Ah well, a point is good considering. Three points here would have put us in with a better chance at the next round though... oh well. The dream's still alive!

I dunno, I almost feel as if we would have lost with 11 men.

Just feel gutted about that goal right at the end Stevo. Don't mean to sound negative it was a gutsy as hell performance but i'm sure even the lads themselves will be totally gutted to have let 2 points go right at the end.

Anyway onwards and upwards.

Three for me, and two for them.

As long as we do better than the Aussies I'm happy. Big ask I know... but it's possible! Our overage players are definitely hugely better than the guys Australia dredged up.

Tongue was firmly in cheek. Just remembered that English headline from the 98 WC and put a kiwi spin on it.

Oh, and if it was my brother, i wouldn't care less.

Calling someone stupid and insinuating they're unpatriotic isn't personal?

And Buffon, it's a good thing he's not your brother - he'll need all the support he can get right now, especially with 'supporters' like yourself.

Charlotte, you have to respect the right of the fans to assess the performance.  That's just the way it works at the top level, take the good with the bad.

Everyone knows he will be ten times more disappointed than we are, and we'll need him more than ever in our third group game, and he will have the backing of the fans 100%.  But tonight wasn't his finest hour and that is the hard truth

I do understand that - believe me, i do. I just don't believe calling a player stupid for what by many accounts was an unjustified red card is 'assessing the performance'.

The first yellow was a ridiculously bad call from a ridiculously bad ref (I realise this tournament's supposed to be about, ya'know, amateurs and whatnot, but who the f**k booked that clown and gave him a whistle?) and the second was really just bad luck. Worst still that it just had to happen to YF's favourite whipping boy...

Hmm.. two draws in two nights. We would have taken them both pre-kickoff, but with equalisers coming against us in the last 5 mins of both games, we're left thinking about what might have been.
On the positive side, they've answered those who questioned whether our football teams should go to Beijing, and again, as our footballers get more international exposure at U-17, U-20, olympic and senior level, the maturity to close out games like this will come. We just need to be patient.

I agree it was unfortunate that Steve was the player involved.

Get used to it, refereeing will be a big issue in this tournament when none of the best refs are there!!

<!-- bmi_SafeAddOnload(bmi_load,"bmi_orig_img",0);//--> right players wise!

i think it was a great effort.......but who individually stood out?????

Obviously Nelsen was a legend.
Elliott did a job
Killen.....Hmmmm...i wasn't impressed. Everytime he got the ball he just held it up...and then lost it.
Brockie...he deserved that goal. he has been scoring goals in the build up games too. but this was the first chance i have had to see him play for a while...he looked quick and really competitive...and what a great goal.

Spoonley..ok game...nothing great. nothing bad....did he look to short to you all??

who else stood out for you guys or was under par?

If we build it, they will come...

Spoonley too short? He's over 6ft.  Maybe if he was 7ft he might have the reach to save that header!

I had a hard job finding result and a writeup at 2.30am though..not on TVNZ website that I could find..finally found a good article on an overseas football site.

Great result..a win would have been better but it is all good steps in the right direction for the sports future...and World Cup 2010.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

Ahmad ?

It was obvious who FIFA wanted to win...

Apparently this is Michael Boxall's hand:

Alright.

If the stupid in this doesn't stop I'm closing it.

sl*gging off the whole of Yellow Fever because of a few individuals frustrations is inaccurate and wrong and not going to earn you or Steven any friends.  He got humped by the officials.

Anymore on this and I will delete the thread and we can start again.

Consider this a warning, I'm short on sleep and feeling Banny.

(I will add SOF that is only people who played at international level could comment on football then you'd be a bit short of forums to post).
