We need our best XI to play most of the next game or we'll end up with a cricket score.

We struggled with the possession we had in the 1st half but Haiti have scored with just about every chance they've had. We piss about on the ball too much and most have bad first touches.

over reaction much!
yes this isnt the best performance from our lads
but it's a warmup game, a lot of the best XI are returning from injuries,
if we turn up like this against Iran then maybe we can be concerned but we wont!

We are clearly saving our good defending and good attacker for the World Cup proper

I head off to the states in two days to follow our boys. It will be the most expensive trip I will have ever been on. USA and Canada are fleecing left right and centre. I see pain ahead. Wish I wasn't wasting my money now. Thanks Baz and NZF.

I'm sorry but this is very concearning - especially with England on the weekend. Bazely has some serious soul searching to do to get this team ready for Sunday and the World Cup.

I get we had a few players we needed to manage for injuries. But two weeks out from the first World Cup match you don't want to be 50/50 about more than half the side. You want a solid team of starters with familiarity, chemistry and communication.
The heat probably didn't help because there was some seemingly lazy defending there.
We can do better. And maybe the kick up the butt will help. Needs to.

Two in the midfield doesn’t work huh…or perhaps little works without Bell?
Also we were so so much better with Libby out there. Nuts to whoever suggested he shouldn’t start.
Old’s pace also needed if just as a defensive sub when our players tire and it starts to open up
Sadly FDV’s great crossing is not enough to mitigate the other huge problems he has at this level
It ain’t all lost just yet. We could still nick a 1-1 or even 1-0 against Iran or Egypt
To be fair I think they might have been suggesting Old rather than De Vries at LB.
And also possibly worried that he might not last playing more football in a week than he’s played in a season and using him as an impact weapon once they were rolling on the ground laughing might be the way to go…
But yeh. Trying to make Tony Hudson look like a genius?
So 2-1 over England?

Have done both of them. Problem is everything is expensive, even rental cars. Thanks to Trumps oil wars fuel is now expensive there too.
Will be saved by a week in Vegas and time with the Flying Kiwis in Whistler.

Well... Awful advertisement for the All Whites World Cup campaign, I'm on the plane to watch next week too and as another post said, it's not cheap! We need to play much much better when the competition begins.
We looked decent enough in the first half after Haiti opened the scoring, frustrating to not get on the score sheet after the first 45. So many wasted corners too. And probably the worst 45 minutes of this World Cup cycle in the second half. None of our centre backs covered themselves in glory, if only there was another centre back to compete for positions if needed... (that's not from Braintree Town) Our CB's will probably be our busiest players for most of the tournament.
It's been a long wait to watch NZ at the World Cup, this was a really ugly game, and gets no easier with our fixtures.
Also - I think the TVNZ coverage was a bit amateur - commentator struggled to keep up with substitutions and the pre-match research didn't seem to extend much further than age, number of caps, and what clubs players played for. Considering more people than usual would be watching this friendly, could have done a bit better in this regard. Especially if you have some casuals considering buying the TVNZ pass but alas. It might just be me being antsy.
I think football in this country has grown and improved over the past decade, and I think it's outgrown a coach of Baze's caliber.

I find it hard to defend our guys considering a portion of the defense play or have played MLS/Lower level USA so should be used to conditions.

Surman badly at fault for the first 3 goals, though not the only one lacking for a couple of them.
Wonder if Baze will panic and go to a back 5 now.

Putting it lightly, that was a tough watch.
Being more forthright, that was fucking awful*
*The first half was a typical NZ performance - Concede a poor/soft goal, play relatively well after the setback, with lots of set piece situations, a pretty good handful of half chances (although nothing clear cut) and we go in 1-0 down but with a flicker of hope. It wasn't a bad half in all honesty, but it showed our shortcomings in that we're very limited in that final ⅓. A few bright spots, but it was definitely not cutting edge. We were in it at that point though.
That second half - God damn up there with the worst halves of football we've played in a long while - poor turnovers, soft goals, and Haiti pouncing on every slip up, errant pass or turnover and then capitalizing on them in a big way. They were essentially toying with us in the end there.
I know it's only a warm up so we've got to look at the bigger picture and all that, but wowee that England game could get bloody ugly...

I don't know if it would have made any difference today, but the NZF staff and players who finished their club seasons early (Barba, Nix, L1 & Championship guys) should have been in the States from early May.
It's what Poppa and the Socceroos did, into Florida 2-3 weeks before the AWs. A message of we are not here to just make up the numbers, and we will leave no stone unturned to be the best prepared we can be. Admittedly Poppa had many more tight selection calls to make compared to Bazeley, and alot of that early Socceroos camp stuff was giving everyone a fair chance to effectively trial for the World Cup squad.
But man FIFA gave each qualified nation apparently $US2.5M soley to prepare for the WC. Why not get likes of Singh, Payne, Barba, Libby, Garbett, Bindon, Crocs, Cultural Architect, Waine, Stamenic, Rufer etc into some hard fitness training stateside as soon as their club seasons were over. Those first 8 named have all played little or no football the last few months. A run around game against Inter Miami's MLS Pro side or something, as try to get Libby, Singh & Garbs especially up to match fitness level ASAP.
But no just leave them at the Nix, Wrexham, Peterborough, Millwall to do their own training for 2-3 weeks?? To me it reeks of some lazy casualness in our WC prep. As has been mentioned previously we played 4 warmups before the Slovakia game in 2010. You feel we are at least one warmup game light heading into the Iran match, especially with key players like Libby are short of match fitness.
If players ain't near full match fitness/sharpness their abaility to start or even come off the pine & impact a game is limited. You feel we have too many guys in that camp.
Lads who would have been benefited by having an extra 2-3 weeks together with the AWs coaches & trainers, and a couple of games against MLS Next Pro or similar type opponents.
Again may have made no difference to today's game, when our near 1st eleven did dominate large parts of the first half.

At least we can improve that starting XI with Thomas, Bell & Old instead of Singh, Rufer & Randall. All offer a lot more defensively, and we are going to need it. Playing Singh at #10 is a luxury we simply cannot afford

Who is to blame for the first goal then? Didn’t he get waltzed past?

If I were to apportion blame, it would be Payne for letting the attacker receive the ball goal side of Payne and drive at goal. Surman has come across, the attacker dummied a shot which Surman attempted to block, the attacker drives to the goal line, Surman recovers but great finish to dink the ball as it took out any possible block by Surman or save by Paulsen.

I think I'd start McCowatt on the left for his hard pressing. Old as a 2nd half sub for either McC or Libby. Old's pace today would have been very useful to try shut down some of their 2nd half counters.
Hopefully by the Iran game Libby can play close to 90 mins. That and rapid Ben O alongside Cacace would have prevented some of the 2nd half chaos today.
Agree the need to tighten up our defence, sees Singh become an impact sub if Bell & Thomas are both fit to start.

I would be disappointed if we were beaten by 4:0 by England, since I think we should be more competitive. To be beaten 4:0 by Haiti though requires some serious thinking. Not to take anything away from Haiti, but - apart from superb athleticism as I expected in an earlier post - their individual skills, short passes and interplay made us look pedestrian in comparison. Haiti scored from (I think) every shot on goal, in contrast we barely got any on target. But apart from any individual shortcomings of our players I continue to suspect Baze is just out of his depth outside of Oceania qualifiers and had no ideas what to do tactically when Haiti appeared early on as a strong opposition.
Haiti have a very tough group, but they should be competitive even against Brazil of today. My MOTM would be their (Haiti) first half goalkeeper, very impressive with his command of the six yard box.

Interesting. I think we need to see how Singh goes with Bell. But you might be right.
Finland/Chile.
I think Boxall and Bell need to be in our starting team and maybe not a 5 at the back, but 3 in the midfield at least.
A disaster of a warm up, but shelve this one. I wonder if the England game is more important to Bazeley than the Cup itself?
We’ve got the capacity to up our performance. If we will is the question.
