I think they will give him an exemption too.

New Zealand Football’s Executive Committee confirmed on Friday its decision not to appeal the decision of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Appeals Committee, to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

In reaching their decision, President Deryck Shaw says the Executive Committee weighed up a number of factors, including the sentiment of the wider football community who while frustrated by events were wanting closure and attention to move back onto the field.

“Despite legal advice recommending an appeal on a number of grounds on the specific case of the disqualification, we have taken the view not to proceed,” Shaw said.

“One of the key reasons the decision has been made is to mitigate any risk such an action might have on other players who have represented New Zealand under the same interpretation since the rule change in 2008 and any further action from the OFC.”

New Zealand Football maintains its position that the action taken against one of its players and the subsequent disqualification of its Men’s U-23 team from the Pacific Games was unfair.

Shaw said New Zealand Football will now be seeking the support of the OFC and FIFA to change the current FIFA eligibility statutes and their application.

“We want to secure the opportunity for young people who have moved to New Zealand with their families as children and young adults for non-football reasons to play the game they love in New Zealand and represent their adopted country – something the statutes never intended to prevent.”

Well, now we will never really know will we?

I have heard from a very good source that NZF have 100% always known that they were not complying with the rules but the attitude was passport is fine.  Their view is that this goes on world wide and is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to non-compliance with FIFA rules.  I understand Fred is pretty bitter about taking the fall for this.

I thought Wynne had been given an exemption about a month ago?

I wouldn't have expected Wynne to have got any exemption whilst the threat of court action was around.

Now NZ football have back tracked and realised they don't have a hope in hell, I would expect it to come through shortly.

Alright, sorry, NZF put in for 10 exemptions and 8 have been granted but Wynne's is one of the ones they're still waiting on apparently:

I thought the 8 were JUST for the U17s to get them to Chile; meaning 8 out of the 21 or however many travelled needed exemptions.

Aussie commentator on the Central Coast game said reason Storm Roux didn't travel to Oman was NZ Football were in the process of sorting out his elidgibility

So what happens if Roux is not eligible. He played in WCQ for us so he can't then play for SA ? Or can he ? this whole thing is pretty wack tbh these guys simply shouldn't be able to get on the pitch if they can't play legally. I mean everyone should be given a match card at international level by FIFA if you have one you play if you don't then you can't. It really can't be that hard

If he can't play for us, then he can play for SA cause he was born there. Nothing confising about it.

Actually, with South Africans it gets complicated because they don't allow dual citizenship - any South African aged 18 or older who acquires the passport of another country is automatically stripped of their SA citizenship - unless they apply for an exemption at the time they acquire the new country's passport.

I'm thinking Roux probably has a NZ passport, and Australian citizenship as well, so he probably wouldn't be eligible any more to play for SA (in the unlikely case they wanted him) unless he asked the SA government for that exemption at the time.

That will help NZ Football's case for an exemption from the FIFA statute - if he's no longer eligible for the county of his birth anyway.

I see that Real Madrid were kicked out of the Spanish Cup this week....for fielding an ineligible player in their last Cup win.

So the wealthiest club in the world is at the same administrative level as NZ Football !!!

FIFA eligibility are irrelevant of what a country does with citizenship. He is/was eligible for his birth country

That's not my understanding [based on what I have read here previously]. I thought he would only be eligible for NZ if he had a NZ passport and he no longer had one because as a Japanese citizen he was expected to give the Kiwi one up at the time of becoming a citizen of Nippon. He could now apply to get his NZ one back but that would mean he would have to give up his Japanese one and play int he J League as a foreigner [if he could get a gig]. While that wouldn't be a problem to Joe Blow, if he did that, there is no chance he wouldn't be tumbled by the JFA as they would obviously ask the question "how come he is playing for NZ when he is a Japanese citizen and we don't allow twin passports?" 

Good news for Deklan, doesn't change previously eligbility but means from now on he is free to play for the All Whites.

It just goes to show how stupid it was not to have done this in the first place.

Failed even to make the quarter-finals at the Asian qualifying tournament and finished third in their group (behind UAE and Jordan).

The Aussies have been quite poor at youth level in Asia in recent years despite being champs at senior level.

Failed to make last year's u-20 World Cup as well of course.

The Aussies can't make excuses about conditions in Qatar coming from a very hot Aussie summer (only seven of their squad of 23 play in Europe). Those would be reasonable excuses if a NZ side was taking part though.

Still S**ts me that we are not in Rio this year.  Was a great excuse to head to the Southern Hemisphere during the European summer.
