To be fair EG these are both young sides. The Chinese squad is mostly comprised of players in the CSL (although some of those have had experience in other leagues) and a fair whack of ours are A-League.

Both hardly leagues you would say would produce above average international sides.

But it will be interesting to see how both sides develop over the next few years. I suspect if China is able to stick to its development plan and get lots of international friendlies it will catch up to us in terms of rankings.

Our challenge is to get more players overseas (perhaps after a few years getting started in the A-League *looks at mini-Judas*) with regular game time. And make it to Brazil in 2014.

Does anyone knows who played for China in this game?
The NZ-Website shows only the NZ-squad.

I posted the starting eleven as tipped by the Chinese media a couple of days ago in this thread.

I missed the first half so don't know if it was true, but from the players on the pitch in the 2nd half it looked about right.

Subbed were the goalie ZENG (injured) by CHENG and in the 2nd half YAN Xiangchuang replaced by HAO Junmin.

Huge big stadium...what a sh*thouse pitch,  made Gold Coasts look not bad however I  digress, I believe that time has now come for management to get rid of the 3 up front of players who play pretty much the same style of football and revert to a style of football that doesnt involve hoofing the ball over the midfield to strikers who to be fair dont score a lot of goals at International level and maybe look into putting in the quicker more mobile players

Pitch is probably like that because China doesn't get much rainfall in winter (80% falling during a few months over summer).

Wouldn't think that watering a pitch during cold months with little plant growth would be a good use of water.

(Although Wuhan is central China so growth probably possible albeit slow)

It looked like a turf disease. Would have to assume it wouldn't be to a lack of water because they will have irrigation and there's no good reason not to use it.

Fuck this stupid game

Thanks for taking the time to do this Patrick. Was maddening trying to follow this game with my crappy internet speed. I gave up after 20 minutes, so nice to see some proper highlights.

Is Glen Hoddle a neo-Sky Sport commentator who got unceremoniously sacked for senile comments like that?

I wouldve much rather have seen Chinas other keeper Slip Lee Hans start in goal to be honest

Hans is German.

China beat Honduras 3-0. Makes me feel quite good about our result given Chinas recent run of good form

we would have beat Honduras 2-1 if it wasn't for Shame Smeltz

still I'm wondering how we would have fared against Japan.  Hope this game gets rescheduled soon.
