Nice to see we are spending a bit more time on the ball.  We were under the pump for the first 15 or so.

Whoever above said this team was a long ball outfit is currently being proven to be a big fat liar. Or clueless about football.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Certainly not appearing that way so far. The passing isn't always the tidiest, but they are certainly trying.

Struggling hard to hold possession in midfield.  Winning possession but passes inaccurate.

Don't get Rufer up front at all

Fittest guy in the squad to chase and harass their back 4 and keeper on the ball?  Certainly doesn't seem to be in the game plan to use him in any attacking sense.

The long ball into the box probably isn't going to work.

I like tautologies because I like them.

Tuiloma, Edge and Stevens the only ones who look to know what to do with the ball, rest of the team pretty poor

A point out of this game would be fantastic. I think if Ukraine score is going to be from a counter because it seems like NZ is getting caught out quite a bit in possession and then have to sprint back to cover. The Ukrainian's are technically quite good.

Encouraging first half. Ridenton should have done better with his header from the corner.

How refs are doing injury time is horrific. 1 minute injury time was called (of course, that's a minimum) for that half, that was displayed before/while there was a head injury which stopped play for over a minute. Watched carefully & play didn't start until 30 seconds into injury time. Then play was stopped after pretty much exactly 1 minute. Clearly should have been 2 minutes injury time.

Bothers me a lot as that sort of thing happens ALL THE TIME. Worst is when teams are time wasting at the end of a match and additional time doesn't get added properly after the injury time amount has been displayed.

Can see the alignment - panic and indecisiveness on the ball

Tuloma and Mitchell looking good but midfield losing ball easily and just looking to go forward wether or not it's the right decision. Stevens injecting some pace could be our danger man. Dyer totally lost giving ball away in dangerous positions wouldn't be surprised if the drop him and put someone up front moving rufer and Ridenton back 1.

I agree with TV. All Declan Wynne can do it boot it back to them.

I think this is an awful watch from NZ. They are poor and it shows. Their main goal has been long ball so we are told (being in #alignment) and when they do have it at feet, they have no clue what to do with it as they get in each other's way. They look like a side that has never played together before.

It we get a point against Myanmar, I would be impressed. We won't be getting out of the group stage and yes, I only need 45min to tell that.

Funny cos that is not how I have seen it at all.

Either I'm on happy drugs or just maybe you're on miserable pills.

I'm enjoying watching this and I think our team is playing pretty well against a superior Ukraine team. We've created chances and could well have been a couple of goals to the good by now.

And it hasn't been larry long ball by any stretch of the imagination.

Yeah dead set. We have definitely not dominated, but we also have competed pretty well and moved the ball on the deck when we can.

I can't agree with Jeff and those above who are saying things like the team is shark and they look like they've never played together before. I just don't think it's true.

I agree. Ukraine has the better players but it seems that all our guys are giving 100%. Some of them do seem to be on different pages which is disappointing given all the build up they have had. We certainly don't look dangerous or very clinical.

All well and good wanting to play like  Barca but if you only have the Soldiers to play like Stoke?

[/quote]

Maybe if the players are allowed to continue to develop along the path which has been set forth by NZF regarding junior and youth level abilities then we may have a chance of producing more players capable of pulling it off. However to ask them to switch to a style of play they havent been growing with is the best way to continue producing Stoke....

We will never develop quality players if we get scared and give up and go long at the final step

To my mind, this is a very good argument against alignment. Coaching everyone in one method and it stops them from playing a different way if the circumstances require it, or their new coach thinks differently.

I'd agree Smithy. We look like an inferior team that, despite being not as good as the opposition, is trying to play football, and is creating some chances against a better team.

The only chances NZ has created have been either because or Stevens or Ukranian mistakes, I don't think that's something to be proud of, a draw would be something huge considering how poor the team has been so far

Isn't football a wonderful game! Two supporters of a team can watch the same game and one can think his team has done him proud (me) and the other one can think his team is awful.
