I don't want to see New Zealand get embarrassed at the Olympics. We need our best players playing, as this will ensure better results and possibly help others to stand out and get signed.

Why is he not there, Jacobs needs to get over their difficulties for the greater good of the New Zealand game.

With Keat ot also we are looking quite light in the midfield, bar for Peverly, Shaun V R issn't up to the standard we are going to come up against.

James non selection proves one of wo things either we don't care about winning, or Jacobs doesn't let things go or believe in second chances.

(Edit - fixed the title - HN)

Obviously he's not injured so he's avaliable fitness wise, so i can not see any reason why he is unavaliable, honestly who wouldn't want to play at the Olympics?

If anyone in the media cared about football in New Zealand. Isn't this the sort of question that would be asked? Why did we have to try and figure it out ourselves? Its bl00dy annoying!

The first time I saw Chris James play was when the All Whites drew 1-1 with Charlton Athletic. He was the stand out player for me in that game. It took me 10 mins to figure out who the new blonde headed kid with all the confidence was.

Who would he replace in the team?

I would replace all of the below for Chris James if I had my say.

Midfielders: Jeremy Brockie (Hawkes Bay United),  Craig Henderson (Dartmouth College), Cole Peverley (Hawkes Bay United), Cole Tinkler (Team Wellington), Shaun van Rooyen (Waikato FC).

Forwards: Costa Barbarouses (Wellington Phoenix), Greg Draper (Wellington Phoenix), Daniel Ellensohn (Team Wellington), Sam Messam (Hawkes Bay United)

Peverley and Tinkler play a defensive role that James could never do.  Just as an initial observation.

Oh wow, I've just figured it out... Fulham, London - Chris James... = LondonChris

You should change your name to TampereChris (kidding)

LOL. Actually my name is Chris James except James is my middle name.  I did how ever live in Fulham for 5 years and once tried to pass myself off as Simon Elliott so as to get into a nightclub in Chelsea. I think I got a 2 discount, but prob because the bouncer felt sorry for me.

I know that some of those players are defensive midfielders, just stating my opinon that I would still rather have one less defensive midfielder and Chris James in the squad.

i think Shaun Van Rooyen will do a good job, he is a good player, i wouldnt mind him and Peverly in midfield.

Cole Peverley has been one of the form players in the Napier team let alone the NZFC this year. He just has so much time on the ball, natural balance and makes players around him better. Apart from the occasional foul-in-dumb-position, I would think he would be an All White within 2 years if he continues his form. He deserved his place.

With China and Belgium in our group we need the very best that are available, as this might be our best chance in a generation to progress to the second round of a major tournament (China typically fold under pressure and Belgium are an unknown quantity).

I too would like to know why Chris James is not in the team, he has better credentials than any NZFC player.

I don't think it really matters who we have in the squad, its still going to take some pretty major upsets for us to beat the likes of China, Belgium etc. even at their worst they are probably 2 goals better than us.

Queenslander 3x a year.

I think that these questions need to be asked.

How is the apparent bright shining hope of NZ footy suddenly not good enough for our under 23 side?

How come Chris James can be selected for an All Whites squad for world cup qualifiers (against Fiji and Vanuatu last year) and not be selected for the under 23s?

How is a stand out performer against Costa Rica and Wales suddenly not as good as a bunch of young NZFC players?

I mean no disrespect to the players selected ahead of him, but this is a joke and an all too common occurance with New Zealand national team squads of late.

just a quick question - how many times have you seen each of these players, and Chris James, play in the last 2 years?

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked

Well if we eventually find a way to build a strong domestic league, then we wouldn't have to worry about losing players to overseas and have a strong local based squad. then we wouldn't need to worry about foreign clubs releasing our players. (gee sounds like a Rugby problem)

But one can only dream about it. . . well maybe for the next 50 years. . .

Fair point: I haven't seen the NZFC players because I dont live in NZ. I can only go off what I read on this forum and news articles.

I am basing my "personal opinion" on what I have seen of Chris James when I have seen him play which is probably twice in the last 2 years. Plus the fact he is a full time football professional and playing for a club that is a much higher standard than NZFC teams. Even in the Fulham Reserves games he had some reasonable mentions.

Well the Aussie Coach Pim says that even playing in a European League Reserves or second division is better than A-league standard. So you wouldn't be that far off.AllWhitebelievr2008-04-30 23:16:22

Has anyone seen Greg Draper play in the past year?

What is his case for being in the squad?

And he featured in the last Phoenix game of the season (or was it last two Phoenix games?).  And unless my memory decieves me he played against the Galaxy. loyalgunner2008-05-01 20:01:07

According to the Finnish Premier league site, if I can understand the translation correctly, he has played 5 times, 4 as sub and once starting and being subbed off, scoring 0 goals.

Didn't Chris James pull out of a tournament last year at very short notice.....Can't remember the details. Was it the under 21 WC?.Anyway if he did then he might have pissed someone off in NZFA. If he did'nt then I'm talking a load of bollocks.

It was the Under-20 World Cup, and I heard a reliable rumour that he made himself unavailable for the Olympics.
