What times did both matches start?

You'd probably have the same poor crowd if you had a 530pm start at North Harbour Stadium.

Same thing, point still stands.

What point  ?  That Wellington got 2.5 times what Auckland did the last time the All Whites played Vanuatu there ?

The point that Auckland, a commonly agreed upon place of failure, still managed to show Wellington up considerably which makes me question the notion of Wellington being the football capital of NZ.

And all that stuff about Christchurch.
All I said about CHCH is that I wish the AW's would play here again, the rest was about Wellington.

Is it just me or is yellowfever.co.nz going very, very, very slowly.

Oh yes, about that Vanuatu game....we're you watching Home & Away???
Oh please, I've been in a crowd of less than 1000 watching New Zealand play Oceania opposition at North Harbour.  2002 Oceania Nations Cup.  Tahiti, PNG and the Solomons.  In fact the Semi, also against Vanuatu but at Mt. Smart had less than 1000.  The other semi-final had about 150 at it - Australia vs Tahiti.

Even the final against Australia barely broke 4000.
Carefully now, DKP22...come 14/11 you'll probably be standing next to some of our Northern friends in the Zone..we'll all be in it together, won't we??...

...or are we just letting them in on a weekend pass!!

Considering I bought his ticket and the ringleaders of Bloc 5's tickets he'll DEFINITELY be standing with visitors from Auckland.

True but I also remember being at North Harbour in 98 where people were turning up in their thousands to watch those World Cup Qualifiers with 25k turning up for the match against Australia.

You can't make the argumnent based on a single game of football.  The crowd for the vanuatu game was poor but as has been discussed a million times there were issues with both the pricing and the kick off time, and ignoring those doesn't give a fair picture .  The Chch crowd for the Malaysia game was really good and they probably deserve more matches at other times (not that we ever get any matches in NZ but the points stands).  Whether bolstered by outsiders or not Wellington has managed to pull the biggest crowds in recent years.  Whether that makes it the home of football is a matter of opinion not fact.

How ?

I don't remember there being a New Zealand vs Malaysia game in Wellington ?  How do we know how many might have turned up for that ?

All you can look up are comparable games and the last time New Zealand played Vanuatu in Wellington they got 2500 vs 1000 (estimated) in Auckland.  Likewise the last time New Zealand played Australia in Wellington it drew 19,500 vs 4,000 in Auckland.

Your stats aren't adding up.

Compare the crowds for the first football kingz game in Auckland and Wellington.

Wellington wins by about 5000 for an Auckland based team, I think Wellington wins this battle.

I remember that.I just thrust 10 dollars in a stewards hand and walked in. That crowd was totally unexpected.

Not even close.

Asian opposition with large local population and following vs Island Nation most people couldn't find on a map let alone name a town in.

Your average kiwi probably couldn't find Malaysia on the map or name a town there either.

Overall point, Wellington has only proved that it's better than Auckland football-wise and as such can hardly claim to be football capital of NZ.

And yes, to the last guy, ofcourse I picked and chose.  I made that quite clear.  I gave an example from recent history.

Dunno, I think a few people might have heard of Kuala Lumpur (or are you going to say that's not a town 'cos it suits your argument)

...and let's not even compare Beckham games shall we

Absolute rubbish.

There are at least 5 more pointless arguments going on on this forum alone.

Pukekohe IS the home of NZ Football.

....and before anybody says I'm being stupid, remember I didn't start this thread

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

One thing is for sure. If we joined the Asian Federation The home of Football would have to be moved to Wellington or the All Whites would find themselves playing in front of an away crowd at home games

I disagree.

Care to take the argument to its own thread?

Here's my take on the situation, for what it's worth.
Some good reasons have been given for the WCQ to come to Wellington...AW's from here or playing in the Nix, outstanding football supporters group with YF, largest available venue, central location for all New Zealanders etc.

We're privileged and thankful its here so we can enjoy the occasion and, hopefully, celebrate a rare and special moment of NZ sporting history.. with fellow NZ football followers..at home in Wellington.
 Home of NZ Football?..dunno.

Although this discussion may have started as a baiting exercise, particularly to you Aucklanders from some of us Wellingtonians, I think NZ Football has so little in the coffers relocation shouldn't be a priority...well, just yet.
The "Full House" sign at the RoF means the coffers might get a healthy injection as ticket monies come in... there's potential for an even healthier dose if the AW's win.

In 3 weeks and 3 days, Football in NZ may have its very best opportunity in 28 years to promote itself. All those years ago it was away in Singapore. This time it's here at home.
The Bahrain away game drawn result means a very lively home encounter with everything on the line and huge local interest.
Unprecedented media attention, focussed on NZ football, began in the lead-up to that away game in Manama, has continued with the surge in ticket sales to the lightning quick sell-out at the stadium and extra seating/no extra seating discussions in recent days.

If I were NZFootball, I'd be keeping the media football " in the air" ...
.e.g. press releases  re: the official  stance on  ticket scalping on Trademe...who'd have thought $300 for a couple of $39 tickets ..in NZ!
Keep the momentum and media attention high leading up to the game.

And what about afterwards? Here's hoping NZFootball are organised to capitalise fully on the opportunity this time.
My fantasy list if the AW's win.....

NZFootball announce a fantastic set of fixtures, against quality teams, both in NZ and away for the AW's, leading up to  South Africa, including a home and away,  NZ v Australia series..which we win!..and guess who we get to play,.. and beat..in the World Cup in South Africa!!??

NZFootball also announce some big hitting sponsorship(s) that will
a) take the AW's to South Africa and beyond...
b) fund a full  NZFC, that includes the Nix reserves (if they aren't already in the A-League youth comp)

The Nix push on from the huge surge in football publicity in Wellington with record crowds, excellent results and finals playoffs..this leads to ...

Simultaneous successful bids from fully-funded Auckland and Christchurch A-League syndicates that lead to almighty Kiwi derby clashes between NZ based clubs...

All Kiwi kids put their AW heroes right up there with the AB's, Kiwi Olympian Gold medallists, Sir Ed et al.

One day we all look back to a time when it all started with a game in Wellington...

...and Football could call NZ "Home".

Sigh.

Nice Buzz for the end of the day Red Ged.
Worth a thread of its own as to what we would like to see come from all of this but funding for the game is high on my list.

Magic. Good luck for December. Only two wins and you're in the semis against Barcelona.

Cheers Uiron.
I chopped it up a bit and after a lot of dithering, put it out there in a new thread.
Some good stuff from people already, some don't want to go there...understandable.
Sometimes we have to face our worst fears and do it anyway.
