if they're using the same kind of formation as against PNG, then I would assume that it would be a 4-2-3-1, with Thomas at right back, Lindsay and Feneridis holding in midfield with Saric, Hicks and Fenton behind lone striker Draper.

Hold on, are you two saying that if you call the ref a cheating c**t then you don't deserve to be sent off?

Do you want anyone to ever referee a game you play in?
What if the ref only spoke English and a player called the ref a cheating c**t in Swahili, yet got away with it because the ref doesn't speak that language? Too ambiguous, so no, you shouldn't get sent off for calling the ref a cheating c**t, or anything else for that matter.

And you expect someone to give up their afternoon to come out and referee a game in which they aren't going to punish someone for calling them 1) a cheat and 2) a c**t?

What if someone calls the ref a handsome cheat with beautiful blue eyes? Still a punishable offence for calling him a cheat? Or is it just because you get uppity at the word c**t being used?

As soon as you call someone a cheat you have crossed the line. End of. And you didn't answer my question....

Do you ever wonder why people don't take up refereeing?

Like any law of the game it'd be up to nterpretation by the referee. If he deems it to be foul and abusive you'll be punished.

I don't really ge what you're going on about.

I know we can't do anything about the weather but damn annoying that the final has been postponed to sunday. I was driving up there on Saturday for it and to catch up with Jakes dad who has flown over from Aussie for this. Now will have to miss as coming down to Nix game on Sunday. Hopefully we get a score update from the stadium announcer.

I am going to suggest that whoever wrote this sentance on the Wiki page doesn't know how football works:

Al-Ghandour was involved in the controversial South Korea - Spain quarterfinals in the 2002 World Cup where he was responsible for a number of controversial decisions, including giving a goal kick to South Korea after Joaqun stopped the ball in front of the line, which led to the Spanish being denied two goals.

In the end that's just an incorrect interpretation of the rules.  There is no way that calling someone a hypocrite is abusive.

Wish there was some football to talk about!
Nice one! I obviously mistook it as it was meant as a term of endearment.
There was nothing incorrect about it as the judicial committee confirmed with a 3 match ban. I normally think your posts are sensible and thoughtful but not on this occasion.
You did not know the law states "foul OR abusive" so forgive me if I don't put any store by your opinion on refereeing.

Don't want to be drawn into a debate but:

- I know what the law says, my argument was that for refs to enforce that rule sensibly at a minimum it should be both foul and abusive. Check the rest of the footballing world for application

- I played in Dunedin during a season when all swearing on the pitch was banned. Straight red for exclaiming "f**k" to yourself if you misplaced a pass or someone yelling at a team mate "f**king mark up". No exceptions at all (believe it was 02/03). All of those suspensions were confirmed - as far as I am concerned it does not validate the ridiculous decisions made by referees or the administration behind them. Moral of the story, the authorities are not always right and it goes without saying the rule didn't last (players, fans and coaches all universally objected).

I understand trying to curb swearing. If someone is swearing a lot, action should probably be taken (after theyve been asked to tone it down). You don't want a situation where kids can't come down to parks because of excessive foul language. But a straight red for a single slip is ridiculous.

I remember that season, one poor bloke got hacked from, exclaimed f**k, but not overly loudly, and the ref sent off and the hatchet merchant got away with a hideous tackle.

On the kids thing, senior football is for adults, if you take your kids along to an adult event don't expect adults to pander to them.

I think we all agree there is a line, I guess the difficult thing for refs is where to draw that line

As someone with personal experience of breaking a jaw a few years ago, there are some good signs for Marco Rojas' quick recovery from this interview done with him this week- I have a feeling his fracture isn't too serious and he should be available for the Oceania Nations Cup in June, what to speak of the Olympics in London in July:

-most noticeably the fact he can already speak quite comfortably is evidenced by this quite extensive interview done with him this week. This indicates his jaw is not very tightly wired as mine was for a few weeks- mine was so tightly wired together with tight rubber bands- and sore, with a pin inserted- that I could barely speak, especially in the first week.

-the tone of the interview is that he's looking forward to playing at the Olympics
