I think you'll find that was Brockie

I had a theory that Rickie would start lots of the MLS guys against Mexico...Elliot, Boxall, Gleeson etc and rotate the squad for the Oz game because there is no way that you can play a game at altitude and then fly accross the world and play a key game against Oz in 4 days and perform at a top level .But if the MLS does not shut down as some suggested then the squad depth will be really tested.

I actually think the opposite.  I have a feeling that the US based players will play in Aus and the others, Denver, with the cream of them also turning out in Adelaide.

Assuming the under 20's make it I think Ricki should be organizing a game against them for the a league/nz squad members as they will be seriously rusty

Auckland will rise once more

Looks like a squad of 22 will be named for the two games.

Killen did miss a pretty golden chance to score the winner though. I like all 4 of our strikers but only want to play 2 and I think Kosta should get a start.

I like this. Will it happen? Probably not.

            Gleeson

       Reid Boxall Smith

Brockie                  Lochy
           Vicelich

          McGlinchey

    Smeltz    Wood    Kosta

Subs 7 from: Moss Boyens Fitzgerald Marco Killen Fallon Brown Bertos Clapham

Wood has promised, but not delivered buckets of assists or goals yet...hopefully very soon!

This is only what I would like to see. Not saying Wood is or isn't a better player. These friendlies are the times when we should be giving the likes of Wood and Kosta a decent chance to prove themselves and hopefully score goals at this level.

With Elliott fit, i don't see Vicelich getting a run, not starting anyway.

I wouldn't mind seeing us try and revert back to a tradition 4-4-2. I'm not sure that we'll manage 3 at the back without Nelsen to lead it.

If we do play with wing backs, i'd put Fitgerald in, looked more composed on the ball than Brockie and seemed to know the role a lot better in his brief spell.

I'm not the biggest fan of Brockie to be honest I would prob leave him on the bench. Its a tough call on a line up I would prob go:

Fitzgerald, Reid, Boxall, Smith
        Brown Elliot
            Rojas
     Kosta      Smeltz
            Fallon

I say Fallon because he is in good form at club level even though they got relegated, he lays off a lot of balls to the other strikers and he comes back to defend often. Wood off the bench for him in the second half maybe as he does get a bit tired as the game goes on. I'm almost happy just as long as Boyens doesnt play. I would be interested to see Rojas in the middle of the park that is why I have put him there behind the strikers.Nommag2011-05-12 21:16:46

Rojas is too inexprienced and is not physically tough enough yet to play there.

What about Mcglinchey he score the last goal against china and you want to drop him ,for me elliot is finished at international level .

I forgot about mcglinchey. How about him instead of Rojas and Mulligan instead of Elliot if we want to take out the age factor. Mulligan played really well vs China.

Surprised so many are missing Vicelich - would've thought with Nelson out Vicelich should be a cert... At the back.

Who would you rather field the stronger team against?

Mexico or Australia?

For me, Mexico will be a hard slog, and getting a draw or sneaking a win would be fabulous, but in no way do i want to see us lose to the Aussies.

I'd rather have the top string team up against Aussie. Thrash those smarmy convicts.

I think US player SHOULD be starting in match against Colorado, with the majority of Au match team already training in Adelaide, with only a handful of people travelling back to join the squad in Adelaide.

I left out Vicelich for the same reason I left out Elliot. We are meant to be building up for the next world cup and there is no point using players that will be to old to play in the next world cup.

I see what you're saying but I think to build that team you need a crossover period where some of the older players remain in the mix to help get the younger ones used to playing at that level - kind of like mentors.

We are in a position where we still will have experienced campaigners who will be in the team and are likely to play in the next world cup (if we qualify). Players like Brown, Smeltzy, Killen and Nelson have experience and are part of the future. Usually I would agree that experienced players like Elliot should be part of the mix for the near future you have to keep in mind we don't get many internationals where our whole squad is available so when we do we have to have the right people playing together and test younger players when we can. For now that is more important then experience.

Reid is better in the centre of the park. Boxall isn't a left back, Smith can be. Brown is a defo not a winger, lochead is far better there. Bertos is terrible imo.

Yes - I didn't really separate them into wings or centres but Smith should be on the left and maybe take out Mullican for Lochhead on the left with Brown more in the centre - is Lochead a left sided player?

Complete the following chant (to the tune of The Beatles' "Yellow Submarine"):

"All we want is a team of Winston _____s!"

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Sure - he's not had many starts though and looks like they won't be premier any more. Was OK at the WC and very average against Honduras.

As opposed to the rest of the squad - who are at clubs in the championship, league one, A league etc.

Yeah...Interesting. If you're comparing him to other EPL players, then yes you're right. But we're comparing him to the AWs squad here. EPL vs A league, hmmm....

I'm not saying don't play him - he's definitely best in position for AW's - just think he's overrated and so was bewilderred by the team full of Reid's stuff.

Pretty high I would think. It should be pretty easy to get a stream for the Mexico game, and considering the number of a-league streams that showed up last season, im guessing there will be one for the Oz game as well.
