Looking pretty comfortable defensively  - but once we get up the wings in attacking positions our crosses are usually woeful.

Good opportunity wasted by #20 with a shocking cross. Grind looks awful though, ball bobbling everywhere do that could have contributed. O bugger! 2nd goal Croatia 62min

Great chance wasted by Rufer. A long throw in by Messenger , a bit of a scramble in the box, the ball comes to Rufer on the penalty spot, and he misses the target. 91st minute now.

I think whoever becomes the All Whites coach needs to have a say on the style of football to be played at the junior levels because defensive formations and unnecessary long balls are not how we should be progressing now the senior national team is trying to change it's structure.

Agree - we looked competent defensively but were pretty inept in the attacking third, with long balls and stray crosses from the wings which Croatia coped with easily.
Thought Croatia were a pretty average side and not vastly superior to us - but they knew what to do with the ball in the attacking third.
Maybe the Junior All Whites need to get in some experts in coaching attacking play - some people don't like Wynton Rufer, but he could be good in mentoring our young attacking players.
Think we have the basis for a competent side which could improve with a lot of hard work and games before the Finals next year.
I still haven't seen anything from Alex Rufer to suggest he is anything special or can create or score goals. He was also average for the u-17's in the u-17 World Cup last year.

This Croatia U20 team isn't the greatest (I'm part Croatian and don't find them mighty impressive) but like you said they have better play in and around the box and that second goal showed what some creativity can do.

Anyone who can mentor the players in building up attacking play and maintaining possession in and around the box instead of panicking and shooting or doing a pointless cross because of pressure can only be a good thing. Whenever we play quality teams (in seniors as well) that has been the clear difference which was the case under Ricky. Hopefully that influence on the junior teams fades and the technical play increases.

We shouldn't be aiming to go into the WC next year hoping for draw's and own goals and luck to get us through to the next round because it wont be a good look if we get knocked out in the first round and struggle to score.

I agree about Rufer. I was hoping last season for Wellington he would show something like Ridenton did when he came on however you could argue he didn't get as many chances. So far it seems like there is more hype around him due to his family and not his own technical ability which I hope he proves me wrong on because he has all the right people around him to succeed.

See I think Rufer has the technical ability but sometimes takes the risky choice and not the safe choice because he backs himself to make that risky choice. So for me, its about evaluating choices and execution rather than technical ability.

I started a forum thread advocating NZ put a bid in to host the FIFA u-20 World Cup back in December 2009 - NZF announced they were bidding in January 2011.
(The title of the thread was changed from "NZ Should Bid to Host the FIFA u-20 World Cup" to "NZ: Hosts of the u-20's World Cup 2015" after NZ's bid was successful)
Here are the original pages agitating for NZ to put a bid in:

Am I right thinking Hudson will now be in charge? Determining playing style if not actually selecting the squad?. Ditto for the Under-17's? So will he be on the sideline with the ASB Under-20's & ASB Youth shouting instructions? Could be an interesting season ahead.
