wow bit premature.  Surely you'd want to see what our team will be like in 2-4 years

where is the not qualify option?

Not saying I think that will be the case, but surely you have to have it as an option

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

good point, I just added it in. (I swapped it for 'Save of the Tournament' because that's not really a proper goal that you can aim for anyway)

Not as a "goal" though frankie. i hope not anyway!

yes, he caught me out with that just now! so I changed it again to 'Not qualify but play well in qualifiers.'

so at least 14 people think that beating the 5th best team in Asia is not a realistic goal for the All Whites?!!

it is not what you would bet money on happening, it is what is a realistic goal

and another 3.

I would have thought that after the great performances at the WC people would be more positive about the future, but obviously not.

This country doesn't deserve a good national football team.

I'm pretty sure the people voting for 'not qualify' are just sheep brained munters who don't actually have the independence of mind to consider the question that's being asked.

If anyone who voted for that option can make a case for it, then lets hear it.

Whoever set up the vote set it up as a multi vote, so some clown thinks its hilarious to put lots of votes on the troll option.

It hugely depends on the group draw (if we qualify), but I think a realistic goal is to look towards qualifying for the second round - its the next step from what we achieved this year.

I thought multivote meant that you could vote for more than one option, not that one person could vote more than once.

well good evening

Rojas/McGlinchey/Clapham/Wood/Killen/Barbarouses/Brockie/Bertos/Daniel waltzes through the entire German team and finishes with his heel for goal of the tournament
You know we belong together...

If FIFA keeps that route again for Oceania is not a certainty. It was changed after 2005.

We're still quite a way away from being certainties to qualify (we seem to fail to remember that the Bahrain qualifier was very touch and go), so clearly the number 1 goal has to be actually qualify.

Once that's (hopefully) achieved, then you worry about the rest.

Agree that we were touch and go against bahrain. But I think now we are miles ahead of where we were back then.
But yeah qualifying is the goal

But for 2014, there'll be no Elliottt, probably no Paston and Nelsen, and Smeltz/Killen/Fallon/Bertos/Brown will all be in their 30s.

So it will be a very different team to what we have now.

Ok this is slightly off topic but what mid fielders do we have coming through with real potential?

Hard to tell.  Remember that 4 years ago we had no Reid, Smith, Wood or McGlinchey.

Anyone could appear (or change nationalities) in the meantime.

To qualify again would be awesome.  Kosta/Woods/Smeltz/Reid/Nelsen/Smith + a dozen 'eligible for NZ' players discovered by Gourdie/TV3 plz.

qualifying has to the minimum goal, not sure why you'd even bother if that wasn't the target, after that its to secure the first win in the tourney.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Goal for 2014? Win it. Bring the World Cup to New Zealand. If we're not there to try and win, we might as well not show up.

Now, if you were to ask for a realistic expectation for 2014, that's a different story...
