Yeah,

Surely these seats would not be any closer than other football venues around the world.

Seems too close to pitch for FIFA's comfort .. and please keep all beach balls at home!

Hard luck for everyone who didn't get a tciekt, but i mean when you get told by FIFA that is it.

As Ricki said in the Dom Post, they should get a big screen somewhere, make a big party atmosphere. Courtney place, or Queens Wharf i think.

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

The issue isnt closeness but security in place to stop people entering the pitch. eg the 3 metre hgh railng and stairs for the front row seats.
Oh Wellington is wonderful. We got the wind, the rain and the phoenix. Oh Wellington is wonderful.

I've never been to Westpac but is there anyway you could put a massive screen outside the ground? Like @ Wimbledon where thousands of people sit on the hills.

Just a thought.

ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

You know what I think has gone on? The NZRU rung up FIFA and said look, Rugby is f**ked if they add an extra three thousand seats to the ROF for the qualifier, you can't let this happen. Then the NZRU with all their commercial weight bribed FIFA so they would say no. And they did. So now the NZRU has the media and FIFA in its pocket, who is next?

Oh and SB you could probably put something up on the Concourse but I imagine there would be OSH hazards with that, best bet is Frank Kitts or Waitangi Park. Would imagine it is to close to game day to be able to shut off one end of Courtenay, though local government may pleasantly surprise me and get it done.

You only know this because you made the call...

I suspect the concourse couldn't take a big screen truck (they're a bit dodgy on the sub being on there) and it's awfully exposed.

Queens Wharf - piggy back festival of football
Civic Square
Waitangi
Frank Kitts
Four Kings

All viable options.

FIFA regulations (Stadiums clause 4.1) would not seem to be broken by the temporary seats, as long as the 10m distance is observed. I'm confused about what the problem can be.

Selected excerpts below:

Ideally, the playing area of a stadium should be free of any barriers between spectators and the playing field. FIFA has decreed that its final competitions will only be played in fence-free stadiums. However, it is essential that players are protected against intrusion by spectators. This could be accomplished in a number of ways, including one or more of the following:

- Security Personnel
- Adapted Seating (e.g. height above playing area)
- Moats (note must not contain water!)
- Screens and Fences (see below)

"It must be repeated that FIFA is opposed to insurmountable fences and screens and rejects their deployment as a playing field protection strategy. Those who insist upon their use must be quite clear that in doing so they take upon themselves the responsibility of ensuring that they do not, under any circumstances, represent a danger to those using the stadium concerned."

Yeah bugger that. It would be freezing on the concourse at 8 at night. especially if there was event a hint of wind.

I think outside TSB would be the best bet. I don't think the council would be that keen to shut down Courtney place. Or yeah outside four kings on th street could work. Again could be a little dangerous

Either this is a joke or you must have the biggest tinfoil hat out there. The NZRU are not the Bavarian Illuminati, they can't bribe FIFA, that would be like the Wellington City Council trying to bribe New York.Doloras2009-10-21 12:38:13

The NZRFU  havent  the power to bribe FIFA or any other major international sporting body from Volleyball to Basketball etc etc etc.

But they have seem to got to our media, if I hear Matt Freakin Gunn gush over sky one more time over their decision  to broadcast 24 school boy rugby games, Im going to puke, hes been way over the top on night sport.

Also why the heck is TVNZ devtoing all thier time to who is in the all black squad for the end of their tour???

Surly you cant tell me, that the media and the NZRFU arent trying to kill hype for the All Whites.

Just wait and see, im sure a week before the match, they will bring out ther usual stories about Lomu to try and take away attention.

I'm in two minds about this. 1. People's own fault for not getting in quick enough where there was something like a month between tickets going on sale and starting to sell like mad. 2. It is f**ken annoying, even for me with good tickets, that $39 tickets are being sold at nearly $300 a pair, and that price will only go up.

Meh, I think the school boy rugby broadcasts is a great idea.  Will be cheap as they won't need many cameras gets community support and brings excitement to the local communities.

As I've said before, rugby's market share dominance  is threatened by other sports such as football and league. This is business, and it would be naive to think that the RFU doesn't have its marketing people out there trying to drum up hype to counter the upcoming All Whites game. The trouble is they have a sh*t product ,  inept administrators, and absolutely zero personalities in the game. BlattersBalls2009-10-21 15:48:22

How many times are you going to bring up this baseless argument?  It's just utter crap.

The media is trying to kill hype for the All Whites?  Examples please.  And if you can provide any, I'll provide 10 to show the media's positive coverage of this game.

In fact, how did you think the stadium sold out?

I think the issue is with the word media. The print media did an okay job of the build up to the Manama game, but you would be hard pressed to find 10 examples of positive TV coverage prior to the first leg- it was practically non-existent. I am expecting daily updates Mon-Sat for the week prior to the Welly game, anything less will be an insult and only add credence to some people's suspicions in this forum.

On the Saturday i'd expect both networks to be doing the news from Wellington. Its a big shame more tickets are not happening now, having 40000 at the stadium would have been awesome.

Fair enough. The media will have no choice come that week in Nov anyway- the game is just too huge and so is the interest.
