Not surprising considering we've only played 1 game last month, Myanmar, drawing 1-1.

in total free fall now! not [playing any games, not going to get any quality opposition to boost the ratings. Unlikely to win cos were playing the young guys to develop the squad. FFS!

Play them home (Waiouru) & away (Kabul/Khandahar) to settle it.

Can we get a game v Liberia or Cape Verde Islands please as they are moving up.

Mybe not on second thoughts we may get beaten by a top 100 and top 50 team.

How about Benin? Oh no another top 100 team.

Well Faroe Islands moved down ten spots we must be able to beat them. They can't be much kop now can they. With a population almost as many as that stronghold of NZ football of Invercargill.  Must be weak cos they only get about 1,000 spectators to each league game.

Oh, not another top 85 team.

Just when you think these out of the way places are easy pickings.  They [Faroe Is] have a professional league that is televised and play 27 games in a summer season.  Now just imagine that being done in NZ [3 more years] oh well we will by the time the Faroe Is are a top 50 nation.

Get the idea football in NZ is going down the Brendon Rogers

We're the highest ranked, followed by the Samoas. New Caledonia are 180, the rest are all below them, Fiji 190, Tahiti 191, Solomons 199, Tonga 200, Vanuatu 201, PNG 206.

Oceania should definitely get a full qualification spot for the World Cup though...

That's what happens when the confederation's top team plays 4 games a year (mostly against mediocre opposition) and the rest of the confederation plays once every 3/4 years.

Us, NC, Fiji and Tahiti should be all be higher ranked then we are but just don't play unlike your Faroes etc.

Yeah, get your point, but Faroes are a bad example, they would absolutely destroy the rest of Oceania (and we wouldn't be too far off 50/50 in games against them either).

So after we draw 0-0 with Oman who is ranked 102nd, shouldnt we move up a bit?

Also we get punished twice for being in a weak confederation. Once because the points are multiplied by less simply because it's OFC, and then again because the teams we play in competitive games are all ranked outside the top 150 until we reach Confeds Cup or WCQ playoffs.

So if we beat Samoa (164) in a WC qualifier we get less ranking points than Germany would get for beating Liechtenstein (163) in a WC qualifier, simply because OFC games get multiplied by less than UEFA games.

Considering results against the Solomons Islands, New Caledonia and PNG, NZ will have 338 points in the next update, which is the same Oman (100th) currently has, so probably again in the top 100?

I agree, but you have to play the game and teams are reluctant to play us because our rankings mean even if they beat us other teams drop. As we get higher we should be able to get games.

The superior way of ranking national teams is the Elo rankings. Read up on them if you haven't heard of them before, they make much, much more sense.

New Zealand ranked 64th in those which makes a lot more sense. Belgium not ranked #4 in Elo rankings (what they are ranked in FIFA Rankings) because that would be bizarre and FIFA Rankings massively overrate them.

Elo isn't an acronym, its a dude's name. He invented the ranking system that chess uses which has been adapted and applied to other sports.
