Mine was just a joke...

Not sure about NTC quality any more. I haven't been involved for a couple of years now.

Has anyone heard anything about the Qatar tournament? Talked to players likely to be involved?

Players advised of Team today. Several players going to US Universities not released as it's their start of season.  I imagine press release is imminent.

A Junior All Whites side including seven changes from June’s trip to China was named on Thursday for a four-team tournament in Qatar as the team continue their preparations for next year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup on home soil.

Bit more international flair than usual. A few players form Aussie, one from japan and Italy, another from England and also from Portugal although since released.

I used to coach Gowan Stares, who is a hell of a nice kid. His inclusion in this squad is surprising to me though.

He has written a wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Gowan95

I believe the "Pulse Premier Academy" is a bit like Capital Kaizen or Ole. Not a club as such.

Google tells me his nickname is G-String. Quality.

Probably the cheapest/easier opportunity to take a look at him.

Lost 4-0 to Qatar this morning. Probably not surprising given the number of chances to the squad since the China tournament.

Who are the most notable omissions though? Only ones I knew was Bill Tuiloma, Cory Brown and Monty Patterson (who is there now anyway). Still has the likes of Rufer and Ridenton..

I guess not having Tuiloma would make a big difference.

Playing the game the day after arriving is probably the biggest factor in the result. Jet lag and its physical toll plus the heat!!

Lucky the players didn't drop like flies.

"Playing a day after arriving in camp at the Aspire Academy, the New Zealand U-20 side were 1-0 down at halftime and the hosts struck three times in the second half to provide the final margin."

It seems that defensively we are hard to break down. We have in the previous tournament and this one generally being very tight and hard to break down.

However, in those 5 games i don't think we have scored (maybe 1) and that is a real concern.

Beazley said a focus of this trip was to give a couple other players a chance but also to work on the final third... so far it looks like we need to continue to work.

3 - 1 win this morning. One penalty otherwise the other goals from open play which is nice to see. Reads like off twitter than Ridenton was heavily involved.

Good to see us notch up a win and some goals. Also it sounds like we were the team trying to play, and them resorting to hoof ball. Makes a nice change.

Also, it read like we were a little lucky with them missing some good opportunities and hitting the post.

How do you win 3-1 and then lose 3-0 to the same side only a day or so later? I think theyre going to be hard pressed to get out of their group next year. As someone mentioned above - one win since 2011. Not looking good at all this close to the tournament.

So how did we qualify for the 2013 World Cup then? By winning four games. That's how.

4 games in 8 days will be really good for this lot despite the three losses
