That is a great result. The country should hear of this and be able to support the team some how....
But has anyone heard through other mediums (other than Yellow Fever) that the women won and seen any highlight or coverage from the game??

It is strange, but I only just clicked this is the full top womans side. Which makes it even more significant.

I think I was just getting confused because I was thinking of them as the Olympic squad, but remembered that the olympic squad is the full womans national side.

I guess they will get loads of fifa ranking points for that win too. Especially being in a tournament. i.e. not a friendly.

If we build it, they will come...

If you'd care to go to what should be your first stop for NZ women's soccer news,  www.sportswebsoccer.com, TRex, you'll find there's been a whole raft of stuff posted on there.

If you check each story, you'll find details of how you can watch the action live on the net in one of them. Note that it's only good value if you've got a fast connection speed. (Otherwise it's akin to pressing the pause button constantly while watching a video!!)

You'll also find a pile of info on www.ultimatenzsoccer.com in the morning, once I've managed to update everything I need to tonight (read by 4am tomorrow, which will give me about 3 hrs for sleep  ahead of another full day at the office ...).

If you want to send the squad a message of support, head to www.nzsoccerscoreboard.com for the details.

Cheers,

JR

Why is there a second thread on the football ferns? Can't we all get along in the other one?

I refuse to eat snaggs, unlike some people we know at BBQs.

As for the Ferns, there perfomance has been so great its a shame that NZF will have to cut there budget/spending on them.

Convict, let's revisit your last sentence in about a week's time, once the squad is back home and a certain announcement has been made ...

Hi Convict,

I'm not saying anything about a Women's National League at all. The topic you raised was to do with the Football Ferns, and reduced expenditure on their activities. My response was in relation to that.

Mine was also a deliberately neutral response. It would be inappropriate for me to provide any details, as they should emanate from NZF first and foremost, not me.

Be patient - the news will be well worth the wait, believe me!

Hiya TRex,

www.ultimatenzsoccer.com has been on the go since December 2001, while www.nzsoccerscoreboard.com followed three months later.

SWS is an offshoot of www.sportsweb.com - I'd fired through so many soccer stories for publication on that site over the years (since at least 1997) that the website controller decided to set up www.sportswebsoccer.com around 2003, so all my soccer stories would be readily located in one place for people to read, rather than all over the place in Sportsweb.

We get quite a good readership - up to 5000 unique visitors each month and up to 100,000 hits each month.

Incidentally, www.sportswebsoccer.com has received accreditation from FIFA and the IOC for sport specific coverage of the upcoming Olympic Football Tournaments. However, attendance at same isn't a happening thing at the moment, due primarily to funding concerns - if I don't have the dough, I ain't gonna go!!

Needless to say, I certainly won't say no to anyone willing to come up with a short-term sponsorship for SWS to greatly assist with funding my Olympics coverage. I can be contacted via any of the above sites.

Cheers,
