Passing was poor in first half but tight defensively, however second half better passer but slightly less tight at the back (although nelsen did go off). MOTM - Chris James for me especially in the first half.

Much better second half. Good finishing and some very good passing moves put together by the lads.

Crowd looked alright, the Bloc looked alright, nothing spectacular. I think at this stage i'd rather see the game in Welly purely for the fact that i doubt we'd sell out at either NHS or Mt Smart and that would be a very poor effort for one of the most important matches in our footballing history.

Three for me, and two for them.

Thanks for the Stats  everyone. A great second half and the team trying to play some decent football. I hope the Nix players try and continue the trend this weekend. I wonder how cold it was up there for the game? Roll on Sunday.

James definitely MOM. Definitely one for the future.

first half was a bit average on our part -then I went out to indoor (where I cracked one from twenty yards to draw the game and win on pens) to see a different story. Missed two of the goals - but good controlled footy in the last twenty or so. Elliott and James were class (Si controlled the game where James has a bit of Bertosesque spark that we need). Smetlz was class again

Did I miss something or is Plodder better than Mulligan?

Crowd were quiet.

[i missed about 30min so this might all be wrong]

Did Brown get better?

Aggree he had a very good game, was all over the park and had some good touches. I though Elliot had a very good game as well, composed on the ball and some good vision with his passes.

Glad to see Tony get some good runs and a few crosses in, should do his confidence no end of good.
To be honest I don't think we were playing at full speed and could have stepped up if needed.

Based on that team and assuming Daniel does go for NZ citizenship then the mid field looks quite good if we qualify for 2010: Daniel, James, Elliot and Bertos across the midfield looks good to me.

I'd go for James or Smeltz as MOTM. James looked very sharp in the midfield and he has that creative flair that i thought was missing on Saturday. And Smeltz? If he can continue this form for the Nix i will be one happy man.

haha plodders goal was class

It's an easier game when you don't have muppets kicking lumps out of your ankles...

Anyway, Chris James was impressive, Smeltzy a legend as always, Elliott good, defence not really tested at all. New Caledonia, however, were woeful, and the disappointing bit for me was that in the first half we couldn't put together two decent passing moves, despite sh*tloads of space and time which we had. We only looked potent when James and Smeltz had the ball.

Second half better from us, we moved the ball around a lot better and passing was more accurate, but that was also greatly helped by New Caledonia who were amazingly enough even worse, they got very tired and ragged and their fullbacks went MIA, and they couldn't hold the ball for more than two passes. Their keeper was also badly caught out on the 2nd and 3rd goals, and probably should have done better with the 1st given that he got both hands on it. Top header from Smeltz though.

Loads of control and domination in the first half too from the All Whites.  Reminds me of the game between the Kings and Northern Queensland where the Kings were content to string them out and invite frustration, then ran away with it by four goals later in the match.
Christie has bulked out since the last time he was up here.
Elliot was on form too.
More praise than most for Mulligan as he was the one opening up Les Cagous (New Caledonian pidgeon, hey we're called Kiwis) on the right and sending the ball in.
A bit concerned that the AWs are  not tall at the back, which I take for granted at international level.  Still solid and safe.

Bloc 5 was brilliant. I can't wait for the playoff - Yellow Fever and Bloc 5 teaming up should be MASSIVE.

Chris James MOTM. Props to Ryan Nelsen for coming out of the dressing room to sign more autographs for the kids.

ask the players what crowd they'd perform better in front of Frank

There is good crowd noise there, I just spoke to Liz and she couldn't hear a thing as the lads were rattling through Sloop John B.

we'll if that is the case they must have crowd mikes turned down low, because on the video of our home games we sound a lot louder than that

Sly little digs. You never sing in unison and rarely vary your songs from the same old 3 or 4.

As for the crowd, i thought it was pretty accurate. Judging by what the NZK looked like with 2-3 k, it was busier than that downstairs, and I expect upstairs aswell. Plus, it was a Wednesday night, sh*t weather and a game that meant nothing in terms of the AW's. Decent crowd,  considering.

was there, mulligan is definately better, he was right infront of me in the 2nd half, and makes a heck of a lot of space, and a lot of the time he was wide open on the right without being passed to, he did well when he got the ball

It was bloody cold, a dead rubber, a Wednesday night, at White Elephant Lane, and with no promotion - it was a damn good crowd - and much better than turned up to watch the AWs in Wellington the last time they played, in a game that mattered.
No way do Wellington deserve the world cup game.
Worry about your Phoenix crowds before worrying about the world cup.

The Herald now says 7600 crowd.  Not bad for a Wednesday night.  Hands were frozen by the end of it.

I've been in 7-8000 crowds at NHS, and that didn't look close to that number.  There were (supposedly) 8,000 against Malaysia and last night looked no more than 2/3rds of that.

As for your statement Dai, if we based it on what A-League football gets in a city then we could expect 562 at North Harbour ?
