This whole 'stadium rules' business has got out of hand, and someone needs to look at it.

According to this news report ( http://www.stuff.co.nz/4746857a18075.html ) schoolkids were not allowed to take ANY food into the stadium.

For a one-off soccer game, maybe some restrictions are necessary.

But when people are attending all day or prolonged events like this , then you have to allow people to take in their own stuff, partcularly kids.

Looking at the sh*t that is dished up in the stadiums, they should wonder that people attend these events at all.

As for hiding behind the "we are a licensed premises" argument, whats that got to do with a kid taking in a banana sandwich? Jeez.

A subject close to my heart. I woder how often someone from the health department actually eats Westpac stadium burgers or hotdogs on a stick??

As for kids with their sandwiches etc, who cares? Let them take their munchies in. A banana sandwich is a lot more healthier than some stadium food without question.

You are quite correct, it's aboyut time stadiums, namely Westpac Stadium address the food and drink issue. Either sort that crap served up out  or allow people to bring in their own. What adult in their right mind would expect a kid to drop a bottle of fizzy in one hit? Give them their bottle caps back!!

During this tournement FIFA advertised and approved menus have NOT been available, surely FIFA have chased that issue up or is it just lip service??

I say the school were the idiots. They HAD to know that food wasnt allowed to be taken in,yet they sent a newsletter out to everyone saying to bring packed lunches. THEY made their own kinds go hungry.

As much as the rule sucks, they knew in advance, and if they didnt, theyre stupid

Agreed, the school made an error.

But if I was a teacher, I wouldnt be happy taking a whole pack of kids out for many hours with no food or drink with them either. Thats ludicrous.

Neither would I as a parent, teenagers okay, but not younger than this.

I think the point really is are stadiums being reasonable with their restrictions ir are they just alienating the supporters that pay their wages ?

School definately made a stuff up here, they were notified by the stadium about the rules. They stadium could have made a concession though and allowed the food in, as hapopened in Wellington. Sad thing is - its the kids that suffered, noone else.

Its to do with the sponsors. like coke etc pay 50million a year to fifa for the rights, so if pepsi begins to wonder in then it collides with the sponsors. In this case there maybe no branding, but it still has issues.

ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

So which sponsor provides jam and treacle sandwiches and packet of rice crackers?

Drinks bottles I can understand cos they could be lethal weapons .
But no-ones ever been killed by a sugar sandwich.

Its corporate sell-out at the expense of the punters, and the punters will vote with their feet if officials dont take notice

It would have been nice if the various stadia supplied the menu advertised by FIFA as healthy for fans.

I was talking to one of the serving wenches on Sunday about the caps on bottles thing.  She also thought it ridiculous.  Subsequently my seven year old demanded to know why there wasn't a cap on her bottle and needless to say then spilled the lot before she could drink it and was very upset!  The catering lady also told me FIFA had apparently demanded that the caterers put the sauce on the hot food themselves because they didn't want the branded sachets in the stadium presumably because Watties haven't paid for the privelege of having their sauce eaten.  You can't make this stuff up really can you?  Fortunately the caterers stood their ground and commonsense won.

To be fair this is exactly the kind of stuff that will be going on in 2011. It is good we are getting used to it and getting our stadiums trained before the big show

Getting used to selling crap food? They've been doing it at Westpac since the day it openned. I wonder how often any of the Stadiums trustees actually try eating all the foood types down in the working mans area instead of in a Corporate Box?

This is exactly the sort of crap that the punters will tire of, and not bother going.
