give hope for the future but until that defence is sorted out, we will continue to lose 1-0 games. Look good going forward but for the finishing. Waine should be starting on Sunday me thinks. Hay, you were a defender, sort it out.
Not sure if it's a good or a bad thing, but the last three televised games, so excluding Oman which no one saw, the All Whites have conceded 3 goals from only 5/6 shots on target conceded. So they have been restricting the opposition, but maybe it's a question of just bad luck with the shots faced or questions about the goalkeeping.
Also now at 476 minutes without an open play goal against non-OFC opposition.

3 big issues we need to fix if we are gonna be comepetive against teams outside our small pond. 1) Conceding easy/soft goals, 3 games, 3 goals from our own defensive errors. 2) Ball control, we keep giving the ball away in good positions for the opposition 3) Scoring goals, Wood is great at holding the ball up and laying it off for another attacker, these others are terrible at shooting (de Jong is pants). You'd expect Waine/Kosta to have scored on the breakaway from Sail to Wood's head, and that makes it 1-0 to us before half time.
Forgot this was on. Looking at the highlights we looked really good. Is that just highlight bias?
Id say in general in open play we looked a bit more creative than Aus but really failing to find that final link play to Wood, our defence looked like it could implode at any moment. Reid still adds a lot so a shame he is retiring.
Thought Bell worked very hard and won a lot of ball, but were also too many stray passes. Cacace, Just, Wood and Garbett were all great.
You add Thomas to that lineup (and maybe Singh), plus give garbett a couple of years of development and think we will be a very tidy team. Think in a couple of years time we should be on par with Aus.
