For all the shark Herbert got for being overly defensive - I don't think i've seen as negative a set up as Hudson started in the last two games.

I'm proud of our boys - 120 something in the world.

Was always going to be very tough - every player gave it there all.

I hope it rains on their public holiday.....

I wish them well.  They have well and truly out played us.  It means a lot to them, and I hope they enjoy it.

The lack of pens against Peru is frustrating.

But still 2-0 over 2 games, against Peru, I'm still pretty chuffed with the team.

Not me, I never fell for that shark, I looked at what he had (not) achieved prior to us and what was said about him by the Welsh fans in  Newport.

Bye Hudson.

Hoping for 0 - 0 by HT and then bringing on attackers. Hmmm.

Brockie on as last resort.

Do people genuinely think Hudson would choose to not play Wood even if he was fully fit?

If you're fit enough to come on at half time you're fit enough to start

And play until half time?

If Hudson said it was tactical, then yeah...redefines tactical.

play until halftime, get a massage in the sheds at least, come back out. This way we only get 45 minutes from him. If he started we might have got more. And we look 10 times more threatening when he's on.

I'd say his earlier header was a better chance

It's tough to be too frustrated when you see how much it means to their fans, seeing there joy has even put a smile on my face.

So into injury time, with three minutes left and we have a  corner why was there only four players in the box?

Given how NZF works right now, I can't wait to see their budget cut version.

Yep, it's like Hudson was forced to a game plan in round one that worked quite well and thought he'd replicate it.

Disagree completely. I think we've shown we can compete with nations ranked 100 levels above us, at least at home. We've shown we don't deserve our current rating, and shown that plenty of our players have bright futures. We've shown it is worth investing in the national team at least with a lot of young talent and overall things are looking very good for the next few years.

Keep in mind there was the potential for 30 minutes of time added on and we'd want Wood for penalties if it came to that.

We played well with our limited resources, and by that I mean money, travel, infrastructure, exposure, talent available. By "talent available" I also mean coaching.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

A bit frustrated by that, seeing what we could string together, admittedly when Peru had something to defend. Guts!

thank goodness we went down two goals so we were encouraged to actually play football, sort of.

good effort from the team against big odds.  but I think I'd rather see us try to play

No way that was a foul either.

Aye but conversely it was obvious Hudson wanted 0 - 0 at half time and then 45 mins for Wood to grab a goal and avoid extra time.

Wood starts and plays 60 and maybe nicks a goal in the first half, things are a bit different.

Unless Hudson assumed we'd go a goal down and Wood was there to get the equaliser.

Whatever, we're fudged now NZF has no money.

I'm disappointed we never merged with the Asian Confederation. This home and away, against sides like Mexico and Peru, is way too tough.

Bahrain was doable, but there was still nothing in that either.

In saying that, if we had a bit more upfront tonight then we were a good chance for a draw.

I know it's not much consolation to us but this means a heck of a lot to Peruvians. Thirty six years out of the WC Finals is quite incredible really.

Spain '82 is where it all really began for me. There were a few moments before, plenty of moments after, but that World Cup was the zeitgeist.

Now we are out - I'd like for Peru and Oz to be in same pool to see how they compare. Is that possible?

I think this Peru side will struggle in Russia.  I was at Wembley for the Brazil England match, both of those teams would have destroyed Peru and us from what I've seen.

While happy with the draw in Wellington, we should have got a result there but Hudson's BS use of Wood etc nullified that option.

Peru were not that good, Australia could have beaten them in the playoffs.

Also I think Wynne and Colvey showed they have a future with the national team. Considering all the Peru attacking play was through the wide areas they did well.

Seriously? I think Peru were very good in the first half, they had a plan to stretch play wide and their cross field balls, control and support play to do this was executed perfectly.

Honestly on fourfourtwo forums aussie fans saying they would have easily doubt with Peru. They were awful against Hondurus. Lets hope Peru get paired with them at wc and maul them.

PARK THE BUS never works. Having your best player on the bench for half the game so you can use him as a strike weapon never works. But hey Anthony Hudson you have that win over New Caledonia on your CV.

What now?

Back to club footy.

The national team dreams are over for another four years.

Qatar '22 (if it even gets played there) begins...tomorrow. Today is all about being as flat as.

Spain '82 is where it all really began for me. There were a few moments before, plenty of moments after, but that World Cup was the zeitgeist.
