See the warriors commentators today sarcastically referring to the all whites "international soccer game" as a "thrilling 0-0 draw"
Fu*kers. You'd think as sky commentators they'd want to promote the game that was part of sky's lineup. But then I guess it's not like sky actually give a sh*t about 'soccer'
Yeah that pissed me off too.
You've got to be kind to the Warriors- they've been in the finals about as much as we have, except they've been around twice or several times as long and are always electrifyingly exciting.
Some of their fans are like Dylan Cleaver for the Herald or Drysdale and Adam Pararoe- never likely to talk to people from football countries or see football as anything other than a cutesy 'feel good' game not played by the hard men of this world.
So what? Simon Doull is a fan or at least talked them up on air. Pics of Conrad Smith in a Phoenix scarf. Happy to have these two on board. If the Warriors commentators of their always successful never dull sport of two vertical lines going up and down a horizontal plane aren't on board well, whatever. Are all of us always on board with the Warriors even when they are coming last and second last and not winning WCs? Haven't really watched them since Campion, Jones and Ali Lautiti.
And to be honest, they're partly right. Screw the we played beautiful football thing. We were toothless in attack and didn't show a whole lot of urgency. We need more goal scorers in the team, even with Kosta and Wood back. The game desperately needed a goal, but it seemed like neither side was really hungry for it, a little like they were pulling their punches. Or a big centre forward throwing his weight around and causing trouble for the defence. Only really decent shot I remember was from the free kick and probably the best save I've ever seen Mossy make.
Besides- there is the WC coming up. And just quietly they will be watching that. Talking about it at work. We have to demand and earn their respect with our performances, not moan at stuff like this. Get a coach, get our stars and ex-stars in behind our team and keep the momentum of the Ricki years going. I don't care how we do it frankly, but I want us to win games and worry our opponents.
Andy Martin has really got his work cut out. I hope he's been in touch with Graham Seatter, Mike Glading et al...and asked them about what they did and thought...cos Seatts was the one who started us on the WC run by having the AWs play games together...
