Is a few of last year's NZ U17s there, but no Marley Leuluai (18 in Nov).
Is he involved with relegated Burnley's senior squad in pre season, I wonder?

Ollie Middleton and Finn McKenlay mentioned by someone as possible Auckland FC signings.

What position does the Dubai-based one play?

Insta says CB, but also calls him an Oztraylian.
https://www.instagram.com/fleetwoodunitedfc/p/CwFVA-yNgO4/?img_index=1

Pretty sure he was born in Napier/Hawkes Bay - Likely moved over to Aussie at a pretty young age.

Good to see him given an opportunity. Have been following him for a bit, but was touch and go on whether he'd make the cut.

As for the comment about Marley Leuluai, he's probably focusing on his club commitments as he enters the 2nd year of his scholarship at Burnley. He'll likely need to make more of an impression this season in order to get another deal, as he bounced around the U18's &U21's last season, but didn't find any sort of consistent run in those sides.

Cool. Shout out to Green Island in Dunners.

Going to be interesting to see next ALM season, how AFC's U20 players (signed from the domestic leagues) compare to the Nix's U20 guys (all coming through the Academy).

As Carlind mentions in another thread, Greenacre has picked a whopping 11 Nix players, in his 23 man squad. All come from the Nix reserves who sit only 6th in Central League.

Oh & surely Codey Phoenix has been approached to head south to the Weenix Academy!

https://theniche-cache.com/football/2024/5/31/what-comes-next-for-the-wellington-phoenix-blokes-after-their-best-ever-a-league-season

Tze Xuan Loke (Born 2005) – Captained the WeeNix in their last few games so there are leadership credentials here. TXL is a fullback who can play on either side and the Nix always need fullbacks. Bit of a different style to possession-based guys like Kelly-Heald and Sutton, Loke is more dynamic and will absolutely bomb forward. He joined the academy from Green Island in Dunedin.

This is taking precedence over doing the lawns. Need a performance that will gloss over the death stares from the missus. 😆

Excited to see how these lads go though.

30°C and 85% humidity for a lunchtime kickoff is pretty rough as well. 🥵

Not much to write home about.

1-0 to us. It's hot, with NZ dominating posession, but there hasn't been too much cutting edge up top. New Caledonia quite often with all 10 or 11 camped in their own half. Seems to be stifling some of our more creative outlets, but it gives them nothing going forward...

Sole goal from a dubious handball penalty, converted by Stipe Ukich.

Pretty tame stuff so far though.

Would have had half the lawns done by now too!

Legend, thank you! Missed the first half as it showed as starting at 12pm on the OFC website - though obviously, that was local time

Just tuned in. NZ 3-0 up. Chance to watch Alby Kelly-Heald in goal, not that he'll have much to do. Fergus Gillion in midfield as well.

Few of those AFC scholarship kids there as well. A bit of Kiwi Klasico banter in camp.

Edit - GSR & Luke Supyk just bought on. More fun actually playing in the Samoan sun, that slugging it out in pre season training in a Welly winter!

Even the new Caledonia players are cramping up, why do they play at mid day? Are the lights not adequate, I saw a couple of towers. Hard to judge nz team in these conditions. Coveny and ukich look good.

Luka Coveny is a big unit. Too big for the NC guys.

Bit brutal making them play 101 mins in those conditions. Finished 3-0.

Geez Coulibaly looks a player. Played at both RB and down the left today with proficiency, plays as a CB at club level, and has been an AM/CM/winger in the past. Versatility personified, plus great composure and touch

Coveny’s improved a ton since U17s it looks, huge with good technique

Hopefully not a serious injury for Loke

https://www.oceaniafootball.com/defending-champions-new-zealand-start-campaign-with-comfortable-victory/

New Caledonia defender Upa was fortunate to not have been sent off after a dangerous tackle on Tze Xuan Loke, instead he was cautioned with a yellow. As for Loke, his day was over after succumbing to an ankle injury.

Tahiti beat Vanuatu 1-0.
So Solomons 6 pts, Fiji 3 pts, Tahiti 3 pts & Vanuatu 0 pts

Final round in pool A
Fiji vs Vanuatu
Solomons vs Tahiti

Solomons will be dead keen to beat Tahiti and so likely avoid a NZ semi final.

If as expected NZ finish first in their pool, probably will play Tahiti or Fiji in their semi. Fiji in the box seat.

NZ verus Samoa tomorrow looks to be 2pm NZT.

Samoa with a striker Pharrell Bennett who is based in Germany

Only watched bits and pieces of the Vanuatu v Tahiti game, but that ground is getting cut to pieces in this weather.

Forecast for rain right through tonight and all of tomorrow for Apia - Could make for very heavy playing conditions. Humidity will still be between 80-90% too.

Interested in seeing the Bulkeley x Coveny CB partnership today.

Lachy Candy in the frame too. Have heard he'll be in and around the Nix first team pre season setup in the run in to the A-League season. Good chance to see what he's about.

1-0 - Codey Phoenix - get this lad on the books, even if it is just for his name.

Phoenix Olimpico! 2-0.

Look at that far side on the coverage though. Massive chunks being taken out of the pitch.

I hope this isn't the only field being used for the tournament. It's heavy!

Bulkeley's passing isn't completely 100% but he likes a good progressive pass out of defence and into that midfield to break the lines. Longer passing needs a bit of work, but can't really complain about what's on show from him so far.

Good size to the lad too, proper CB frame and uses his body well in the challenge too. Keeping a very close eye on him.

This match also important to Samoa and New Caledonia - if we win by 5+, then Samoa have to beat New Caledonia. Otherwise, it's New Caledonia that have to win that game.

Right now I fancy Solomon Islands will beat whoever progresses anyway.

That #11 for Samoa, Juan Gobbi, is absolutely disgusting. Pushing players maliciously off ball, and just launched an awful studs-up tackle right into the shin out of frustration with clear intent to injure. One of the worst non-red-card decisions I've seen

Having had my career ended in a game because a referee couldn't maintain any control, I have absolutely no time for this stuff

Probably should have been a red to that Samoan player for the challenge on Supyk there...

Sliding in, uncontrolled, studs up and connects with the shin. 😒

He's just done it again, and not even a card this time! These are kids, ffs - crazy that referees treat player welfare with this little respect when guys like Gobbi clearly feel the same

This commentators pronunciation of Luke Supyk is unmatched

I've heard
Spyke
Skype
Spuke

😭

And he'll say it once when Supyk is involved in the play, and then he'll obviously question that in his head, but then proceed to say it a different way. 🤣

Delightful.

So close to a GSR goal there. Lovely build up play down the right hand side. Tucked away by Partridge for 4-0 though.
