so from a Wellington perspective here - if revenue is a factor in winning the bid - what would be the ticket price that would maximise revenue?

I cant remember what we paid last time.. going to high would eliminate a lot of the bandwaggoner - although a lot of us would pay pretty much anything

As a Dutchman, it would be better if it was free.

$30

$30-$35 wouldn't be too bad. Not sure many would pay $40.

Ideally $25 Adults, $5 kids,

How much were the tickets for the OFC games?

Doesn't our Nix season passes cover this?

I paid $39 for ours.

Not sure we can use the Bahrain game as a model for this game, different day of the week, different lead in, Wellington dying etc.

Apparently football fans are the tight-arses of NZ live sport spectators.

And some saying the tickets should be upwards of $70

they have to be cheap so people will go but not too cheap people will stay at home if we get spanked on the away leg.

I'd pay up to 60. After that I'd simply take my money to the pub and watch it over a few pints.

Agree.

Personally, I would buy a ticket no matter what the price is. I would be a bit miffed if I had to pay anything above $50 though, and I'm sure that there are plenty of people who would be interested in attending but wouldn't pay over $50.

$40 seems like a good compromise.

I'd recommend getting used to the idea that it will be $50+ now so it's not too much of a shock when it's announced.

If it comes to Wellington that will be the trade-off - steep ticket prices.

If it's too expensive, I'd be tempted to wait until after the first leg to see what the situation is.

If it's in the city I'm living in at the time I'll probably go no matter what the outcome of the first leg is. It's the All Whites after all.

But it's not people like me that I'm worried about. The difference between a ticket at $40-50 and a ticket at $70-80 would stop plenty of casual sports fans from going.

Football fans will go no matter what IMO but the casual punter will only go if it's a reasonable price, the AWs have a chance and the weather is looking good.
I would say it's fair enough for out of town fans to wait and see how the first leg goes but that could be risky with bookings etc.

I think I'm with TopLeft on this.

My personal thought would be doing a price scale like they normally do starting with tickets at $40-$50 and top tickets at $70-80, that should keep most happy, and the $40 bottom end ticket should help ensure sell out. And market it really hard as soon as you release the tickets otherwise you will miss fair weather fans if the first leg goes badly.

As for myself, game in Wellington I will be there no matter what (Actually I think my limit is around $80-100), but if it is in Auckland and over $50 then I probably just won't be going.

This is a $50+ ticket by any measure surely - it's the biggest game in 4 years!

Only if you think we have a realistic chance of qualifying. That short turn around may hurt sales a little bit too.

I want a $5 discount on my ticket for having to travel to a rotting carcass to watch the game. Thanks for the heads up John!

I'd agree with this.

Would be too rich for my blood. And I'm sure it would be for a lot of other people.

Is this just for low end tickets or is this like gold seating?

Getting that feeling too. But we are the tight-arses so it's our fault.

They will play in Wellington but try and make the money they would make at Eden through high pricing.

they didn't over price the bahrain game though, so why would you al;l assume they will make it hideously expensive this time?

The person I spoke to made it sound like they are making comparisons with All Blacks matches. Apples with Oranges.

Maybe NZF have said they need to make some money off these games. IIRC last time that was not a priority, they just wanted the stadium full.

Last time it was between North Harbour and Hamilton for the venue. Stadium won out because it was higher capacity if I recall correctly.

Just a little thought here - it's a once in 4 years game with way more riding on it than any other football game you will see in NZ. If international  musicians can sell out consecutive nights at Vector Arena (so around the same amount of people as a soldout RoF) with $100 tickets for 2 hours entertainment, then$60 for the WC qualifier not look so bad. Or are people just not as willing to pay as much for sporting entertainment as they are for musical entertainment? Comparing to Nix games or Super Whatever isn't fair really. How much were standard tickets to the eggball WC final at Eden Park?

That is an absolutely fair comparison surely?  Not everyone who goes to an AB's game is a massive rugby fan, but they are happy to pay the price to watch top sport.  It has to be the same argument here surely?

But for selling's sake they really do need to have some lower priced tickets that they can point to - one price is a bad idea

Demand for an ABs test is massively greater than a All Whites.

Two questions because I am really a lazy prick...

Where is the game

When is the game

Now if NZ hasnt made the decision and I havent scrolled through the website sorry, you can give me a serve :)
