The Good: Judas 2; Siggy (forget last minute); Brockie
That's like saying Moss had a good game except for passing it to Kennedy for their first goal.

yea the commentators said he played in the states and found out he was a kiwi, nothing about western suburbs or the timbers whata moose dejong is
yeah and fact is he only just moved over there a year or two ago. NZF have known about him for some time. he's no mcglinchy/smith/reid find.
Reid and Smith were known for years by people who actually bother to take a solid interest in NZ football.
Yeah well Dewhurst is a muppet what do you expect?
We don't have anyone better. This is NZ.

I'd put Brown under The Ugly. Absolutely woeful. Apart from that I agree.

In terms of positives. We didnt look out of depth for most of the game. Two 3 - 0 losses against top 30 ranked opponents is far, far better than no games at all.
Also I'd wager a significant amount of $$ on our first choice team beating Australia's first choice team at this point in time (including injured and unavailable players).

Got to be realistic.
This is where we are and to move forward we need to play players like;
Boxall (Nelsen and Viscelich not around much longer)
McGlinchy/Kosta/ROJAS (we need technical players who can pass, dribble etc. NOT just kick people - Sigmund/Brown)
Wood (Killen and Smeltz not really good enough..)

I think the jet lag factor might have had a much greater impact on Siggy than Moss' incompetence

I'd take the mumified remains (if the French don't nick them) of Nelsen over Boxall..but apart from that I largely think you might be on to the smallest midfield ever to represent NZ Football

Positives? Definitely Brockie, Rojas, Sigmund again, a debut for Gleeson and Boxall. Thought Clapham looked reasonable too for the shortish time he was on.
Negatives? Brown, Smeltz effing awful, Killen anonymous again, not convinced about Fitzgerald, Moss.
And why did Wood get hauled off so early?
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

6 Moss - one mere of a mistake otherwise did fine.
6 Siggy - good strength, passing ok, shocking penalty.
6 Boyens - didn't give the ball away as much as usual. Dominated in the air.
7 Boxal - seems more than capable
9 Brockie - played out of position and was solid throughout. Made some good runs and defended well. MOM
6 McG - passing was off, tried hard.
3 Brown - you can't have your captain been invisible.
7 Kosta - worked hard but didn't create too much.
6 Wood - solid work rate (shouldn't be bagged as much, he's still only 20)
4 Smeltz - work hard poor touch throughout.
6 Killen - solid, but did nothing of note.
5 Clapham - passing was off, didn't work hard enough off the ball.
7 Fitzgerald - made a lot of tackles that needed to be made, passing was off though.
8 Rojas -great touches, good passing and running with ball. Would have been a different game had he started.
N/A Mulligan - should have replaced brown earlier.
6 Gleeson - didn't have to do much.
I thought we did ok but lacked someone in the middle to make things happen with McG playing wide. We hav some really talente player coming through who like the ball at their feet and to play quick 1 - 2 stuff but unfortunately we have a couple players not able to do that.
Would like to see Marco, Barbs and McG in the middle together at the same time.
Fitzgerald and Boxall are good additions and can play and Lochead may need to start worrying about his spot with Brockie.

We need to find a more visible holiding midfielder that Brown at international level. I really hope Keat can become that somebody (otherwise someone / anyone please be out there somewhere).
Brown was shocking both games.

Exactly what I was thinking. I think the future of NZF looks good if management get it right.

How does Boyens do so badly compared to the rest of the backline???
And Fitzgerald made a huge number of tackles and intercepts that saved a lot of potentially dangerous situations. He also looks to play it out of the back which is a huge positive.

While the scoreline makes everyone a bit angsty - I thought it was a decent enough effort, considering.
Marco looked gr8.
Our deficiencies tonight were obvious and to be expected (i.e., I don't know what Smeltz sniffed at halftime), but other than that - I'm OK.

you have to attribute blame for the first goal to moss for not clearing it first time, but he seemed surprised to have received the passback in the first place, which i thought is not the type of passback you would have expected to see from a defender. just an indication that, although brockie settled a bit later into the position, he was a fish out of water in the back four early in the game.

That 3-0 loss was a much better one than the 3-0 against Mexico. We actually looked dangerous at several parts of that game, and if our finishing had been up to scratch we could have pulled a goal back and make it 1-1 just after halftime. Would have been a very different game if that happened.

You have to be able to trust your Goal keeper though. Moss had a easy
chance to clear it first time and all would have been fine

true, and the goal was his fault because he didn't do that. no keeper in their right mind should have expected to have enough time to take a touch in that situation.

Highlight for me was Siggy's hit on Kruse. Clearly he knows how much we hate him.

The only thing I saw to be mildly happy about was how well Rojas played when he came on. With all of these highly touted strikers we can't score, a CB who would struggle in the NZFC and a captain that is invisible. We need to get some wins with this team before losing becomes a habit. There needs to be a realisation that we can't foot it against these higher ranked teams without Nelsen and start again with some lesser opposition.

A bit of perspective is needed - how many players do we have out at the moment?? How many players are in their off season and have been for a while??
Games like this looked in isolation do not tell a huge amount.
Look at the positives, our best players on the pitch tonight are all under 24 and moving forward thats a great thing especially when you factor Smith and Reid to come back into the mix aswell.

i was disappointed to see how pedestrian and lacking in skill we really looked. it was frustrating to see lazy, naive passes where a bit more speed and quality of the first touch, and some vision, would have seen better options in passing and going forward - actually doing something with the ball. and the complete lack of central midfield leadership was again a big undoing of the all whites.
we didn't play like a team ranked 60 in the world, more like 160.
