NZ 'A' vs Jordan

Grrrr.

We could have had a Keat / Payne and Howieson midfield pairing or similar to look at more options moving forward and now I see us having a Vicelich Christie combo there instead.

What is that going to teach you Ricki that you don't already know?

Atleast players like Musa and Myers are going to get a chance to show what they can offer at a higher level.

Not as long as Christie hasn't been seen for. Total lack of ability injury.

Tim Myers would have been seen on TV on the last O League game. Suffice to say, he is a coach killer with boneheaded challenges like the ones he made in a crucial game

Similar to Hogg then??

But he's young and still has potential to improve. Christie won't be the player he was 2 / 3 years ago. He's barely played a game in that time, and before the injuries he was limited any way.

(however, i will admit i thought he did ok in the pre WC games etc)

You couldn't have Keat, this is not a FIFA window and isn't an A international either, so his club is under no obligation to release him. Same goes for the other guys playing in Scandinavia at the moment.

How close is this to the starting line up? I guess we could see Rowe or Hogg at LM.
                Basalaj
Scott Durante Musa Hogg
Fenton  Lindsay Clapham Howieson
          Butler Boyd

Good squad and i understand why certain players in Europe aren't there as El Grap pointed out etc and the likes of Smeltz. McGlinchey getting a rest - Boxall being tied up with Oakleigh.

Christie. If it wasn't Christie then we would be moaning about Feneridis or McGeorge. Like for like. Give Christie a run. Might of been nice to see Payne in there as im not sure whose gonna be scoring the goals!!! ha

For me...

                    Basalaj

Scott Durante Vicelich Hogg

          Lindsay Christie

Fenton     Clapham       Howieson

                   Boyd

Subs; Spoonley, Rowe, Myers, Musa, Butler

Can anyone tell me definitively - what is Boyd's best position?  He seems very lightweight for a forward

A water-carrier. But it's time he had a chance on a larger stage. Hopefully he'll grab it. If he gets that engine really going it's possible we might see a successor to Tim Brown. Not that you'd agree JV, recalling an earlier dialogue on same topic.

Yes you are right Jerzy.

Watch the O League final. Where ACFC really had Waitakeres number was in the middle of the field. When Waitakere had the ball (and I can vividly recall this on many occasion) ACFC specifically let Butler have it and then shut down all options almost inviting him to create something - creating is not something he is known for so I think that ACFC really did their homework.

If he can't create, and he is not known really as a finesse tackler, other than a few 30 yard screamer (and he has had a few) what else does he offer? He is not known for being strong in the air. I just am not sure what he offers or brings to the team.

As you said, and I kind have to agree a little, lets see what he is made of at the next level. I doubt he will offer much but he does get a chance.

When he was at Waikato, Declan used him as more of a wide man who cut in so I guess there, he played a similar role to Fenton at the Phoenix.
Personally, I don't he has a true position and is a tweener. He has the pace and lythe for a winger but not the footwork (nor a left foot) and freezes in front of goal as a striker and gets knocked off the ball too easily.

He's also 18 so can be forgiven for lacking strength and composure.

Scored a lot of goals up top in pre season and was called a natural finisher by Greenacre whose opinion I value.

I'm hoping for him to break his duck and make a good go of it, he will only get faster, stronger and more composed. I expect him to show a lot more this year (depending on any new strikers signing who may take his spot, thus limiting his opportunities).

Durante, Vicelich and Howieson the only ones from that lot likely to have a chance of taking the field come November me thinks...

Shouldn't Ricki know enough about the players in this squad already to assess if one or two would be good enough as fringe players to bring into the All Whites if needed due to injuries etc.?

Would have liked to see more u-20 players given a go, although Jordan probably asked for a strong as possible senior side to help prepare them for facing the Socceroos soon after...

Very Poor - Poor - Good - Great - Very Great

Lacking strike power and like others I don't care for Christie or Butler but alternatives arent great either

Tyler Boyd should be used on the right wing but there's no out and out striker in the team

Think the best I've seen Tyler play is up front with another striker near him. He can make a lot of runs off the ball and often opens up space and can actually hold the ball relatively well for someone his size, generally by feinting and doing some cuts in and out to bide time rather than using his body.
Think he's not the kinda guy who can lead the line by himself, but can play wide or next to someone else and be dangerous.
Was hard for him to score all last year when he was out so wide - although he missed a few decent chances

Thinking he might develop more out wide though but you're right about his best position long term

I'm not an advocate for developing players in positions which are not seen as their best position long term... rather teach them new roles after they have learnt their major one first.

He's not going to learn how to be a striker playing right wing.

SKY Sport customers are in for a treat with the announcement of 15 LIVE international football matches to be screened over the remainder of the year including both All Whites FIFA World Cup qualifying matches as well as several Football Ferns games.

As part of their build-up to qualifying for Brazil 2014, the All Whites will play international clashes against opponents in Asia and Saudi Arabia, which will fall in the official FIFA window period, as well as games against CONCACAF teams in preparation for the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November.

“This year is a massive year for the All Whites with their qualification to Brazil 2014 and I’m delighted that SKY Sport customers can watch build-up games for qualifying for the World Cup finals as well as the crucial home and away CONCACAF matches,” said Richard Last, SKY’s Director of Sport.

“The Football Ferns also have a packed schedule this year against some of the best teams in the world, including our trans-Tasman neighbours Australia, and I know football fans in this country will be keen to track their progress on the international stage,” added Mr Last.

SKY Sport’s comprehensive LIVE international football coverage includes a match between New Zealand A and Jordan at Auckland’s North Harbour Stadium, seven All Whites matches – including two Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers – and seven Football Ferns games.

The Football Ferns will play two matches against world number-one USA, two matches against Switzerland, two games against Australia and one match against world-number three Japan.

I hope the marketing does not show it as an AWs team because the instant uninformed rugby loving Joe Public see a 'national team' get smashed by Jordan (and I expect nothing less) we will have all the retarded Mahe Drysdales of this world speaking about football and all their ignorance.
