Maybe a chat to drown out the drums is needed, something easy like an annoying sound clark007e2009-11-14 12:45:06

With a bit of luck we might just pull it off."

Called the stadium, lady said that yes the Bahrainians are allowed to bring in instruments.  I said but it's in the rules that patrons can't bring them in.  She then put me on hold (very grumpily) and another dude came on and said NZF had said it was ok for the stadium to allow the instruments as it's their event blah blah blah. They can bring in little drums (that must fit under their seat).    But he also said during the game if enough people complained about the noise they would be told not to play them.    He also said we could bring in drums if we wanted.

I still think it blows!  <<

It might only make a small difference but what the f**k is NZF doing??

Idioitic!, Naive!

If we go out we could never prove that it was this particular lack of nous that screwed us but I do wonder what they were thinking !

>>

I say complain now! I really don't want to miss the match complaining about their drummers f**king up our home match!

>> He also said we could bring in drums if we wanted.<<  what  a recipe for chaos - "you don't know what you're doing"

we don't want a drumming comp against their paid drummers   they had that advantage over there

we want to sing them into despair -  and NZF has decreased our chance so doing so

corner last minute they hear their heart-warming HOME drum sound and get a lift

small things make a difference - but clearly not to NZF

This is pretty average

Excuse my naivity, but come someone clarify for me: Are instruments of any kind usually banned from the stadium?

yep instruments and megaphones. THey have confiscated many a megaphone

I dont know that the drums will have all that much of an effect on the players .. but I sure don't wanting to be sitting next to one (highly irritating).   Does anyone know where the Bahraini supporters zone is ...

they certainly made The warriors play bad. Any air horn or drum going off in my ear/air space will be rectally inserted in the blower or banger. Voices only tonight!!

at the away end ( i.e. the North end goal) i'd expect,

unless of course NZF have requested they be given seats on half way  and acess to the sound system to amplify their drums (which really might make rather nice souvenirs for us, when we win)

wherever they are - hopefully it will feel fairly close to hell for them

Thx ... hopefully nowhere near us then but if I do end up sitting next to one, I wont hesitate to make a formal complaint to onsite security straight away. So there Bahrain!

I hope you were at the game to see how silly this comment sounds now. I think I heard one drummer a couple of times during the match. I also heard MANY MORE than 800 White Noise people - maybe 5,000 All Whites supporters - singing and yelling their hearts out.

I think the one drummer for the all Whites really helped. Kept sh*t in time.

Loved the last 10 minutes where there wasn't chanting, just constant noise.

That drummer was integral to our noise, when he stopped, everything seemed much quieter!

Was standing a few seats away from me so it really made a difference from where I was!

Strangely enough when I watched the replay at midnite plus you could hear a horn and some drums from Bahrain section..must have had a mike directly over cos I heard diddly squat from their supporters all nite in aisle 8..just drowned out completely

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

Heard them drumming and tooting a couple of times, espec on the TV coverage later on, but we blew the roof off. The mass roars at the goal, the penalty save and at the final whistle - my god!

I was pretty proud of that NZ crowd - have you ever seen or heard anything like that ever in NZ? Not me. I'd have to say we were heaps louder and better than I expected, so the drums were pretty much non-issues. I like drums as a rule but last nights drown-out result was just fantastic. I can barely talk... We rose the the challenge for sure. Heard our guy on drum keeping time - that worked well for spreading the chants wider and faster. Bloody top effort all round.

Was disappointed at tha anthem..not even anthem(s) for us.  is it FIFA policy to just have them recording played and one version only>..I launched into the Maori version and had to change after the first sentence or 2!

Can't be bothered going back to find it, but i picked it like a dirty nose - half the crowd singing english, half the crowd singing maori, no one having a clue what was going on!  Have to say though, I thought it was great that most of the people round me (22-L) belted out the full maori national anthem.

I stand humbly chastised, by a crowd that outperformed!

I thought the drums would have been a lot loder than they were (if you've heard the brazilian style drum team at the sevens, or the phoenix pre-season final you'll know the ones I had in mind).  For the record, twice during the match they were making more noise than the rest of us, but it didn't last long.

Two comments:

1. Thought WN got a bit carried away and were still singing over the start of the Bahrain Nat Anth. (other than that blimmin brill)

2. The noise (when we scored) could be heard over in Tinakori Rd (opp the Shepherd's Arms). that = a sh!t load of decibels.

Oh yes and another thing:

3. Took the trouble to learn the NAt Anth Te Reo version so belted it out suspecting it would be the only verse played. It is a lot easier to sing with passion than the Engris version I feel.

I personally couldnt hear the Bahrain national anthem had started, and id imagine this was the same with a lot of people whether in WNZ or out of it,once people realised the chanting seemed to stop.

I always wonder why audiences are crap compared to europe, now i know why.

even with rugby, silent fans. :( even the drunk ones

Agreed Tegal, I stopped once they had lined up, but I think a lot of people didn't know it had started as you couldn't hear it over the noise - once people clicked it seemed to quiet down.

From what i gather...they wondered why (in other sports) audiences were crap compared to eurpoe. Now after seeing a football atmosphere, they can see why europe atmospheres are so much better, because theyre based on a football atmosphere, rather than a silent rugby one.

Could be a complete misinterpretation of course?

Football in NZ atmospheres are hopeless, Last night was an exception with the majority of the 35,000 people couldn't even name 5 players in the all whites without looking at the magazine.

if they really did support the all whites, they'd be there for each and every game, in one way or another.

Look, 60,000+ fans fill out bara games when just versing teams that they are expected to vs.
You want an atmosphere, go to the Boleyn ground, and watch west ham vs millwall!

Good job though, last night, but we need this constantly. not the one off when they make it to possibly the most important game of there life.
