Tahiti coach Eddy Etaeta eternally optimistic in naming his strongest squad again with star striker Marama Vahirua included - Vahirua of course currently on loan to Panthrakikos in Greece from Nancy in France after 15 year career in French Ligue 1 with league and cup medals and Champions League appearances. His transfer from Nice to Lorient in 2007 was worth 1.2 million Euros, so certainly one of the most expensive players to ever come out of Oceania...

He was called up for Tahiti's last two World Cup matches but didn't make it - understandable given he had just agreed loan terms in Greece a week before. Has played all of Panthrakikos' matches in the Greek Super League since his debut 16/9/12.

http://www.oceaniafootball.com/ofc/News/ViewArticle/tabid/125/Article/2a9246bd-6324-44ab-afb6-d992ad86521f/language/en-US/Default.aspx

"The Tahiti team also has a settled look to it but coach Eddy Etaeta has plenty of head-scratching to do after seeing his side follow their Nations Cup triumph with a winless start to Stage 3. But he will be buoyed by a positive showing at the recent French Overseas Territories Cup, which saw the Toa Aito beat defending champions Martinique 3-2 and earn a 1-0 win over fellow francophones New Caledonia - sweet revenge for their 4-0 loss to the same opponents in the previous round of Stage 3. Etaeta has called up Marama Vahirua for each of the prior Stage 3 matches but the former France U-21 international is yet to take part and, while he has been named again, it would be a major surprise if the striker - now on loan at Greek club Panthrakikos from Nancy - fronts for either match against New Zealand."

In their own words

“If we are able to achieve a positive result, the qualifiers will be totally opened up. We know more about New Zealand after their last two games and it is definitely not the same team we saw at the Nations Cup. We have done a lot of travelling and played many games in a short period of time which has affected the players on a mental and physical level. But we complained that we didn’t play enough internationals over the last eight years so now we have to enjoy it.” – Tahiti coach Eddy Etaeta

I think Ricky has to be very careful saying things like this:

In another twist, Herbert said he thought it was unfair he request Phoenix defender Michael Boxall join the All Whites' squad as cover.

"I think the club's made a pretty good contribution to this group,'' he said. "That would be a completely unfair request ... I guess I feel that from both sides, obviously.''

I'm sure both West Ham and QPR or Pana, or the Galaxy could well consider that asking players to come half way round the world for friendlies, or if the next set of matches are dead rubbers, or when other players are coming to sit on the bench etc to be unfair requests.

Latest from radio commentator Jason Pine who flew over with the team yesterday:

FAR FROM IDEAL PREPARATION FOR ALL WHITES

By: Jason Pine | Latest Football News | Friday October 12 2012 12:56

The All Whites' preparations for tomorrow night's World Cup qualifier in Tahiti haven't quite gone to plan.

The side was scheduled to train on a local pitch this morning but things haven't quite gone to plan.

On arrival it was obvious no meaningful session would be able to take place, with the ground bumpy and full of holes.

With only 14 outfield players in the squad, the staff decided it was too risky and the session was called to an early end.

However, the bus which had dropped the team off had vanished, leaving the team sitting in the midday sun while calls were frantically

One of the linked articles on the news page suggested Smith at left back, with Ivan moving into centre defence...

Will check it out but my understanding is that there aren't cameras at the game, so I think the chances of a stream being live are close to 0%...

I don't remember the last time I used a proper radio, but I have a radio function on my surround system in the lounge and thought it might be fun to listen to the AW's while watching the A-League

There won't be a live stream as per OFC TV, only a 10 minute highlight package.

In saying that if you find one please post it here!
