All Whites vs Wales

As many of you as possible should go to www.tvnz.co.nz and send them an email complaining about their lack of coverage of NZ football. I just checked their latest sports news on their website and it doesn't even have the All Whites result as lead item. Some crap about Sabbatini sharing the Colonial Lead. You need to get stuck into these cnuts. I just sent them an email telling them they are doing football a disservice with their coverage - best described as LAME. Don't get all abusive but chose your words wisely, words that still can cut the bastards deep without making an arse of yourself or football fans in general. We've got to be clever whilst still being able to get the knife in:-p

Great result - now wait for the enthusiastic media response! - oops, missed it.
Thank god for this website & Soccer Talk.

Yea, Mark Elrick did look really nervous, but he had to stay up until 2 in the morning and then talk on TV - I don't know if many of us would be good at that.

Why don't all the yellow fever members just not watch One News if they do football such a disservice? 3 News has good coverage so we may all as well watch that.

The coverage from both channels is crap. The best you can hope for is 20 seconds. Do what I do & surf the two channels, pisses the family off but when it's the only chace of getting your hit for the week it's all you can do.

TV3 does at least make an effort. I just think TVNZ have got their resources stretched too thinly. They are spending a lot of money covering the Americas Cup (yawn) and Brendon Telfer must be paying them to show the netball just to keep him in a job!
Getting back to Mr Elrick, I'm not a fan of him as a comments person. He just babbles on and on about nothing. No intellect, no idea, so what is he doing on TV? I know The Jam is a mate of his but boy Elrick just gets my heckles up when he opens his mouth on TV.

If the TAB ran odds on it I'd be putting the house on TVNZ 's lead story being the Junior All Blacks v Samoa today.

Sad bastards.

Hahaha, Junior All Blacks. What a name. Whilst some of them are not quite old enough to be my dad there are some senior players in that team. Why don't they call them NZ A? Junior All Blacks should be the name given to a development team of U19's or somink like dat.
But you are quite right, no doubt a leading story in the sports world today. Man I wish I was head of sport at TVNZ. There would be absolutely NO rugby, apart from full screenings of games that the All Blacks LOST. Plenty of local football coverage though from Small Whites up to All Whites.
Yes, we could show Marton United Rebels v Takaro Tigers in the Manawatu 9th grade live, right through to the big games:-)
Damn I hate rugby.

Wow thats a memory from the past, I played for the Marton Rebels 25 years ago.

Coverage will likely be small, our major hope is that the Phoenix get some good results early and the weekly coverage will raise the profile. Get 10000 plus per game and they will see the benefit.

After a season of reasonable football, it will become more of a normal new item rather than hoping the two networks run a significant amount of time on a one off result. The All Whites are out of the picture too long to get any momentum going, both the Phoenix and results like this will start to get noticed.

I can't remember if I played for the Rebels myself. I def played for Marton Marauders at one point when I was with the Marton United club, going on to play for the 2nd and then first team with guys such as Peter De Roo and the Kos brothers - Paul and John. You may remember Sam Lindsay. I think he is still playing and he must be around 63ish by now. Hell of a nice guy and loves his football! Then I became a journeman footballer playing for Feilding United,North End, Takaro, Manawatu United, hell I think I played at least once for every club in the Manawatu albeit under fake names on many an ocassion - all in the name of getting a game of course:-p I remember driving down from Hamilton home to Marton once and discovering United were short of players. I zoomed over to Wilson Park but missed the transport over to Palmy so continued on and got there 10 mins into a game against Takaro. We got hammered 9-1 or something but I did take the corner that Sam Lindsay headed in for us.

Yes I am aware that NZ has to get a profile and earn some respect. I just get so sick and tired of picking up a newspaper and reading what coloured undies Dan Carter is wearing today and who chipped a toenail in training etc....it's just a total yawnfest for me.

just caught the sports news on both channels.

tv3 prioritised the story, whereas it camm in after the australian league games on tv1.  however, tv1 afforded about double the time to the story.

should have been first article and occupied 5 minutes on each channel such is the game's significance, but try telling those muppets that.  if veich is the nominated front man, just imagine what sort of idiots there are in the background.

Both Prime and TV3 led with the All White game on their sports news (and 3 followed it up with a Beck's story). Big ups to both of them.
I thought I might have missed it when I flicked over to TV One - but sure to form it came up well down the pecking order after some local netball. Shocker

LOL - well you weren't wrong there aye!

While I am a rugby and League fan, I found TVNZ were bloody hopeless as surely you would top bill an depleted All Whites team with a historic draw with Wales - go figure....chareimos2007-05-27 19:16:53

Veitch seems to be more intent on being seen as a jack-the-lad type of personality rather than doing a professional job fronting the sport on TV1.
Football doesnt turn his knob. Only he knows what turns his knob, and it's probably looking in the mirror at himself every morning. What a cock.

If Murray Deaker can dedicate 30 mins on Radiosport to the All Whites and speak with Steve Sumner, the least that COCK BANDIT VEITCH could have done was open with this as Sports Headline.

Hey Veitchy pull your head out of Ridge and Ellis's arses. Start being a serious presenter/ journo!!

TV3 is consistently more even handed in its football coverage.

TV1's sports editorial team just looks for opportunities to have a snipe at NZ footy, and when they have no choice but to cover a 'positive' football story (ie tonight) they bury it as deep, and beneath as many local netball, motor sport and 'dime a dozen' NRL matches as they can find.

I have boycotted all of TVNZ news out of principle. I'm sure that will begin to bite in the TVNZ boardroom soon enough.

I can't wait for these massive All Black tests against France 'C'.

I heard Murray Deaker talking to Steve Sumner. To get significant football coverage on TV the Phoenix will have to do well.

I know this is slightly off topic, but you know how on sky there is a rugby channel (enormous load of dribble I know)? Do you reckon they will ever make a football channel, because there is enough football going on around the world and there are lots of people who would watch it.loyalgunner2007-05-27 20:47:18

It's not Veitch's call. He is a front man. The head of TVNZ sport is Chris Mirams, the boxing hack. Hates football with a passion and is a complete know-it-all cynical egomaniac. I don't know how you are going to affect him, he won't read your emails. Suggest you go higher up the chain, perhaps News head, or programming head. Unfortunately there is no TVNZ incentive for publicising football as they don't cover it and see coverage as being a free advert to Sky, who they hate with a passion.

When Charlie Dempsey abstains from voting its Headline News.
When Knights / Kingz in sh*t its Headline
When All Whites perform its buried, domestic Netball takes priority.
TVNZ are a joke!!!!!!!!
A Football channel makes sense and instead of replays (rugby channel) more opp for regular live football monday to sunday. But probably no chance of that.

There is a hell of a lot of football on "free" on sky (I know that is a contradiction of terms}. ESPN cover Italian, Spanish, European football. Would most people want this jeopardised for a football channel.
Perhaps a better solution would be to get Sky to give us the Star coverage, rather than the crap ESPN coverage. When I was in Asia their football coverage was brilliant and Star is a sister station to the owners of Sky (both being Murdoch channels).
Having said that, it would be great to have a football only channel if it were to get all the Sky programming from the UK which included lower division football and internationals.

You are right on in all respects mate. But if enough of us get to games then it will be news. We have to do what the rest of the world does and that is turn up to games ans support our team as though our lives depend on it!!!
The media control the public perception of the sport, even more so in a small country like ours. Because we're easy going kiwis they have been getting away with promoting a minority sport (rugby) for years. So we're not easy going any more ..... be staunch... stand tall ..... and bring on the first riot at the Caketin (decent chants will do for starters).

very impressed with the result, the boys did the nation proud given the situation. and i would formally like to retract my comment on Mr Smeltz, he played very well and deserves a contract somewhere higher up the chain than Halifax.

i think we can all agree that Veitch is a muppet who needs a bullet.

i quite like Prime's sports coverage. sure they cover lots of rugby, but they also show everything else. my bet is they'll be the ones to show the most on WPFC this season. and maybe they'll frequently cover it on the crowd goes wild aswell

Good game, AW's done well, thought the ref was going to loose it in the first half.

What a time to show it on TV, typical of NZ television.

I'm sorry guys but some of us have to get over the fact that soccer doesn't rate generally with the NZ public and so most media outlets don't give it the time of day.  We all get frustrated when we can't get coverage or reports of the things we want (hell, I had to get the All Whites score from the NZ Herald website because it hadn't been posted on Yellow Fever when I woke up). We can quote all the participation rates etc that we want but the plain fact is that rugby is number 1. When the Nix get 15,000 crowds (like the Warriors can) and the All Whites get 30,000 to home games - we can expect coverage. I was lucky enough to be around and witness our run to the World Cup and 1982 and there was NO OTHER sport reported at the time - success brings coverage.  Some of these media hacks might be raising their eyebrows at the latest result, imagine their reaction if we string together similar games against top quality opposition - they are prostitutes, they will give the public what they think they need. In winter, most workplace conversations are about the weekend's rugby - not soccer I'm afraid.

TV One is a disgrace. I watch TV 3 for football coverage and was glad to see the All Whites lead the news as they should have! But to then turn around to TV1 five minutes later and see their coverage was an embarrassment to them. Obviously they would have lead with some BS on netball or the f#%king Junior ABs.

Theres nothing we can do about it, theyre just a bunch of f*$king idiots.

On a better note, the Dompost had the AWs splashed all over the front page of their sports section today, the entire page!! As a Wellingtonian I think the Dom does a good job with football, especially with the Phoenix so far. Havent seen other major papers like the Herald/Press but assume they led prominently with the AWs. This was a great result and deserves big coverage. Problem with TV1 and certain radio journos is they hate soccer maybe they see it as a threat to their beloved rugby so its never going to get a decent run unless sh*t happens. I know most of the newspaper football writers in this country are actually football fans, which is what is needed and what TV 1 and some ignorant radio shows lack.

Go the Whites, or is that Blues.

I've said it many times, but the problem is that a lot of the journalists have a vested interest in keeping r*gby's profile high, because if it were to drop significantly they would be out of a job.
I actually agree with the conspiracy theories regarding football's lack of coverage - there are a lot of people who are sh*t-scared of the game because if its profile increases they are hopelessly unprepared to cover it, and will therefore face redundancy.
I  feel that it is a case of doing whatever they can to keep football down. And if that means pretending to be enthusiastic about, say, netball, they'll do it.
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

Elrick was a disaster. Surely the time has come when we need to have experienced and trained broadcasters hosting football and leaving former players as comments men only. Could you imagine Sky putting murray mexted in as host for rugby. No. Just shows where football rates to them.
