Here's my take on the situation, for what it's worth.
Some good reasons have been given for the WCQ to come to Wellington...AW's from here or playing in the Nix, outstanding football supporters group with YF, largest available venue, central location for all New Zealanders etc.
We're privileged and thankful its here so we can enjoy the occasion and, hopefully, celebrate a rare and special moment of NZ sporting history.. with fellow NZ football followers..at home in Wellington.
Home of NZ Football?..dunno.
Although this discussion may have started as a baiting exercise, particularly to you Aucklanders from some of us Wellingtonians, I think NZ Football has so little in the coffers relocation shouldn't be a priority...well, just yet.

The "Full House" sign at the RoF means the coffers might get a healthy injection as ticket monies come in... there's potential for an even healthier dose if the AW's win.
In 3 weeks and 3 days, Football in NZ may have its very best opportunity in 28 years to promote itself. All those years ago it was away in Singapore. This time it's here at home.
The Bahrain away game drawn result means a very lively home encounter with everything on the line and huge local interest.
Unprecedented media attention, focussed on NZ football, began in the lead-up to that away game in Manama, has continued with the surge in ticket sales to the lightning quick sell-out at the stadium and extra seating/no extra seating discussions in recent days.
If I were NZFootball, I'd be keeping the media football " in the air" ...
.e.g. press releases re: the official stance on ticket scalping on Trademe...who'd have thought $300 for a couple of $39 tickets ..in NZ!
Keep the momentum and media attention high leading up to the game.
And what about afterwards? Here's hoping NZFootball are organised to capitalise fully on the opportunity this time.
My fantasy list if the AW's win.....
NZFootball announce a fantastic set of fixtures, against quality teams, both in NZ and away for the AW's, leading up to South Africa, including a home and away, NZ v Australia series..which we win!..and guess who we get to play,.. and beat..in the World Cup in South Africa!!??
NZFootball also announce some big hitting sponsorship(s) that will
a) take the AW's to South Africa and beyond...
b) fund a full NZFC, that includes the Nix reserves (if they aren't already in the A-League youth comp)
The Nix push on from the huge surge in football publicity in Wellington with record crowds, excellent results and finals playoffs..this leads to ...
Simultaneous successful bids from fully-funded Auckland and Christchurch A-League syndicates that lead to almighty Kiwi derby clashes between NZ based clubs...
All Kiwi kids put their AW heroes right up there with the AB's, Kiwi Olympian Gold medallists, Sir Ed et al.
One day we all look back to a time when it all started with a game in Wellington...
...and
Football could call NZ "Home".
Sigh.
