Different multiplier for different kinds of matches. I think multiplier for friendlies is 1 and for WC finals matches it is 4 (qualifiers are 2.5?). similarly the multiplier for a win is 3 and for a draw is 1. other variable i can remember is ranking of opponent.
the short of it is that a win in a friendly is worth 3/4 a WC draw. we got good points for the serbia win. a win in either game here would deliver very handy ranking points

No change to our ranking today, though Costa Rica almost slipped below us (dropping 4 spots)Looking forward to the upcoming friendlies and hopefully breaking into the top 50

I am sure EP said that friendlies don't count.

Sorry---- EG

They do, but like Marius said, just not worth as many points as competition games.

Top 50 means a lot to me.   It's no 'just a piece if paper' it really shows how far we have come after all the hard work.

im guessing this is just a mistake but i was looking at the NZ page on the Fifa website and it says that we are playing South Korea on the 17th... Since I haven't heard anything about this i'm guessing its just a mistake. Didn't we have the same thing earlier about us play Honduras a few days after the Mexico game?

Holy crap, the same band of (Nigerian?) shysters who organised the Fake Togo team have now organised a Fake All Whites squad to tour Korea!!! They should have known something was wrong when "Rory Fallon" pulled out his prayer rug and bowed to Mecca.

I say we set our sights higher than Australia, but perhaps not as high as France yet.

Montenegro and Cyprus (mentioned in the stuff article) seem like fair game.

How did we get such a high ranking back in 2002/3? There was no World Cup success back then? was it because we qualified for the Confederations Cup?

We did really well leading up to the 1999 Confeds cup and also the subsequent confeds cup qualification, all those points in the warm up friendlies carried through all the way to 2002. I forget the formula but it was bizarre, your results over a 4 year period counted. Its since been changed.

Does last night's draw with Honduras sqeeze us pass Scotland?
Permalink Permalink

i dont think it will, just thinking logically...

honduras are ranked below us so we really needed to win i would think

a draw or win against paraguay would do us some good though?
Permalink Permalink

it doesnt really work like that. any draw or win is worth points. a win is worth three times a draw. But a draw with Para would not be worth that much more than a draw with Honduras (bc the multiplier is something like 200 minus opposition ranking). but probably need a win in one of these games to mave much upward progress, but our score is also an weighted average over several years as i understand.

Would love to see us play some teams between about 35-45 to really see where we're at.  Like Lithuania, Northern Ireland, or Montenegro.

All of them. Did you not get the memo about the new FIFA rule where if you miss a penalty you drop 50 million places?
Permalink Permalink
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
But that is then overruled by the other new rule which says you regain those 50 million places if you celebrate a goal by removal of the pants.

So if your pants fell down in the process of scoring a penalty?

Probably should be another thread, but what's up with Scotland.  They used to be World Cup regulars and now they've gone off the boil.

Then you end up 50 million places above the entire world.

At least until someone else scores a pantsless penalty.

Obviously.

Down 2 places to 51st in latest rankings, one ahead of South Africa. Above Scotland who drop 10 places to 57th.

Aussies up 3 to 21st

Guinea up 34 places to 47th - who did they beat?

EDIT: Guinea beat Nigeria 1-0...hardly seems enough to lift them 34 places.
