Yes, Adam McGeorge! A traitor for abandoning Rotorua for the bright lights of Kings College but still a good bloke. He was saying they're not entirely confident the QF's will go ahead, anyone shed any light on this?

Should of course give NZ Freestyle Football competitor Nick 'The Robsled' Robson a shout out as well.

It's been moved quite a few times already, and I'm pretty sure I read something saying this is the last qualifiers that won't be in New Zealand for a while.  I'll chase that tomorrow.

Are there any overseas based kids who weren't picked, would seem quite worrying that at u20 level we only have two guys playing overseas?

I counted 3 bopman. Keane, Niyonsaba and Wood.

Three for me, and two for them.

Well yeah three but still my point stands

Why wait till tomorrow, DRX?

The Oceania qualifying schedule reads:
U20 boys, Tahiti, December 08, for finals in Egypt, Sep 25 - Oct 16, 2009
U17 boys, Fiji, March 09, for finals in Nigeria, Oct 24 - Nov 15, 2009

After this, all OFC tournaments for the next three years (July 2009 - June 2012) will take place in Auckland, commencing with:
U20 girls, October 09, for finals in Germany, June - July 2010

And before anyone starts whining along the lines of "Why Auckland?", it's the most cost effective location for all the island nations to get to. (And, surely, improves still further NZ's chances of qualifying for the various FIFA Finals).

OFC is rather keen to improve the numbers of teams participating in these qualifying tournaments, so confirming a central location so far ahead means the various nations can't use the uncertainty of the venue as a reason for not going - that has been known to happen, believe me!

Cheers,

JR

Waikato FC beat the U20s 1-0 in Auckand last night, thanks to a late penalty from 17-year-old Marco Rojas. Stu Hogg was the man fouled.

Stu Watane was the man fouled.
Graham Pearce, Stu Hogg, Steven Holloway, Craig Wylie, Joel Mathews, Joe Simpkins rested due to injuries. Sam Margetts away with NZ Secondary schools. Nik Robson part of the U20 squad.

Good start for the boys.  Btw, what happened to the article on it?  Countless random symbols/non-english letters.

New Caledonia giving Fiji a hiding in the early game on day 2, 3-0 up after 35 minutes.

Final Score: Tahiti 2 New Zealand 1

Looks like the dream could be over -- we have to beat New Caledonia and hope Fiji take something off Tahiti

I did wonder if that Tahiti vs New Caledonia draw was a sign that the two former French colonies might be a bit handy.

Disappointing if we don't make it but cool for New Caledonia or Tahiti to.

A joke result for us really.

How many players do we have compared to them. I know they play together, but we have full time paid professionals, players in the nzfc which must be a higher standard etc.

People are arguing e should join Asia for greater competition?? We can't even beat Tahiti!!

Shocking!

Poor result, esp. after SPARC has since come to the party.

Fingers and toes crossed for results to go our way in the last round.

I guess it is good for the OFC.

Does anyone know if the team that does qualify for the u20 world cup...is there any financial benefits for them?

I say tackle him in the face.

Poor result. The red card would have made a big difference... at least Costa got a goal?

Sure does.  OFC winner qualifies automatically  for every World Cup except Mens Senior World Cup

Only if Fiji put one over Tahiti.

Which is as likley as the Foreign office welcoming the Fijian govt for a nice cup of tea.

A draw between Fiji and Tahiti and a win for us would put us through. Not outside the realms of possibility.
