Unfortunately she muddied her reputation a lot by getting very involved as an ambassador for the Qatar world cup - and when called out on it didn't backtrack. Sad and confusing.
Reality check on the task facing the Football Ferns at next year's World Cup. This is the Norway team who beat us reasonably comfortably 2-0 last month, absolutely taken apart by England. https://t.co/0aU18Z5ila

I'm pretty certain the uefa team in our group will beat us. I have a feeling we could end up looking like Mexico in their home 2022 concacaf championship, where the occasion and nerves got to them.

Don't forget England is hosting this tournament and there is a lot of expectation on them to do well, unlike the men. They are also trying to impress British male football fans who generally don't give a shark about this tournament or women's football in general.
So Mexico and the Philippines in the US then, these will be very interesting indeed.
The team has failed to show any improvements in attack at all since Klimkova replaced Sermanni. But this time the excuse of playing quality opponents (Canada, Australia, USA) is off the table, and there should certainly be games we expect to win.
Mexico are ranked 38 but were absolutely dreadful at the CONCACAF qualifiers (so won't even be at WWC23), while Philippines have had a steady rise but are still ranked 53rd and haven't beaten anyone of note.
IMO winning both games is the bare minimum, and ideally both are comfortable and we score 2+ goals in each. But ain't holding my breath.

If Mexico brings their U20 squad it will be a tough match
Can't understand why Grace Wisneski is not part of this squad. Best player by far in the under 20's from a constructive point of view. Workaholic midfielder but with an attacking mindset which so many of our current ferns lack. Need to get players like that in now or our world cup journey will fail miserably at the group stage.
Nothing on the Sky Sport TV Guide. That's pretty grim. How do NZF expect people to support there national teams if they keep not showing international matches.

Since these matches are on neutral territory it was expected, I think the Japan game in Japan will be broadcast
So the football ferns get a rare win 1-0 against Mexico. But no one in NZ could watch the the game...... One year out from a home world cup where local support will be called for by NZF.

Mexico chose not to broadcast it, probably due their elimination so this match was just played out of obligation.

Yeh I get that. Thats what we've been told. But it was played in LA not Mexico. Why didn't NZF provide a stream for there fans. Opportunity lost for little effort in my view. The game was filmed. Apparently we are getting a highlights package some time. Edit. Frustrating thing for me is that this is not a one off. NZ Internationals not broadcast. Just recent games. NZ men v Oman. NZ U20 Women. 2 games v Australia. {Played in NZ) NZ U20 women. 2 world cup warm up games. vs Costa Rica and Brazil. and now add to that NZ women vs Mexico.

And all of those are friendly matches. And all but 2 are just age group teams friendly matches. The entitlement to be able to watch every friendly warmup practice match is nuts.
Also sounds like todays' match not being streamed was not NZFs fault, rather Mexico.

It has to be realised that women's football has quite a low status in most Latin American countries, including Mexico. Hence the lack of TV coverage of the Mexican women. The good performance of the Mexican u-20 women at the recent World Cup was achieved against the odds really. The Mexican men would only have to schedule a training run to get on TV. Brazil has been the only country with a decent women's football national side in Latin America until recently (CONMEBOL and CONCACAF) Colombia has made some progress in recent years. Even the Brazilian women's national team players have complained of very low pay (barely enough to live on) and poor conditions over the last decade. Sometimes we forget that women's team sports have a much higher status in Australasia, Europe and North America than most of the rest of the world. (More room for progress in the affluent west too of course but it's all relative) Papua New Guinea, ranked #49 and the second highest-ranked in Oceania, are ahead of all but five teams in CONCACAF in the FIFA rankings and ahead of all but four teams in CONMEBOL. NZ at #22 are ahead of all but Brazil in CONMEBOL and ahead of all sides except USA and Canada in CONCACAF. It has always been thus. CONMEBOL WOMEN FIFA RANKINGS: 9 | | Brazil | 1975.82 | 1973.86 | 1.96 | 25 | | Colombia | 1700.4 | 1690.58 | 9.82 | 31 | | Argentina | 1660.37 | 1641.82 | 18.55 | 39 | | Chile | 1580.9 | 1627.13 | -46.23 | 51 | | Paraguay | 1510.53 | 1489.74 | 20.79 | 52 | | Venezuela | 1494.4 | 1460.63 | 33.77 | 65 | | Ecuador | 1377.83 | 1372.8 | 5.03 | 68 | | Uruguay 74 | | Peru | 1334.47 | 1377.1 | -42.63 | 98 | | Bolivia

Mexico has a pretty good women's league which is broadcast on TV and played in the stadiums and is attracting some big names from abroad, unlike anything here in New Zealand, it's just their senior national team that needs fixing.
One of the better players in the Peru National Women's team plays keepy uppity at traffic lights in Lima, busking for extra cash.
Source?
An article I read online a few months ago. Google is your friend. They started their first National Women’s League this season in Peru
Those local fans I asked out of interest have never even heard of Marta. Latino societies are very “Machismo”. Female equality has a very long way to go in that part of the world
NZF passing the buck for not managing to set up a tripod... People are interested in these games and age group games. The die hards would watch it from 1 angle with put commentary. If it's being recorded any just stream on you YouTube channel like Petone and NCR every week.
Only take aways from a few twitter posts. Vic Esson with another clean sheet following on from the last game. Longo subbed after 20 odd minutes. Injury or tactical. Injury I suspect? Second half subs were mainly defenders on and attacking players off. Assume that Bott and ??? got pushed forward ? That's why Bott was high up the pitch to score the winner.
PS. After Katie Bowen making herself not available for these games. Club commitments one presumes as NCC have a game today. Katie Bowen not in match day squad for NCC.
