Just ran into 4 Bahraini players in town! No not literally and no I didn't go for the ankles.

The players included the right wing and well as the goal scorer in the dying moments of the deciding match against Saudi Arabia.

Really really nice guys and got a shirt signed from them too!!

Gosh I must be easy to win over as I now have a backup tam to support in 2010. While I totally want the AWs to do it, the alternaive wouldn't kill me.

Anyway heaps going on in town. Bahraini supporters drumming singing and dancing at one of the parks on Lambton Quay. Miles Davis live from 4Kings. What a city you guys have!

Pics tonight hopefully.

Lol, saw a couple when I was heading to indoor and asked if they wanted a game. They said no   but we won anyway. They were nice guys too. Had a chat crossing the road.

Its no longer a problem.

Man I have never had any interest in "celebs" and women's mags but man I fell head over heels for these guys. Really top chaps and my son enjoyed holding hands with one of them right to the hotel.

Big Bahraini contingent was at mosque at Kilbirnie for Friday prayer. Plenty of people in white (only we wore AW tops though) but found out those sheiks in white with black headpieces were part of the contingent!!

Asked the general secretary for an invite to training but was told closed session tonight. Fair enough. He tried to tell me last night was an open session!!!!!

Haven't seen any AWs around and got up here too late for their training sessions :(

Reminder - please don't be shy. Come over and say hi when you see the Bahrain's pain banner at the festival of football tomorrow at Queen's Wharf! See you there!!

And expect heaps of 3 News coverage tonight. You might see me too. And Stefan and (sorry don't know how to spell your name and don't want to screw it up) should be on too! 3 News reporter wearing Bahraini shirt (!).

They have been following me around today. Saw them when we met th players. Then on Lambton Quay at Bahraini cultural demonstration. Then they even went out to the mosque.

I am sure you guys will appreciate the 3 News effort.

I'll appreciate the Bahraini players tomorrow at about 10. Hopefully not 10.30.

Until then in my mind they are the enemy and shall be treated as such.

99.5 out of 10

Room for improvement:
- I said a TWO hour delay to allow me to arrive simultaneously with the team, not a ONE hour delay
- Pig headed security. He was a NZer so I guess we have to shoulder some of the responsibility.

Pics!!

Tallest guy is the reason we are playing a team in red, not green

Walking downtown in Wellington

Friday prayer at the mosque

RICKY!!! Fitting finish to the day - if you believe in omens this might suggest a barrage from the Bahraini team for 80 minutes only for Ricky to steal it out of the bag in injury time? Saves me taking my shirt off too! (though one of Ricky's mates suggested I wear a jumper or I might catch a cold - I told him we are built tougher in the deep south).

Level One History fail.

If you look at his other comments though, you will get it.
There is the chance that I'm still completely wrong and it is communism though.

I wonder about this too. Cos 3 News says they brought over specialist musicians but someone said drums are banned under some rules either of stadium and/or FIFA?

It would be awesome for them to bring there drums to create that football atmosphere. Add our chants. But stadium regulations say no

And some of the other guys in other threads said drums and musical instruments were allowed at ROF with Under 17 Womens World Cup last year. so i dont know...

drums are banned under stadium rules

this should be enforced

we had to put up with their ideal/accustomed version of noise over there - all we had to fight back was the manful lung power of Greenie, Frankie et al

FIFA are trying to screw us with away goals in extra-time

security do your thing -  keep those drums out!

No  Ahmed, FIFA did not oppose that, and you can see the music in the world championship under 17 years today.
But perhaps the stadium laws prevent that

Maybe you should speak before hand with stadium officials by giving them a call tomorrow. Just to check.

And what about that air horn at the nix matches recently (or is that not an instrument)?

Will take my ukelele tomorrow to test the rules.
