Ok so now, if Egypt get a goal to win it 2-1, and this game stays 2-0, it would come down to fair play...

And a wasted challenge to boot.

For me, LKH doesn't stand out like someone who has almost fifty senior appearances.

Did enjoy that moment of the defender underestimating LBS’ strength.

He's shocking. Not sure what anyone sees in him apart from height

Our midfield is atrocious. After so many good midfield prospects coming through it’s surprising to see a team with none

little bit of an exageration, he's 20, so of course his game is going to be lacking polish in some areas.

Ukich really not at his best today. Good running but so many unforced errors.
It's frustrating to see when we dilly dally with the ball, having gotten into a promising position. This has been a theme in the tournament for me (and we're all guilty of it).
LKH...to me he should be a CB for the Nix. End of story. Japan are class and it was always going to be hard today...but I also feel Greenie should have rung in the changes before the second goal. You could see it was needed.
Really hope we can get through with 3 points.

Well I don’t see any overseas clubs looking at this current crop and offering up contracts.

A league the best bet for many but quite a few are not up to that standard either.

Maybe the Oceania league

Maybe I've got rose tinted glasses, but there's plenty to be excited about. Let's not forget this is a world cup...and historically we've not beef that good, especially at U20 level.
Gray, Loke, LKH, Ukich, LBS, Kelly...maybe they won't all get signed by Bayern Munich, but they all have a very high ceiling in terms of development

LKH almost gave up another goal. Appalling passing… even at 20 he should know how to pass a ball!!

Yeah a lot of exaggerated negativity about our performance today, but I think Japan really are just very good.

An outdated stat from the commentator about GSR saying he's the youngest ever to debut for the Phoenix - but LBS beat it last season

geez I'd have loved to see some of y'all at 20, how good were you?
Lets be honest, anyone in this lot would destroy all of you armchair critics even if they were playing at halfspeed.

This Japanese side is very very good, and yes they have exposed some weaknesses but lets not bash a group of 20 yr old boys who have worked very hard to get where they are.

Nix probably need to send LBS to the u17 World Cup now, if they want to get a good fee for him at the end of the coming season. His deal runs out at the end of the following season, I don't expect he will be signing an extension

Yes those glasses must be very dark rose tinted glasses…but only Gray and Ukich are at a higher development, the rest are big hype in the hope for  money in future transfers.

We didn’t start LBS. and it showed we were light in the CBs and CMs.

Looks like a fight over in the other game. Seems like Chile are upset that Egypt will be qualifying over NZ lmao

and it's over. 2-1 Egypt

We gift goals. Don't deserve to go through. But we are an ok side, so we can take heart from that.

But too many individual errors cost across all the games.

the live ladder they showed at the end of the Egpyt Chile game had NZ above Egypt in Third.

It's going to feel so weird heading into the round of 16 and knowing we're not going to be there after making it four times in a row.

Surely Egypt will finish above Chile due to their head to head so Chile should be in 3rd. I hope they don't make the knockout, they're a bunch of horrible whingers

I believe we are 4th on the fourth tie breaking criterion, which is group GD. All of NZ, Egypt and Chile finished dead equal on the first 3 criterions. Egypt and Chile are also level on group GD so it then goes down to fair play, the fifth criterion, to decide who is second and who is third

No. The mens U20 team has been our most successful team at World Cups. Making the playoffs, the last 4 U20 WCs prior this one.

That 3rd goal costly. A soft giveaway in midfield. Another soft giveaway by LKH prior the 2nd goal.

Still I wouldn't be harsh on this edition. Was a tough pool. Tougher than recent WCs. First game against Chile maybe the best performance.

Japan are class. As the commentator said, a serious contender to go all the way.

yeah thats how it looks on the Fifa website. A shame. We weren't bad but had an off night against a very good Japan team. Lose by 1 and we would have been through.

It's a three way tie for head to head so they cancel each other out.

Three for me, and two for them.

Japan were pure class.

Now that we’re out I hope they go all the way and their supporter on the drum gets a good workout.

Let's be real, while this team was an improvement on Baze's lot of 2 years ago, they were nowhere near Des' side's level and were not going to be doing anything special in the knockouts anyway. Glad the Nix boys can head home early and get back into preseason.

Going to be pretty damn tough to top or reach levels similar to Des’s side in the U20WCs to come, that squad was exceptional.
