Why no Emma Main? And what about Aimee Phillips she was overseas playing pro now back in NZ and has played for the Ferns in the past. Otherwise seems like a pretty good group. Certainly more players to choose from than at any other time in our history and we will have the answer as to how good a coach she is after having them in camp for 8 weeks. That is longer than preseason for some clubs. Even if the starters are likely to only have a couple of weeks together before the tournament the group should be pretty clear on how she wants them to play by the end of the camp. Looking forward to that last friendly before the WWC

Not half!
8 weeks, 40 odd players, plus all the associated support staff.
Id say its nothing short of incredible.
Im all for developing the womens game, but considering there is next to zero chance of getting out of the group....

40 players is a lot. Surely at this point you'd have it narrowed down a lot more than that.  They'd be better off having less players and using the budget on some quality coaches.

I imagine FIFA will be paying alot of the cost, as they do for mens teams that qualify for a WC. Something like $1M solely to be spent on each team's build up, before the tourney itself.

Also there is only 15-20 players currently in camp? That enable Klimkova to pretty much run a 'game day' squad for these pratice games they are having against boys teams. Sounds like first bunch of players will be cut by early June (about 5 weeks in), as more 1st choice senior players arrive. Like Edwards, Sheraf will likely be cut once Esson & Leat arrive.

Furthermore injuries in the WC are inevitable, so if you have players on standby in NZ, who have benefited from being in the large camp earlier that's handy.

I think its 40 players because of the staggered arrival of those that still have club commitments in Europe and USA. What's wrong with bringing in the fringe players to fill out the numbers while others are yet to arrive?

Surely assembling 40 players at home for a training camp is the lowest cost that it will ever be. This is probably the best value for money training camp ever. Future first team players get to see what the environment is like, and what the level is that they need to reach. The coaches- not just Jitka get to spend decent length of time assisting the players with technical skills and they all get exposed to different training methods and coaching than they have at their club sides. Jitka was also saying that on most tours they only get 3 or so low intensity sessions on the grass as they have to allow for travel fatigue etc and seems like she doesn’t feel like she was able to really get the team to play how she wants them to. So she has been given every opportunity to get them revving for the last game and it should be easier to continue the momentum with the newly arriving players when they come in later stages. I’m sure they are all getting tactical information to study whilst they are still at their clubs overseas before they come into camp. Looking forward to a great performance in that last game before the main event.

full of hyperbole but just look at some of the dick comments on it from boofheads.

As I type this at work at LHR, ITV is talking to the England ladies captain who can't wait to get downunder and do England proud.

The UK is really up for this WC.  I hope NZ is too!

When do the last of the ferns come into the training camp? All the English and Scottish seasons are finished now? Scandinavian leagues have 1 or 2 games left and then is it just Ali Riley from the states? Any news on injured player progress? Percival, Longo, Chance, Moore? Are they back trail now in full capacity?

Ali Riley, Jacqui Hand, and Erin Nayler the late arrivals around time of Vietnam friendly.

Otherwise all those you name presumably are in camp training. Longo probaly a longshot, but the others all likely fit enough to be picked. Moore with a back injury maybe a question mark. Percival got some WSL mins before the season finished. Klimkova has said Chance will be good to go.

NZ Herald has an interesting understanding of the term "open letter". Seems their prices have come down slightly at least, last time I subscribed the standard rate was something like $7 a week. $1.50 quite reasonable.

Alfeld still injured? Edwards will have to grow a foot to be an international keeper, surely.
I dont know much about Blake but Rolston is still in there, which is surprising.

Yeah I'm not sure why Alfeld was even included in the camp. Think Sheaff has been carrying an injury too, hence Edwards still there while they wait for Nayler to arrive.

Ferns WWC warm up game is against Vietnam.
They just had a friendly against Germany.
image.png 3.17 KB

Not a bad result for Vietnam. Germany for me are one of the favourites to win the WC. So looks like Vietnam are no easy beats and should be a stern test for the Ferns.
Edit. Does look like a bit of a second string Germany team.

Definitely a second string German side, Vietnam also lost to Poland U23s 2-1 recently.

We need to beat them and hopefully comfortably.
