With the current desert of fixtures for the All Whites, and important dates this year including the Nations Cup in May/ June and World Cup Qualifiers after - a thread for players who you've noticed, are eligible to play for NZ, in different leagues who you think should get a shot at representation for our national team.
Getting Noticed - Prominent Players around the World who could represent
Watching A-League last night Brisbane v Newcastle
Mitch Cooper: 21, Plays for Newcastle as a AM/Striker?. Scored, could bring more of a physical presence to the midfield than what we currently have in the AW's. Played U17s for Australia but lived in NZ previous so still eligible (confirm). Has had knee injuries in the past.

Just lived in NZ? Was he eligible to represent NZ at the time he represented Australia at U17 level?

At the age of 8, he moved from Vanuatu to Auckland, New Zealand. When he was 13 he moved with his family to Australia and settled on the Sunshine Coast.[6]

Eligibility still an unknown.

Monty Patterson is injured. It was some time ago but IIRC it was quite serious

Not someone I would have had picked to plump for him but hey
Think they're up to it? Say why.
Think they're up to it? Say why.
Well not now considering injury, but when Monty Patterson had a run in U-23 and U-20 World Cup, I thought he was class on the pitch and could prove to be a lethal player right behind Wood if developed and integrated into the All Whites set up.
Dylan Burns was just a name I threw out, ill be honest about that.
Ben Mckendry just interests me.
Its like when we heard of Henry Cameron, Themi and Ben VDB, you get curious of those players on whether or not they will be good enough to fit into the squad.
Hence why I chucked question marks on all their names. I was literally just chucking names out there.

Look like his eligibility rests on his parentage.

Well I'd say he would be given an exemption like so many other guys recently as he lived here for 5 years for non-footballing reasons, so you would assume he'd be eligible a-la Tommy Smith. EDIT yeah never mind.. forgot Smith played for England in 2007 when the eligibility rules were different - he was eligible under the old rules to play for NZ at the time. You're right it entirely hinges on his parents or grandparent, unless exemptions can be given retrospectively...
McKendry has a two year MLS contract with Vancouver. Was player of the year when loaned down to USLPro VWFC2. Are there any other Kiwis with an MLS contract?

Must have Australian parent/s - wikipedia lists him representing Australia at u17 lvl - he would not have had time to even get Australian citizenship

Yes,
Kip Colvey at San Jose Earthquakes. Jake Gleeson at Portland Timbers.James Musa trialled at Chicago.

Actually, only Gleeson has a contract. Colvey has been picked in the draft and now he's trialling at San Jose Earthquakes (just like Andrew Bevin with Seattle Sounders last year) and Musa's trial only lasted a few days because of an injury, he's back at Saint Louis.
Doesn't Tony Lochead still have an MLS contract even though no club wants him on the roster?
Only professional to play for that foundry of all whites, unattached FC.
Quite right - I forgot about Jake Gleeson.

No not anymore. He wasn't picked up (unsurprisingly) in the Re-Entry draft:

Jai Ingham's mum is from NZ, so would be eligible to play for us, Aussie, and Samoa - don't know if he is any good, and we do seem to comparatively well stocked on the wings, but might be someone to keep an eye on?

Ingham moved to Brisbane to play when he was 16. His mum is born in New Zealand but has Samoan background and he is looking to emulate cousin Jonny Hall and one day represent the island nation.
Bit derogatory calling us an island nation ;-)
Plays for Melbourne Victory.
Has done some handy things.
Taller than our other wing options.
Shane Viitakangas - Gold Coast City FC - 20 or 21yo keeper, bit of a mountain by the looks off it
Omar Abdigafar - previously Green Gully SC - 18yo attacking midfielder, seems to have disappeared this season seems to be at the WeeNix?
Joseph Champness - Brisbane Roar Youth - 18yo forward
Charlie Devereux - Australia U17 attacking mid
Jai Ingham - Melbourne Victory - 22 yo winger
Tom Walters - Norwich City Academy - 18yo holding midfielder
Rosie Missen - West Ham Ladies - midfielder (a gentleman never asks a lady her age, by heavens!)

Abdigafar Omar...yea I know him, he used to live in Hamilton (we used to call him Abdi-G)...Somali, very good player
Patrick Izett, Vancouver Whitecaps Residency U18s, 18 yo attacking mid/forward. Mum is born in NZ

You are probably thinking about Omar Guardiola, he is Colombian, but was living in Blenheim and has played for Nelson Falcons (2 spells) and Heartland Wairarapa in the youth league, now with Lower Hutt

Rob Pickstock at NZF got back to me after I emailed him about these players - good news is that NZF are already aware of these guys (plus others mentioned on this site), so it's good news that their scouting network is pretty efficient.
This from a man who thought Wynne met FIFA eligibility? I wouldn't believe a word he says. I

Apparently, two of the lads from Western Pride, the team that the All Whites will face in build up to the OFC nations cup are eligible for NZ.

Not sure if useful or good enough to play for NZ. Just something I found. Thought I would share.
Cactus Jones you are the man, now we know the real reason why we turned down Russia to play some crap Australian team. Contact time serving as a trial to find our next big thing!!
CEO all is forgiven, you can come out from hiding under your bed now. brilliant

His brother Dane Ingham plays for Brisbane Roar Youth so also eligible for NZ.
We've got the makings of a decent team here....
