CHANGES TO DAY THREE MATCHES

Extreme weather conditions in Taupo have resulted in changes to today�s matches at the OFC Men�s Olympic Qualifier, Tuesday 20 March.

The matches will now be scheduled as followed:

American Samoa vs. Solomon Islands:
POSTPONED UNTIL WEDNESDAY 21 MARCH, TIME & VENUE TBC

Tonga vs. New Zealand:
2:00pm TODAY, VENUE TBC

Fiji vs. Vanuatu:
4:00pm TODAY, VENUE TBC

A venue announcement for today�s first match between Tonga and New Zealand will be made at 12:00pm with the options of Owen Delany Park or nearby Crown Park, off Crown Road, depending on wind conditions.

The venue for today's second match will be announced by 2:00pm at the latest while the time and venue for tomorrow's postponed match will be confirmed in due course. The decision to postpone American Samoa vs. Solomon Islands was made since the result has no bearing on the overall competition.

The kick-off times for the Tonga vs. New Zealand and Fiji vs. Vanuatu have been adjusted to ensure there is enough daylight hours. Power cuts have been reported across Taupo meaning stadium lighting is not guaranteed.

NZ v Tonga not scheduled to be broadcast anyway (only the mid-day and 5pm games in pool play have been broadcast).
As for the 4pm game today, log onto http://ofctv.e-cast.co.nz/ at 4pm to see if it's broadcast.
 
By the way, the broadcast quality is so good with multiple camera angles etc. because the games we are seeing streamed are actually being broadcast live on television in many Pacific Islands.
 
Yep, the Pacific Islands get better football coverage from their TV providers than we do...
-as do most countries.
Have recently returned from India where they have channels dedicated to 24 hours of football
(even caught Auckland City's Club World Cup match live in Agra in December!).

American Samoa vs. Solomon Islands
12:00pm Wednesday 21 March

2:30pm Wednesday 21 March

5:00pm Wednesday 21 March

The semi finals and finals day will continue on 22 March and 24 March as per the original schedule.

What crappy weather for Taupo with this big tournament happening

"Taupo residents are being told to stay inside as wild weather knocks out power, sends debris flying and brings down trees.

Strong winds have been battering the Taupo district today and are expected to continue for the next few days, Taupo District Council emergency manager Phil Parker said.

Trees and debris were causing problems for motorists and pedestrians, and police were asking residents to exercise common sense and not go outside unless absolutely necessary.

"If you don't have to go outside, don't. Please stay indoors for the time being. Flying debris and unpredictable weather make it dangerous to go walking or cycling outdoors for the next few days,'' Taupo Community Constable Barry Shepherd said."

The law states foul OR abusive; I once sent a player off for calling me a hypocrite which I consider to be abusive.
If someone calls the referee a cheat, he should be sent off. It's not foul but it is a step too far. I knew a referee who was a police sergeant and he told both teams before kick-off that foul language was an offence under the crimes act. No one swore at his games!

In the end that's just an incorrect interpretation of the rules.  There is no way that calling someone a hypocrite is abusive.

Calling a ref a cheat is bang out of order, and I think deserves a red card.
 
Saying what a ref did is hypocritical, or calling him a hypocrite is, at the most a yellow card, but should only be a warning.
 
I got sent off in a game for swearing at my team-mates, which I thought was mental at the time, but I look back and realise that it was a correct decision (even taking into account that one of the players I was swearing at was Feverish).  It was a Hilton Petone game and what I yelled could possibly be heard by most of Petone, so it was a fair decision.  I do not think that I could ever accept being sent off for saying a ref was hypocritical.

The semi-finals and finals day of the OFC Men's Olympic Qualifier have both been pushed back a day and will now take place on Friday 23 March and Sunday 25 March at Owen Delany Park in Taupo.

The decision comes after the postponement of today's final round of group matches, due to extreme weather conditions, and following further consultation between all major stakeholders.

With player welfare the top priority, officials concluded that a turnaround of 24 hours between matches should be avoided. 

Below is the revised schedule for the remainder of the tournament, with all matches set to take place at Owen Delany Park. The full schedule is also available online here

Wednesday 21 March � Group Stage

American Samoa vs. Solomon Islands � 12:00pm

Tonga vs. New Zealand � 2:30pm 

Fiji vs. Vanuatu � 5:00pm 

Friday 23 March � Semi-finals

Group A Winner vs. Group B Runner-up � 1:00pm

I still think that by that logic anyone heard swearing on the sidelines should be evicted from the ground.  If you're worried about people hearing swear words then apply it equally (or preferably not at all and get on with it)
 
Pretty sure I've never seen a player leave the pitch more slowly after a red that day Jonesy...
 
I really don't understand why swearing from outside the white line at players inside it is fine i.e. coaches, but players swearing inside the line isn't.  But that's just me.  Really never been particularly bothered by swearing

It's a massive non issue, not just in football but in life.

Who decides what words are offensive and what aren't?

It's so ambiguous, because words in one language or culture can take on an entirely different meaning to those in another.

For the record, nothing anyone says on the field should be worthy of a booking, let alone a sending off. Words are entirely up to the interpretation of those using or hearing them, and can easily be manipulated. We may as well start sending people off for using numbers in an offensive manner too.

I always think this when these sort of issues come up. Its silly that the word c**t for instance is generally thought to be one of the most offensive words in the English language but the equivalent for male genitalia, d*ck or c*ck, isn't considered any where near as bad. And words like bloody (referring to menstruation) or bugger (sodomy) used to be the most offensive things you could say and now they are completely acceptable in pretty much all social circles.

Defining swearing or offensive language for the rules of a sport played across such a wide range of social and cultural groups is just asking for problems

one of the reasons i don't watch footy games is because i can't take my kids because of the language, both foul and abusive, of those both on and off the pitch

according to the live updates on the ofc website, the longest spell in the second half without a goal was 6 minutes straight after the half time break.
 
anything more pointless that substituting your keeper at 14-1 down with 8 minutes left?
