Today, Yellow Fever got censored by the big Stadium Brother
(granted, very likely under directions from above).
Following a phone call from somebody, who obviously got a
phone call from somebody else, who probably got a phone call from
somebody else still, the steward at the game tonight decided these
banners weren't fit for display and removed them (but left our
other banner about Smeltz, so it wasnt that all banners were
banned, just ones somebody didnt like).
Take a look and decide for yourself if these are truly so
distasteful and offensive they had to be removed. What a
joke!
We will definitely be writing to ask who asked for these to be
taken down and for a copy of the stadium's banner policy. What can
you do these days?

I was gobsmacked when they took the banners down, that was truly
appalling.

That is rediculous. Someone HAS to call the press about this.

Agreed. Absolutely appalling. Stewards are f**king incompetent.
Can't even stay standing during a game.

Great minds 'n' stuff. I had emailed the stadium earlier to see if
they have a policy on this. Any reply I get I'll put up here.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Where were the owners of the banners when the stewards decided to
take them down, couldn't there have been a concerted effort to
retain possession of the banners and move them about the stand?
When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

Looking at the Stadium
policies, Signs or banners that are obscene, offensive or
abusive are prohibited. Guess they can think of some way to sneak
them in under that...

It might be worth the owners of the banners (who presumably have
more of the facts, and a greater claim to having been treated
unjustly) to contact opposition party spokespeople
- I'm sure Rodney Hide or the slimeball Gerry Brownlie (niether of whom I would otherwise support in any way) could get a comment in the media or in the debating chamber about this if they felt so inclined
Do we have any lawyers in YF who could advise us on presenting an argument that contests the stadiums action using the idea that those banners were niether "offensive, abusive, nor obscene?

at the very least we need to write to the stadium and ask for the
reasons the banners were taken down

There can only have been one of three people who authorised
this
1) NZF - Graham Seatter - avoiding embarrassment
2) TVNZ - The producer/editor of the coverage not wanting to broadcast controversial imgaes
3) Westpac Stadium - either by request of either of the above - or on their own intiative
Perhaps we need to write to all three and see if they had any participation in the request and removal of the banners.
Now that this is now the 2nd major issue the YF have got involved with politically (Mayor elections) - I wonder how long it'll be before SIS start snooping around here.

Could hurt to get Graham involved though, the last thing he needs
now is the fans being turned away because of politically influenced
stadium officials.

There may be a raid at the YF headquarters on suspision of terrorist activity against the government.
Its no longer a problem.

If it were TVNZ than that would be highly inappropriate given their role as state broadcaster.

It may have been NZF not wanting to inflame the situation if they
are in the midst of negotiations with Winston for compensation.
But my bet is that it was the Stadium who are just generally a
bunch of numpties.

Did the guys who made the banners get them back, because it's

The banners were not offensive in any way, therefore unlike the
"Naffing Roadside Election Signs", should in my opinion have
remained.

Watch out for the upcoming launch of the Yellow Fever Serious
party.
Well in the late 80's or early 90's the Charlton Athletic fans started a party with the sole issue of returning football to The Valley. They ran in the local body elections and drummed up so much support and publicity that parties that had previously wanted to keep Charlton away realised they'd be idiots not to change that policy.
Hardly anyone voted for them but they showed the power of democracy and that a single-issue party can make a difference. I'm sure we'd have a couple more issues than just the Visa fiasco but a Yellow Fever party or one with our backing and our interests in mind wouldnt be such a bad idea.

Dibs on Minister of the Environment.
I'd normally go for Minister of Sport, but for a football based party that'd be taken already, so I might as well use my degree and my status as Yellow Fever's resident greenie.

NZF need to be friends with the government not get offside with
them. It doesn't matter where the blame lies for the fiji thing,
what is extremely important is NZF are trying to get the govt to
compensate them for the loss of the Fiji match. The last thing NZF
need in this process is to have comments about a Minister
being shown on TV. NZF could go broke if they don't get
compensation and where would that leave us all then?

man this is totally bolluks. We should write into cmapell live or
dom post get some proper media coverage

So since when did fans have to run banners past NZF to get
their approval? NZF can not be held responsible for banners at an
All Whites game and if they did take that approach it is definitely
a backward step. Regardless of NZF's desire to gain compensation
from the Govt fans have a right to express themselves in this
manner providing it is not offensive, and it wasn't. Someone at the
Stadium needs to provide some answers here, this is a serious
breach of freedom of speech.
What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

how about a protest, at the next home game the whole of the YF zone
have banners (the size of the 98%... one) that say "is my banner ok
or would you like this one to?"
