Spot on, North and Thompson (yeah hasn't been in the last squads I know).  Both would walk into the AWs.

After the AW's at the WC, I doubt it.

Agreed. North is in no way better than the three defenders we employed at the WC and the current Archie isn't exactly streets ahead of Smeltz, Fallon or Killen (maybe Killen).

Three for me, and two for them.

Does anyone know when next year daniel will be eligible to represent the AW'S? I know that he arrived in wellington in 2007 but i don't know when he's going to complete the 5 years residency...

I just don't think Daniel is good enough. Nice guy and all but we have a large number of guys well ahead of him.

How good is it that we weren't saying that a few years ago. We've come a long way in a short time!

Allegedly

Well considering many of the european based players may not actually come back for the Oceania qualifiers there is every chance Daniel could be good enough

Fair point about player availability, although as a wide midfielder most/all of our players are not european based. But I guess if we did have extended injuries or players missing for other reasons he could at a stretch come into it. Does Lia become qualified at the same time?

Lia is ineligible for the All Whites, he has represented Australia at youth level and was not eligible to represent NZ at that time.

See Mikel Arteta case.

What about McGlinchey and  Fallon, Didn't they represent the Sweaty Socks and Poms at Youff Level??

Thats true, but due to where they were born, they were eligible at that time to play for NZ. Lia was ineligible to play for NZ at the time he played for Australia.

As an aside, I don't think Daniel is good enough regardless of who from Eurpoe may be un -available

The only other Phoenix player who could be eligible to represent the AW's in 2014 is Crowther if he stays in Wellington until the next WC... In the cas of Durante he cleary prefer to represent Australia...

Is he actually ineligible though? He didn't get on the field against Indonesia as far as I recall. Although he would prefer Australia he might not get picked.

Durante is ineligible at the moment, since, as far as I know, he doesn't have a NZ passport, and also doesn't fulfil the 5-year residence criterion.

However, should he meet both those criteria in the next couple of years, and not play for Australia in an official A international during this time, then he would be eligible for the All Whites.el grapadura2011-03-15 16:16:00
