Bugger, I didn't think for a minute that bar would be open for it! Would've come down otherwise.

coolahbar in osaka was great there was 6 of us, but the atmosphere was great, never lost faith, and when that goal went in.... running through osaka with all whites chants and nz flags was great. (lots of japanese started cheering with us, although they were shocked at how much we were into the game tho lol)

Calling all fans in Japan, come down and support the mighty nix in Osaka

What was the deal with that guy at Foxs? Was in the back room near the pool tables watchin the big screen in there so all I saw was some clown hamming it up and flipping the bird and looking like a total twat.
Great atmosphere though and when that goal went in it went off. Took me like 3 minutes to work out who had actually scored!

Earlier I'd seen some of their mates popping a bottle open on the wall they'd smuggled in, then starting up some awkward chants of their own. I just thought they were thugs joining in for the ride and attention.

But that guy I think pushed my mate (tall skinny dude with the shaggy black beard who kept shouting Otaaagooo) and got all roudy. We started the w*nker chant which worked him up and flipped the double birdie, and then tried to taunt us into a scuffle. By then we'd turned back to the football.
He did walk back and forth through us a few times sheepishly looking for some reaction.

total t*sser if you ask me. hope he won't be there on Monday.

Amazing atmosphere, still in awe of the night. Saw me mate on the camera at the game too so was a nice bonus.

My leave is booked. I'll be down early at Foxs to catch the Slovakia/Paraguay game. Should be a good warm up for the AW game.

Diamond Bar at Christchurch Casino is open 24 hours a day and is screening all 64 games-
so would be a good venue for watching even the more obscure games at 2am-
as well as the AWs games.
If you were really keen and don't have Sky for example, you could live there during the tournie as they serve food, including breakfast for 6.30 am games...
They are also giving out signed AWs gear as prizes on AWs match days.
Mates of mine who don't have Sky have hung out there before to watch other sports events such as boxing.

Bit of a strange crowd in Kings downstairs - lots of students, looking too well dressed for a football match downing jugs of speights, and looking at us funny when we tried to get some chants going.

Fair dos for them coming out and watching the game though

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

The chants work? I can remember they were going alright at the away game v sydney wont call it a success but decent enough. Plan is to get to kings for the italia game and I do expect chanting!

Do you think there will be as many people as there was for the last game?

Apparently they turned 500 people away at the door. Plus, university exams are drawing to an end for most. Might get a few people coming down because of what they saw on the news.

Could get a few Italian fans there too? So by my scientific calculations, I reckon it'll be a full house once again.

Don't know if I will go back to foxes again. they might of had heaps of people but they can't chant and they say the same chants over and over. and who ever brought the horn just f**k off. no offense but half the people there were just people jumping on the all whites bandwagon and knew sh*t all about them or the world cup.

Sorry you can see im pissed off

Damn bandwagoners. Why cant we go back to when only 100 people liked football, and chants were perfectly coordinated. Tegal2010-06-21 06:17:25

Id rather be in a bar with that many people who knew what to do and was passionate about it. About 20 mins after the game all the bandwagoners had gone

I thought about going to Fox & Ferrit, sounds like a good thing I didn't. Will definitely be heading out for the Paraguay game though as I have friday off. We need to get a big group together who know what they're doing to start the chants and meet up before hand IMO.

Peter: Are you talking about the p*ssed-up 18 year olds in the back room chanting "F**k Off Italy"? They were annoying but then noone was making any noise elsewhere. Atmosphere not as good as the Slovakia game, sadly

Yeah I am talking about them. I think that is why no one else was starting up chants because they were just ruining it.

And i don't really agree with booing them when there national anthem is being played

well I popped my Kings cherry and have to say it was fun tho holy crap by the end of the match I felt like had broken all the bones in my back frm the inside out just frm being so tense the entire match. It defanitly seemed a younger crowd & was quite multiracial. I'll be heading back on Thur night but realise I have no idea of who 99% of you are lol so if anyone sees me (chick dressed most likely in back as dont own white clothes; with red hair stripes and a big butt) come say hello  stealthkiwi2010-06-21 13:59:33

Yea was disappointed last night. Far too many kids just there for a night out on the piss really. Saw it coming before the game when there were chicks walking in dressed as if they're going clubbing.

Don't think I'll be going back to Fox's on thurs night. Where are you guys going instead? I heard the paddington was good with good amotosphere and decent crowd (wasn't overcrowded apparently).

Hmm sounds like Foxs wasnt as good this time round, I watched on the sofa last night but was there for the Slovak game. Being viaduct though always going to get those hangers-on that are just there to get pissed up.

Paddington sounds good to me, they've been pushing the ads on Radio Sport a lot lately. Anyone been in to Bar Fifa to watch?

tried to go there for the Slovakia game but they were useless and didnt have a license to stay open. Went to the Dominion just up the road instead which was way better. Outdoor area with a flat screen and gas heater thingy

I would be keen for that. Anyone who went there? How many people did they get. I would like a decent crowd. Just minus the people who are just there for a party and to look cool.

I also saw the girls that looked like they were going clubbing at foxes. Even if they were good looking I was still disgusted with them haha.

After staying at foxes for a while it was great to see the Brazilian supporters. They are truly passionate and they know how to party

thats just silly. embrace the fact females are happy to be up at 3am for football. don't care about what they wear lol. and for the record I don't wear sporting attire to the pub... I don't even own jeans and the only sport related thing i have is a phoenix t-shirt & a scarf. I'm not dressing down to fit in. I'm wearing what I always wear which is usually kind of upmarket goth & I'm going for the love of the game - thats all that counts

Thats the problem though, they weren't there to watch footy really. They were just there for a night out. Thats not to say they were all like that because I was standing next to a couple of young girls who were fully into it.

You're right I guess in saying that at least there are girls showing some interest in football. All we're saying is that we would rather watch these tense big games with more hardcore football fans like there was at fox's for the slovakia game instead of a crowd of kids just getting hammered and singing stupid and embarassing chants like "fu** you italy, fu** you"

By the way. NZ vs Paruguay will be on at the same time as Italy vs Slovakia.

Does anyone have any idea how the bars might show them from past experience? ie will the big screens be showing the NZ game and couple of the tv's have the italy slovakia game.

Why would I want to embrace them? New Zealand at the world cup is far more important then females just happy to be there.

I was also by a few hardcore girls that were fully into it and that was awesome

I was thinking about it this morning, that's the way I'd assume they'll do it. Either that or I'll be texting someone who's watching at home every 5 minutes.

Four Kings! Over 70 screens, but I am guessing you are down south? What would be ideal for entertainment purposes is if we are drawing with 10 to go and Slovakia are up by a goal or even scores level. You would be just as engaged in watching the other screen.Manbeast2010-06-22 19:41:36
