Just released by FIFA:

Argentina back on top

There has been yet another change - the sixth this year - at the top
of the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking. Argentina (1st, up 1)
have cruised back to the top after a superb start to the South
American qualifiers for the 2010 FIFA World Cup while Italy (3rd,
down 2) have seen Brazil (2nd, up 1) overtake them despite two recent
victories after the devaluation of other wins from previous years
(most notably the one against Ukraine in October 2006).

The other changes in the top ten and the places just outside it are a
reflection of the results of EURO 2008 qualifiers. France (4th, up 2)
and Spain (6th, up 1) have moved up the ladder while Germany (5th,
down 1) and the Netherlands (7th, down 2) have paid for defeat by
dropping down a notch or two.

The 3-0 victory chalked up by the Czech Republic (9th, up 2) in
Germany has put them back in the top ten, ousting England (11th, down
2) in the process. Scotland (13th, up 1) and Greece (14th, up 1) have
both edged upwards, with Scotland celebrating their best place since
the World Ranking was introduced in 1993. England's conquerors,
Russia (16th, up 10), count as one of the big movers, having regained
the territory they last occupied some ten years ago.

Norway (21st, up 8), Senegal (34th, up 6), Mali (40th, up 9) and
Hungary (48th, up 7) have all jumped more than five places inside the
top 50. Farther back, Cyprus (57th, up 11), Moldova (61st, up 20) and
Georgia (71st, up 33) are also causing a few ripples while St.
Vincent and the Grenadines (73rd, up 24), Liechtenstein (119th, up
23), NEW ZEALAND (128th, up 28) and Luxembourg (150th, up 26) have
all rocketed more than twenty places.

- The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on Friday,
23 November 2007.

Oceania rankings:
120= Solomon Islands

lol come on m8, It makes no diffrence what there rated @- Its not like the team is going to perform any diffrent if there rated higher or lower. That being said - If NZ do play Vietnam and/or China before the year end(Unless NZ sendout there olympic squard) and NZ win they should jump to around 92nd or lower depending on other results from other confeds/Nations. convict2007-10-25 07:24:53

Yeah your right it doesn't make us play any better or worst depending on our rank. But what it does is give us international recognition, meaning the higher tiered teams may be interested in a game. That is if our joke of a government lets us do such a thing.

We used to be the outcast zone, Israel, Taiwan (Chinese Taipei).  Now we're the outcasts for only playing with our political friends.

Why? One leg would be played here, probably in Auckland, but hopefully in Wellington, and the other leg would be played either in Jordan or Syria. End of story.

Not really sure what you mean, but here goes. There are a few Australian-born Croats playing for Australia. The best known of those is Mark Viduka, but Josip Skoko and Zeljko Kalac have also featured recently. There are also Australian-born Croats playing for Croatia - Joe Simunic, Joey Didulica (though he's very much the third choice keeper) and Anthony Seric, although the latter has fallen out of favour with the Slaven Bilic, the Croatian national coach, and is unlikely to feature for Croatia again.
There is also a number of Australian-born Croats in the A-league, including Mark Rudan, Ante Covic, Ante Milicic and quite a few others.
Finally, the war in Croatia ended in 1995.

How on earth are Northern Ireland 37... well I know how.  If we played more games and of those far more competitive matches we would be top 50 too.

Because last year they beat Spain 3-2 and Sweden 2-1, and have just drawn 1-1 against Sweden last week. With our current squad we wouldn't be able to match any of these results, even in friendlies, so we wouldn't make it to top 50.
They also beat England 1-0 in the last World Cup qualifying cycle.el grapadura2007-10-25 21:43:39

I'm happy for the AW's but to be honest I just hate the FIFA rankings. I think these guys must be pretty pissed most of the day cause sometimes certain ranking just make no sense at all.
Besides, as long as we keep winning games they can even rank us LAST in the world, that makes no difference to me

The ranking system is never going to be perfect.
I agree as long as we keeping winning games who cares.
The problem is, we don't win many games against any decent opposition. Our only decent win in the last 4 years was against Georgia who were ranked 101 at the time anyway. Draws against Wales and Estonia were great, but they weren't wins!

The only real decent win in the last 7 years was against Australia back in Aug 2002. They were ranked 46th, from memory they didn't bring all their overseas players back for that game.

Oh not to forget beating Oman back in 2000 when Oman were ranked 107th in the world.

So there we have 3 "decent" wins in the last 7 years.

I am sorry but we have a lot to prove and are hopefully on the way to doing that.

From our results we don't deserve to be ranked any higher. Feel free to prove otherwise

They will start getting dizzy at such lofty heights, only eight behind the Solomon's.

Soon Winston Peters will recognise the Mighty All Whites.
