I don't know if they were the better team, But the tactics of N.Z looked totally wrong
Just my opinion. First half they were shell shocked by that keeper error leading to the freak goal, and then conceded again after a good build up + finish. But they came out after the break looking far more composed and "up for it", and it was only their play in the final third that let them down.
Our tactics were awful, and as someone who knows several people in and on the verge of the team, i can safely say we are going to Mexico with one thing in mind, defend.

Just not convincing going into Mexico on a 2 goals in the final match. Are the boys still using old tactics? No offense to the island teams, but we should be crushing each team by a large margin. By this standard are we able to do better than 3 points in the group?

I am always interested in this statement - why should we be crushing these teams?? Maybe at senior level when players have been through the system but at this age the island teams are usually bigger, stronger and faster than us. We don't have any particularly special players and don't tend to bring back the odd guy who is overseas. It's not as if we have loads of preparation time or an abundance of talented young footballers, or amazing coaching. At u17 level this si the first major set of internationals these guys have played and it tends to show.
I haven't watched any games so I can't judge the ability of this group but we usually struggle against these teams, but are more comfortable the older we get

Point taken HN. But the overall performance of the team all tournament was well below par. According to Cain this was their chance to showcase their attacking and creative side and they failed. In fact in the final they resorted to long ball for well over half the game. In Mexico they are essentially being sent to park the bus (i.e. hoof and defend).

Well of course Tahiti were up for it in the second half. They were well outplayed in the first, even though NZ didnt judge the strength of the wind well with it behind them, and had to try something, they were 2 nil down. But they were not in it at all. They didnt have any play in the final third at all, their passing was poor and their goalie, even though he made that first mistake, kept them in it with several fine saves. It wasnt a matter of if they would score, it was if NZ could get more on the board
To say Tahiti were the better team is a complete joke, I wonder where you are coming from with that. Perhaps you went there with a biased view, but I certainly didnt, NZ were far better, their defense was good, they did more than the hoofball you suggested, there was some good play down the wings , esp in the second half, they dominated them to be frank. Tahiti were reasonable across the back, their captain was an asset, but they were not as organised at all. NZ even won the niggles from what I saw

Hard to say how good the result is...
What age are the Club Brugge players, if they are up to 20 then the result is that much better in terms of the had to play against older, faster more experienced players. However, if our national under 17's only beat a club youth team from Belgium (not a notable league, although Brugge is a reasonably big club) by pinching a goal on the counter, then I am not hugely impressed.
Its a pity the age group games in Japan got cancelled, playing against other National teams would have given us a much better indicaion where we are at.
Still maybe one or two of the young guys got noticed by Brugge and will get looked at.
The article calls them their counterparts, so that would lead me to believe it was an U17 or U18 side from Club Brugges.
I see they got beaten again. Cain said that this tour has enforced the fact the the gulf between NZ and the rest is large.

Steve Cain has quit as coach of the New Zealand under-17 men's soccer team only two months out from the under-17 World Cup in Mexico.
Cain, who took the Young All Whites on a two-week training camp in Qatar last month, stepped down because of personal reasons according to New Zealand Football.
Aaron McFarland, co-coach of Auckland City and an assistant coach of the under-17s in 2009, will take charge of the side in Mexico.

A bit unprofessional from him I think, to blame it on a few beers is a bit of a cop out. To his credit though he has come out and explained the reasoning behind his resignation instead of letting the rumor mill go to town (if it hasn't already).

If Steve Cain was 22, one could possibly use the excuse that he was just a young guy, but at his age he should have known better.

I think this is great news. The squad can know be changed and the best players in the country can now be selcted to represent NZ at a world cup.
Cain wanted big strong athletes with limited technical flair, interesting how Herdman keeps advocating that the focus must be put on technique with our youngsters and yet allows a Coach with very different footballing ideas to coach our top youth team?
Number of players from the Waikato that are training daily some twice a day that have to be brought into the NZ set up. If NZ Football do not bring these boys in, they are complete fools.
