[quote]But the Labour Department said yesterday that there were exemptions for multilateral sporting tournaments, hosted by New Zealand, when the hosts did not have control over the selection of participants.

The Wellington Sevens tournament is among those that have been cited as exempt.

Individual players with links to the Fiji military could still be barred from entering New Zealand for the tournament, however.

Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Yeah, thats about the ban on sporting contact. Same deal as what happened with the football team; government let them in because of it being a "multilateral" tournament but barred the 'keeper because of his military "links."

It's like "okay, you can come here and play but we get to decide who you bring."

Has anyone, who emailed the stadium about the removal of the banners, had a reply yet?

I agree with many of the points made.  The government overthrown was a fair disgrace, but I'm not one to support a coup of any democracy.  If it happened in NZ (the EFB won't actually restrict anyone's rights to free speech, just paid for speech the likes of which a normal NZ'er can't afford) but let's say it was actually going to restrict free speech, there was a coup that led to arrests of journos, and the odd beating here and there I doubt too many people would be in favour.

The Stadium does need to sort itself out - an open letter addressing the concerns of YF on the front page of this website would be an idea, especially if it was emailed to the YF Pandemic email list, the media and the Stadium management.

Lastly as said the govt does need to compensate NZF - that the sevens team, the netballers can come here, but not the football team - stuffed if I know how that decision was made, but either ban the lot, or try another tack!

Can't wait to see what poor bland excuse they can come up with.

Not trying to defend the stadium and have only just seen the photo above with the banners that were taken down.I do know that they get a bit touchy about banners that cover up advertising due to their size.I get told most home games when i put up the fever banner to make sure it dosnt cover any advertising.Could that maybe one of the reasons they were asked to be removed.

Finally, FINALLY, Westpac Stadium have replied to our query about banner removal at the Vanuatu game.Wait for it...
I am replying to your feedback you sent to us regarding banners from the All Whites fixture.

We acted in accordance with FIFA protocol which states that any form of discrimination on account of politics is prohibited.

Reads like a pre written template that they have for all these kind of scenarios. I'd demand a proper explanation.
