I was very impressed how well he organised the defence.

Especially how he instructed Lochy to hack down the Bahraini player in the box so he could take all the glory by saving the penalty.
Tbh I was more impressed by how he organised the goal just before halftime, made the halftime break alot better.

Sarcasm aside EG, you must admit he is a brilliant organiser and it appears he is not too bad at shotstopping either. Of course I will give you credit where it is due, long ago I remember you said Paston was a good penalty stopper so (Not that I disagreed with you )

Yes, he played very well in both games. Some of the saves he made in the first game were crucial for the overall tie.

Paston has just been on Close Up & Campbell Live at the same time, pre-recorded interview from the ROF  under the post's for Campbell Live - from the time the penalty was kicked till he saved it was a quarter of a second.

All throughout the season I've been saying how Crowthers better and Paston shouldn't be in goal.
What the hell did you base that on???

I've never felt confident when watching Paston. I thought Crowthers initial mistake with the goal kick was horrid but he recovered brilliantly from thatl and with enough game time he'd be able to be a lot better than Paston.

As I said, eating my words judged on Pastons latest performances. He's solidified his place in my heart.

The fact that it seems you believe it is just as funny as the actual comment to be honest. Are you actually serious?

No humble pie needs to be eaten.  He has made a few howlers in his time and deserved criticism just like other players get when they do poorly.

However, he has since improved significantly.  All is forgotten thanks to that penalty save and roughly 8 consecutive strong performances which has seen him soar in my opinion.

To be honest, last year I was fickle on which keeper was better. Whenever each of them got a string of games running together they would grow on me and I would prefer them! Then it would change

This year, ever since the start of the season, I have to say!

PASTON FTW

He has been on an upward trajectory all season and has a quiet confidence about him which is very reassuring.

He also handled the Close Up interview well tonight I thought, and neatly sidestepped an attempt by Hosking to set something up re him vs Moss.

At the beginning of the season I thought that he was noy quite up to it. However in the last 2 months he has got better and better. At the moment he would be my choice over Moss

I don't think the critisism was unwarranted at the time, but what do you mean by ill-informed.

Please stop this, you are deluded if you truly think that 99% of people on here have hated Paston and loved Moss for the last 3 years. GTFOI

at the last home game I said to the 'kids' and folks around i'd be pissed off if I were Paston given the reception Reecy C got

i think having a "mossy" or "reecey' sounding name is bit of an advantage in the crowd song stakes

and being  a bit flashy seems to help too (Crowther certainly has the physique and decent reflexes but he will need time and experience to fufill his potential as a keeper)

the other thing that always intrigues me about keepers and strikers is how one or two spectacular eforts can outshadow someone who is more consistent and contributes more overall (and to be honest, i expect i've been won over by that too over the years)

Pasty works fine, just isn't belted out enough, but rest assured, after saturday he'll be the Phoenix's new star.

Really love the:

He's Big!
He's Wise!
His defence is organised!
Mark Paston!! Mark PAston!!!

During the time when they were both playing for us I believe this to be true (of course 99% is a made up stat). You could easily do a search and find so much hate for Paston for like one mistake. That was AFTER "that" Sydney game, even before you could find alot. If you don't believe me do a search.

Interesting reading some of the comments here....as a Phoneix supporter from Day 1, I always thought how lucky we were to have two very good keepers on the books. For me it was never Moss vs Paston, more like we have that position sorted so there were other areas needing to be given more attention.....think LeiLei G**...or maybe better not think about it

Anyone feel like trawling trough the Fever Forums. Because I vaguely remember someone a loooong time ago sarcastically saying "you wait till Paston makes 10 amazing saves in the WC Qualifiers, then we will be saying Moss Who?" and everyone laughed, myself included. Haha.

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

Let's not forget though that Richard Wilson did all the hard work in 1981-82, only to be overtaken by Frank van Hattum when they got to Spain.

But take nothing away from Mark Paston. He performed magnificently in both legs of the Bahrain tie. Let's hope that coming back to the A-League is not too big a let-down for him and the other 'Nix players.

Yeah but Moss is suspended so unless you think it's going to be big Jimpo or spoonley he's got it sorted

Normo's coming home

I suppose we have to agree to disagree.  Personally I was against the idea of Moss and Paston in the same team.  NZ's two best keepers needed to be getting gametime, not one or the other.  It's good that Moss left (though at the time I probably would have preferred to see Paston go).

For me, though, Mulligan has copped the worst flack by far and way.  He played two or three games for us out of position and some people on here don't want to ever see him in the A-League for the Phoenix again.
