It makes no difference if we are 78 or 49. We are still the same team, no better or worse.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

I think it may make a difference to our players trying to get work permits.

And there are only 4 CONCACAF teams ahead of us.  We should move to that confederation.

We're better than more teams than we're worse than. Stoked!

This calls for a parade!

That's Gold! Sure no top 50 but to move 24 places is fantastic. Brazil 2014 will take us up a few more as well!!

Very nice, we're getting there.  So if we are drawing and losing between the teens and 30s, then where is our regular winning point?  Late 30s early 40s?  That would mean beating Poland.

Interesting to note that if we were in the Asian Fed we would be ranked 4th with the next best being Iran 64, Saudi 68 and Bahrain 69.

As an aside, compare the world rankings of football and rugby.
Only Argentina and England appear in the top 10 of both.
Italy ranks 11 on both.
The 54th rugby nation is Bermuda and the 78th is Peru.
Could Peru hold World Champions South Africa to a draw

A win against somebody half decent in the October window would possibly slip us into top 50

NZ = unbeaten at home since 2002. Bring them on

Yeah, that makes the list hard to take seriously!

Uruguay at number 6, ahead of England, is pretty awesome. And France is at 21!

Why is to so surprising to see the 3-time defending African Champions in the top 10?
Permalink Permalink

yeah, egypt are quality. wonder where they've accumulated the points recently though?

Probably because they haven't played in a World Cup since 1990. They've been really inconsistent, actually if you look at the qualifiers for Africa the teams change a lot every world cup.

FIFA rankings cover a period of the last 5 years, during which Egypt won the ACN 3 times = a lot of points. Combine that with the poor performances of some of the higher ranked teams in the World Cup, and Egypt break into the top 10.

Who are Gabon? What did they do to come in at 35?

I dunno why I bother looking at the FIFA rankings sometimes

We've actually dropped out of the top 10 for the first time in two years now.

Just reaping the benefits of playing in a strongish confederation.

As high as 8 last year. We've only lost 4 games since the World Cup in 2006.

Its a pity that we lost to the Aussies as that would have probably helped us crack the top 50.

Am looking forward to our results from South America a few years back to fall off the FIFA equations.

Africa Cup of Nations every 2 years - getting the win here and there in competitive matches.

Gabon have been going really good for a while. They were top of their World Cup qualifying group for a while but faded disappointingly. Well, I was disappointed.

No change to our ranking today, though Costa Rica almost slipped below us (dropping 4 spots)
Looking forward to the upcoming friendlies and hopefully breaking into the top 50

Incidentally Paraguay move up one so top 15 side now we are hosting, and Honduras dropped a few points stayed 46th, possibly within striking distance come October/November?

I am sure EP said that friendlies don't count.

If results in August and September go your way you could climb to 46th - your best ever ranking.

FIFA Ranking: September 2010 probable ranking.

Friendlies do count.
