Is there a thread open involving discussion about the national football governing body's pathetic lack of publicity and organisation to bring supporters to the match tonight.....????

etc ...

Excellent post and spot on.

This was an opportunity absolutely wasted to build on the momentum and spread the football word.

One might cynically suggest that it was just an attempt to fleece the core of loyal support that is forming in Wellington.

I really enjoyed the match, but a really poor job by NZ Football in their role to develop the game in NZ.

Pity.

I know, I know, its serious!

Less than a Phoenix game!

Clearly the game could have been better marketed.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

It isn't up to standard one bit, and it reeks of typical anti-football sentiment that some of the controlling forces in the organisation probably harbour. I think serious explanations need to sought and someone account for the pathetic scenario. They may as well have played at Wakefield Park. Here we are in a country and city where we are tryting to poush the football experience as we know it to be, to the average person who has never been to a professional football match. We are trying to better the status and quality of the game in this country, and we are again treated to something like a 3rd division NPC (or whatever) non-spectacle with no atmosphere, pre-match, kids football stuff, etc etc etc. Not good enough. Is this really what we expect professional football in Wellington to be....??

I went to see the Queensland Roar v Melbourne at Suncorp last Friday in front of 17,000 passionate fans in their Roar shirts, chanting and getting hugely excited about what turned out to be a great game.

Soccer NZ are not in danger of letting the same sort of vibe happen here at this rate.

Yep, agree with this completely.

I'm a rugby refugee left annoyed and agitated by the limp state the game in this country is in, and after tagging along to a couple of Phoenix games, I'm officially hooked on the sport of football. It's got everything I want in a sport - speed, skill, grace and guile - and I'm stumped as to why I ignored it for so long. Hell, my early Sunday mornings consist of watching the premier league now, regardless of what pisshick team is playing - I'm just fascinated by this sport, and I can only feel that growing.

So, if a guy like me who has wined and dined on 22 years of rugby can be converted over to the beautiful game on the back of a few "WHO ARE YA'S?" and "WELLINGTON IS WONDERFUL!" then Joe Blow sportsfan must be able to as well.

BUT IT'S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN IF NZ FOOTBALL DON'T TAKE A PUNT ON THEIR OWN PRODUCT!

Okay, sure, it was just Vanautu (Vanau-who?), but scheduling an international match on a weekday at a time most people would find difficult to get to, what with work and everything, at an insultingly expensive price ($22+ service fee, right?) without even going out to cash in on the exposure football is enjoying at the moment, is a recipe for lameness and low crowd numbers.

Take a punt on your product, NZ Football. Take a punt on this city.

No advertising, delayed coverage on TV 1, unless you paid $200+ for their Free View box! What a crock, If that was the All Blacks or the Netballers playin' Vanawatu it would have been live on sky and promoted heavily for weeks beforehand. There's more LA Galaxy stuff around, I saw no AW stuff at all. Shame on NZFC for not making the most of an awesome opportunity to kickoff a months worth of awesome footy.

Why are you and many others maoning about the cost of getting Freeview yet are happy to pay for Sky? It sounds just like the bitching that went on years ago when Sky just started and you had to pay to watch sports.
Its called competition, get over it.

Chanting like referee is w**ker ETC.

1st In fact thoose *() stupid kids should learn no to do that.
2nd Ref has every rights to STOP the game for racist etc chanting, insulting opposit team violent crowd behavior etc.

If he ref puts it in his report of the match NZ could be fined, as disciplinary.
Depending on what have been done, Like whenTurkey insulted Swiss players FIFA can take away the home games to netural venue overturn result.

I have only see the 2nd half (live) but the referee was OK  whatsoever.

It is bloody annoying chanting ,in fact it was childish.

One thing making noise, the other thing to make stupid noise. It should not be done ex when your team is up 3 goals and playing all right.

Support your own team.

What are you talking about....?

What are you on about?
I thought the chanting was fine...?

The referee was a w**ker, doesn't hurt to tell him so.

Happy with competition, not overly happy with having to fork out $200+ for another box to watch a "free" channel - its not free when you have to pay to get access, I'm happy paying for sky cos I know I have to pay to use the service.
