Way to casual by us to start the game, its not a picnic. Haiti with all the intensity and get the goal. n

Argentinian commentator on TYC who are brodcasting the game are calling the NZ players "pierna de madera"  which means "Leg of wood" - basically implying the NZ players dont have much control of the ball, or strong tecnhical ability, and its 1-0 Haiti.

Payne probably the biggest culprit for the goal, allowed the Haiti attacker to get goal side when receiving the ball.

That would have been sensational from Wood. Wow.

Started from Stamenic heading a long ball under no pressure to a couple of Haiti players. We need Bell and his non stop communication

Surman and Paulsen sketchy so far

Anyway we are creating real chances now

We have looked better since going down the goal

So much better after conceding. I hate how it takes us to get to that point before we decide we can play though.

Come on lads, we're bloody well in this!

Our passing around their goal box is letting us down a bit.

Early days but the left combo Libby- Randall doing better than Payne-Just on the right

Need to be confident enough to actually punch it into Just & Singh. We just look at them and then go backwards.

Astounding how piss poor our delivery from set pieces has been when you'd have assumed it would have been a big focus considering coming up against much stronger teams in the tournament it may be our best avenue for goal scoring opportunities.

Massive block there by Payne.
Should have been 2-0.

We have to start taking these chances. We won’t get half as many against better opposition

We're getting cut up on the break. Haiti are bookies favourites in England to be the worst team at the WC yet they have done us twice.

Dominating since the goal though they are swift to counter

It’s that old Achilles of creating real chances and then converting. Need Just and Singh on the ball more

Shades of the 2022 playoff against that other CONCACAF side Costa Rica when we conceded early

How many of the 11 subs available does everyone expect us to make at half time?

Also do we think Bazeley has decided to give a half each to Paulsen and Crocombe?

Iraq could cop a few hidings being in the Group of Death

Cabo Verde looked very average in NZ in March

Haiti have found some quality pickups since qualifying and this is a virtual home game for them

This asleep at the wheel for the first 15 minutes of a game tendency we have isn't going to cut it at the big dance. It's been a whole four years since our most costly display of this and doesn't appear we've made any effort to address it in that time.

This game and the Finland game really demonstrating how important Joe Bell is to our side.

Also please stop lobbing it in to Wood, play those quick passes and through balls like we do without him, that’s his bread and butter in the PL anyway

I'm not the biggest Bell fan but I think he's better then the Roofs playing today. Thomas is the player we really need out there.

bit of a shaky first half, 1-0 but could be 1-1 if Woods overhead shot had gone in.
goal came from Surman's second stumble in the box, first one could have cost a goal but he recovered second time he loses his footing and hits the deck allowing the shot. Paulsen probably should have done better but Payne probably should have stopped the forward pass too. Expect plenty of changes during half time so will be hard to know how we'll play during the actual tourney if/when we are behind.

they will likely be starting ahead of Roofs, but theya re both being rested for these to warm up matches?

It’s been openly reported each keeper will get 45 mins.

Otherwise I think Baze might be tempted to keep a lot of the outfield guys on for another 15-20 mins

Apparently Bell to play England. Thomas to miss both warmups

Joe B is a whole level above Rufer these days. Bell and Stamenic also seems to work well as a combo

what one earth was that, our defence is still asleep!
Boxhall and De Vries, both slow to react the ball through to the striker, FDV on the wrong side and Boxy nowhere near the man.

How f**king soft was that. Rubbish.

I said a lot earlier on in this thread that our defence was super important. Playing like this against Belgium and England will be fatal.
