i think some of the kiwi journos in SA spent to much time in the bars with their English counterparts. conversations along the lines of
"kiwi- What do you guys do if its a slow news day?
pom- we just make up a transfer rumor.
kiwi - how do you get away with it?
Pom - all you have do do is insert the words "sources claim" or "it has been speculated" and you can pretty much make up the rest, sells a tonne of copy and its not like you have to work for a living being a football journo.
kiwi - Brilliant, that will get me a few more articles printed a week back home, next rounds on me!

i actually think the kind of rumours circulating on our mainstream media websites wouldnt make it past the football specific websites in the UK. They have almost all been unsubstantiated hearsay (not to say they arent possible).

Ozil > Bertos. Seriously, would Bertos even be a first team player?

Almost certainly not.  Stop doing those embarrassing step overs, though, and he may be a shoe in.

The vast majority of these rumours are simply ludicrous.

Paston to EPL - give me a break!

Bertos to Bundesliga!? - Stop it, I can't take any more!

Franke I honestly reckon 4/10 are a bloody good chance of happening:

1) Nelsen to bigger club (Spuds?? Boooooo..)
2) Herbert to overseas (already had an offer in Asia before WC. England or Scotland now awaits)
3) Smeltz to Championship club (will not be in A-League at the end of 2011)
4) Reid to a top European league (cos he's a frikken superstar)

Fulham need a manager...

The above are the only ones I believe to be honest.

from the Ipswich Town message service:

Blackburn Eyeing Smith
Fri 02nd Jul 2010 09:48

<!-- Article Start -->Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce is understood to have monitored Town defender Tommy Smiths progress during the World Cup with New Zealand. Smith played alongside Rovers centre-half Ryan Nelsen in South Africa as the All Whites achieved three draws, including a famous 1-1 with Italy.

Earlier in the week, boss Roy Keane said he expects Smith to challenge for a regular first team place this season.

<!-- Adconion Revshare MPUstory -->

The former Stevenage Borough and Brentford loanee is contracted to the Blues until June 2012.

Meanwhile, David Sheepshanks is reported to have told colleagues that yesterdays comments regarding Fabio Capello, ought not to be taken as him backing the underfire England boss.

Sheepshanks is said to want a detailed review of Englands disastrous World Cup campaign before any decision is made on Capellos future.

i just threw in the bit about the 'disastrous' england campaign cos i like it.  but anyways, what with reid to blackburn being a rumour, does big sam want the entire nz backline as his backline?????

Having players at the same European club will make it harder for us to get them released when we would like them.

So Blackburn are apparently eyeing up both Reid and Smith to go alongside Nelsen? That would be incredible! Unlikely though.

I agree more than one player at a club makes it more unlikely they'll be released for New Zealand.

Don't know why he would want to play for Grimsby. They are in Conference league. The   A league is better than that.

Well, don't worry mate, I'm pretty sure your favourite left back will playing in yellow and black again this season.

PS Thought he did very well at the WC.

Not very well, but I have seen him play worse.
Him and all the boys should be very proud.

I was actually quite happy with Lochhead, but didn't think he played well enough to get an overseas contract!

Reid's chances of going to Arsenal have taken a hit - they've just signed Laurent Kocielny from L'Orient.

Having said that, the article also mentions that Campbell is still considering his future, Senderos is gone, and Gallas & Silvestre are possibly on their way out. So there might be room for Reid, despite him not being French or 12 years old

And if they play poorly in the first half of the season, Big Sam gets the boot and Ricki comes in as manager.

Would keep the Aussies happy - no more 442 conspiracies about the Nix being the All Whites in disguise.
